violence flares in barcelona the capital of spain's catalonia region is gripped by 5th day of the rest after authorities jailed separatist leaders. and kurdish led forces say turkey is a violating the cease fire in northern syria ankara and says the violence is just skirmishes but turkey's president says he will restart his military offensive unless kurdish militias leave the border area. i'm married to evanston welcome to the program the british parliament has been debating a new bragg's the deal and is due to vote on it later in the day prime minister boris johnson has been trying to garner enough votes to pass it speaking to parliament. johnson called for the u.k.
12:02 pm
say heal the divisions breaks it has caused and to move on from the issue altogether the prime minister said the new agreement solves customs issues having to do with northern ireland and a little out of the u.k. to strike new trade deals across the world but opposition labor party leader jeremy corbin slammed the deal saying it in danger is british jobs and workers' rights. boris johnson of course is urging lawmakers to embrace this deal let's have a listen people simply will move on the stump how politicians can say with one breath. they want. to avoid and no deal. i did with the next breath that they still want to delay with a great deal is there a. very strong. dollar is the charge mr speaker to get these 3 dogs. all right to talk about today's developments in the braze itzhak
12:03 pm
i'm joined here in the studio by delhi is a brace of analyst rob much hello to you much from robert and standing by in london is the w. correspondent beer gets moscow hello to you both there gets i think to start with you so some very passionate words from boris johnson addressing parliamentarians earlier today will he get what he wants. well on one hand i think there is a set momentum behind bars johnson and his push to get the deal through we know that a lot of m.p.'s in his own party that have previously voted down the deals that were put in front of them by 2 reason made that they are intending to vote with the prime minister however we don't want to make it too easy for you because there is another attempt an amendment and that has crossed party support that speaking table today and that a man and also looks like to go through and it will be before the actual vote on
12:04 pm
the deal and if this amendment goes through it would in effect require the prime minister to ask for another extension because m.p.'s that are behind it and it seems to have a majority they want to prevent any accidental no deal they want to see all the legislation basically put in front of them voted upon before they give their final confirmation on this deal so that would mean a delay now the government has said that if that amendment is voted on that they that they will actually that they will take back their conservative m.p.'s and will not have to vote for it say it's another interesting and unexpected tag on and it would mean that the government would in this case case actually lose the vote and would probably then try to bring it before parliament to cancel it might not be the end of the whole bridge that saga today as we'd all expected well get what was not a surprising was that the opposition leader and jeremy corbyn of labor was very
12:05 pm
critical of johnson's deal let's have a listen to his response to the prime minister put government is claiming that if we support their deal it will get done and that backing them today is the only way to stop you know deal or simply say. supporting the government is afternoon would really if. fargo's starting pistol in a rice a race to the bottom in regulations and standards all right some angry words from the labor leader jeremy corbyn romp so if so john does manage to get enough votes to back his deal will this mean that brags it will be done by the end of the month as he's promised still don't see that happening because there's so many permutations and this book it was saying i mean the numbers themselves doesn't add up right now like it's going to be very close but at the end of the day. it's going to drag on and especially as we've just heard in the number 10 souls saying that
12:06 pm
for this words if the amendment passes and goes through he will send his employees . which effectively means it could drag on and realistically i don't see it then happening by the 31st of october deadline so again everything is up in the yeah as usual well very good this deal is different from the one that johnson's predecessor theresa may put forward why are so many m.p.'s opposed to it. there are opposed to it for many reasons the northern irish party do you sees northern ireland being treated differently and this sort of deal this is why they have said they will not back its labor m.p.'s are against it because they fear as jeremy corbin has put it a race to the bottom they fear that in future the british government undergoes jonson could undermine the e.u. could lower regulations for example on workers' rights but it has to be said with
12:07 pm
all this twist and dad it's important to stress that even if this deal doesn't get through today as rob has just explained i think still boris johnson could actually look really well at the end of sedate in the eyes of many voters and this is what he really cares about so he's styling himself as somebody who really wants to push breaks through who's done everything he's got the deal from brussels and yet parliament here is trying to do everything this is how how to break citizen help us johnson i presume will frame it in order to prevent brett said so in the eyes of a lot of voters who really don't want anything to do anymore with bricks and they want to get it done he will actually look very good and the most likely outcome out of the chaotic day like this will be another election and this is what was johnson really cares about he really wants to win the next election he doesn't have a majority at the moment in the house of parliament and this is what he wants
12:08 pm
achieve now is quite unusual for parliament to be meeting on a saturday what's so significant about that and sitting today well it's the 1st time since the falklands war so the 1st time in 37 years which just goes to show how the occasion is. could be a damper on it if we don't actually get votes but it just goes to show how important it is to trying finally get this then start healing the rifts in the divisions within. i think that's why the emphasis is there for them to actually try and comes an agreement but that's why it's been done 6 percent today. it may not be so super off the roll all right we'll find out soon enough rob here in the studio with me and very good reporting for us from london thank you so much to both of you. let's get
