it's good to have you back on this show i want to show our viewers the text from germany's new. guidelines on 5 g. because this is the part that's really raising some eyebrows and see if we can pull that up and show our viewers it reads to provide assurance of the trustworthiness of the supplier the commission company shall obtain a comprehensive declaration from them the declaration must relate to all components and where appropriate functionalities relevant to security as well as providing complete information on the supplier now that's a lot of contract language for saying basically you have to certify that your trust worthy is that good enough when we're talking about something it's important as 5 g. networks for a company or a country it's certainly not good enough this is critical infrastructure it has grave national security and technological solvent implications and now what the german government in this draft guidelines has agreed on is that huawei just needs

to self declare that it's trustworthy and then it gets allowed to provide up to 2 thirds of the german 55 g. network that's not at all taking these security concerns seriously that are not just raised by the u.s. and australia by the way the german intelligence services see it that way the german interior ministry sees it that way the german foreign office has grave concerns about this their big industrial policy considerations because the european suppliers that have excellent technology. ericsson and not nokia find themselves in an unfair competition with huawei and need to be supported but chancellor merkel out of fear of retribution would get us a little side of it that she wants to allow huawei in although she i think understands the security risks that are associated with if there were a different relationship to the united states right now if there were

a different president do you think that miracle's decision would be different no i don't think it would be different because. what she's afraid of retaliation retribution by the chinese government german government against german companies and our companies is immense and they're in to the china business diverted pendent up to 3040 percent of their revenue is dependent on the market in china and i think anglo american has decided that maybe compounded by trump and the volatility isn't injected it is certainly a factor but i do think it's just the fear of retribution that's informing her but we're talking about the profit sources for companies for german companies that profits which is outside the country in china but 5 g. that we're talking about security inside the country i mean those are 2 they're not
