what is happening right now where you are. and you know it's been another extremely violent evening this evening police and protesters for hours were really playing a cats and mouse game in this area that we're in at the moment protesters would gather police then would move in with water cannon tear gas the protesters would be dispersed and then they'd quickly congregate again somewhere else this evening though we did see what appeared to be the final move by police we saw masses of police officers running towards the protesters that were gathered just near here sending those protesters scattering it looked like a couple of those protesters were detained though it's difficult to confirm that at the moment but it really has been striking today just how much tear gas and water cannon have been used by police officers of course the protesters as well have been taking part in some of the violence we've seen protests throwing molotov cocktails with the police
9:03 pm
a number of them have been vandalizing buildings that have links to mainland china but there has been an immense amount of tear gas and water cannon on the streets today clearing the protest is in fact a mosque was targeted by that was kind of it was hit by blue dye which is so often seen in the water cannon that's being used by police at the moment police have issued a statement saying it was unintended that the mosque was hit but i really is something that has upset a lot of people here today ok so clearly a very tense atmosphere charlotte as you were saying the police seem particularly jumpy they're clearly responding responding with force one of your own experience has been one of what have you been seeing. well tensions have been building off by over the last 20 weekends now that we've seen these protesters police and protesters ally you can really feel the tension building we have an experience here on this evening as we are trying to leave the

area off the police that performed that clearance operation my producer and i was separated briefly when i was a few paces behind them we tried to follow them go down the same side street police stopped me saying i had to go back the other way my producer came forward and said that we were together and could i follow her and then a police officer started shouting in our face he pushed and then we were all shoved multiple times away from the scene we were trying to to leave as it happened but that didn't stop them pushing in some people who were around and saying where can we go because we have police officers on either side that is just an example of some of the situations that can arise here local media have been reporting situations like this repeatedly for the last few weeks but when you walk or talk in the middle of these clashes when you are caught in these very tense situations that go on for hours now is often these kind of situations have been starting to occur.

child a child some pill in a very tense hong kong thanks so much. let's take a look at some level stories making news around the world now 11 on tens of thousands of people have again taken to the streets it's the 4th day of protests since the government proposed new taxes that part of austerity measures aimed at combating a growing economic crisis the protesters blame the political elite for the poor state of the economy. 3 people have died during protests in chile against public transport fare hikes president sebastian pinera announced the price increases would be suspended following days of violent protests the unrest has been chile's worst in decades. now bolivians although saying in elections today deciding whether to give left wing president evo morales a 4th for all those faces a tough race opinion polls suggest he may not win an outright victory that would try to trigger

candidacy is controversial. as the constitution bans him from running for a 4th time. for it now for this incest the perception is that the president has deliberately ignored the rule so. many bolivians worried that morales believe nor the results in future to. proceed in that that may be a letter that the president is also facing criticism for the fires that ravished bolivia's rain forest this year the backlash could cost him the election. the european union is reportedly set to grant the u.k. a 3 month bret's it extension if prime minister barak's johnson cannot get the deal he struck with brussels past m.p.'s in the coming week u.k. lawmakers voted on saturday to postpone ratifying the proposed tax that deal struck between boris johnson and the e.u.
9:08 pm
johnson has told brussels he doesn't want to delay and that he's determined that will happen by october 31st. that we have reached the best possible a tale of 2 letters after a day of parliamentary wrangling boris johnson was forced to write to the e.u. requesting yet another brags that delay he had earlier said he would rather be dead in a ditch than request another extension to show is on happiness he did not sign the letter to his fellow brigadiers that was making the best of a bad business letter was sent because paul meant required to be sent paula consist of the letter was sent a poem and can't change the prime minister's mind as if to prove that point johnson then sent another letter more true to his heart arguing against any delay and this time he signed it so with less than 2 weeks until oct 31st what will happen next. some are bracing for more legal and parliamentary maneuvers that could bog down any

progress meanwhile the idea of having another referendum on leaving the e.u. seems to be gaining ground hundreds of thousands of protesters massed in london while parliament was in session calling for britain to remain in the e.u. . we've got to take the time out of this we've got to get back to people we've got to do a lot more thinking it's not all right just to say well it's been 3 years now well that's involved with that no will i think i'm a bit confused about what happens next i'm not quite sure why there's a delay i think if people who are honest they want to delay so they can have a referendum after years of wrangling over brags that many britons and people in the rest of the e.u. are exhausted by all the drama but the latest away means the play will run a little longer. correspondent bob a visa sent us this analysis from london. how often have we said that the coming week may be decisive for pricks it this time it could really be the case in spite

of the extension which boris johnson had to ask for in brussels over the weekend something he did was ill grace and that face. a scottish court will decide on monday whether the prime minister is therefore in contempt of parliament and off the law the leader of the conservatives in the house of commons has meanwhile tables a fresh attempt to have a meaningful vote on the bricks to deal with the e.u. for this monday senior tories like my could go from dominic wrap it declared on sunday they were confident of the numbers to push it through and therefore to be able to leave the e.u. on october 31st as planned but the speaker of the house might yet prevent this no voting on the same bill till the outcome fits the government he had already told to reason may last winter. worse johnson therefore may be stuck in his 2nd to attempt to pass the deal. should that be the case the big showdown will be pushed

back to tuesday when the e.u. withdrawal bill comes up the domestic law implementing breaks it then a flurry of amendments is to be expected in order to further shape the exit from the e.u. and for a final decision on a 2nd referendum. now the australian airline quantas has completed the longest ever nonstop commercial passenger flight after 19 hours and 16 minutes a boeing 787 dreamliner landed in sydney australia as part of a test to assess how ultra long haul flights affect passenger jet lag and crew city to give the plane sufficient fuel range the aircraft has taken off in new york with a full tank a restricted baggage load and just 49 people on board. and joins me now with more on this record breaking flight call this was more than just
9:12 pm
a very long plane ride wasn't it this was a was a bit like a tree in the sky yeah it was kind of flying. science experiment to me in the flight had a few goals one of them of course being publicity but another was really to take a look at the effect on human beings i mean flying for this long is not easy on the human body so how does it affect you as affect your body going through all these different time zones there are actually scientists on board the plane and they were calling this project sunrise they wanted to see what would happen and here's what the people on board were doing i mean the aim was to look at jetlag and how things like temperature lighting food or exercise affected you can see exercise of people were stretching doing yoga or even dance the mocker rain apparently it went further than that you can see here these are urine samples that were collected by the from the crew and the meals were specially designed as well apparently spicy food might help you stay awake during a long flight passengers though were encouraged not to drink any alcohol i'm not
9:13 pm
sure about that one but the food does look delicious up to say so they're also tests performed on the pilots for pilots and all they wore special headbands to monitor their brainwaves are also cameras to make sure that basically no one fell asleep to hit home flight. slate 90 now is 16 minutes nonstop it's a new record put into perspective for us it's definitely a new record this is the longest nonstop commercial flight that that's ever been done but it actually isn't that much longer than some flights you can buy a ticket for right now and take off from the airport take a look here are some of the longest flight say you are already in operation so singapore airlines will go from singapore to new york city nonstop about 18 and a half hours not that far behind really you see a few of the other ones here emirates for example will go between dubai and auckland in about 17 hours and 20 minutes i mean the point here is this better planes better technology are helping airlines to go even farther nonstop better
9:14 pm
aerodynamics better efficiency mean the key is fuel i mean that's what's limits seeing these planes and. why we heard less than 50 passengers could be on a plane just because of the sheer weight it uses more fuel in fact the earliest that quantas says this new flights could maybe go full capacity would be there 2022 say obviously it's fantastic technology it was but of course people have to be willing to do it oh well i was born in australia i've lived that several years i've done those long haul flights and want to do that for $19.00 oh this is this is like i know you'll from california you've done it as well do we do we want to be stuck in an airplane for that long i mean it's a long way home for us right and often that means 12 sometimes 3 stops those stops and other airports aren't too much fun either you're going through security again you're rushing to your next gate so it's tempting right to just say let's just go nonstop all the way but the question is i mean what kind of 19 hour flight is this is it with what steak dinners or you getting a microwave meal you next to
9:15 pm
a crying baby in the middle seat so that's really the question for me it's tempting though it's time to tell no one thanks so much you what news up next a d w docs film about a star a stony and conduct but for now thanks so much for watching he doesn't he needs. to. be adventurous and bring his naturalistic and explore. to sin the bridge links on the front boards 260th birthday we're embarking on 0 for huge discovery. expedition good.
