remains in place custody prime minister. prime minister boris johnson expressed his condolences in parliament so the whole house will be shocked by the appalling news that $39.00 bodies have been discovered in a lorry container in essex this is an unimaginable tragedy and truly heartbreaking i know that the thoughts and prayers of all members are with those who lost their lives and their loved ones. the truck entered britain via our london saturday police are now trying to piece together how the journey ended in tragedy. and charlotte passes in the industrial park in the town of gray's east of london where the bodies were discovered charlotte you're at the scene there one of the latest developments. well the police have cordoned off this area since the early morning hours when this discovery was made to 39 bodies inside the truck we were

able to take a look behind that gate that you see behind me we had a look at the truck just an ordinary truck of course but a horrific scene really you can't even begin to imagine what the conditions were like and sights of the truck full of people for the 39 people that died there we saw forensic teams working on that truck and they of course at least at this hour trying to identify the victims and site the truck do we know anything more about who those victims might be charlotte. well authorities belief that this truck originated in bulgaria but they haven't said who those victims were if they might have been bulgarians i mean this incident really reminds of another one in 2015 at the height of the refugee crisis when a truck was found in austria with over 70 dead reviewed she said we're trying to find a better life in the european union and of course we know also that refugees and
5:05 pm
migrants are trying to enter the united kingdom and hope for a better future on a. on a regular basis but at this point this is all a matter of speculation and authorities have not released any more information on who those victims might be and where they were from and the route of the truck itself is quite curious do we have any information about why the truck took a detour through ireland on its way from area to the u.k. . so this is what we were let's to believe all day that the truck actually end through the island of ireland into the united kingdom in this small port town in wales now just a minutes ago we learned that this truck apparently went through belgium and straight into the county of x. essex so took a very straight line and ended up here in this industrial area it's all
5:06 pm
a bit murky at this point the interesting question will be how much did the driver really know i was talking to a truck driver. unrelated to this issue of course but who told me that he that most of the time the drivers don't really know what they are carrying in the back of their trucks and this is what authorities are of course now having a very close look at this 25 year old northern irish driver home much did he know and what really happened on this journey from apparently boag area to essex especially as he is being held now on charges of murder of 39 people charlotte potts with the very latest there thank you charlotte. let's get a quick check now some other stories making news around the world nearly half of the population of north korea is under nourished according to the united nations a u.n. special investigation has found that $11000000.00 people are facing what it calls alarming levels of food insecurity the u.n.

broke out last week i. now familia scenes on the streets of the chilean capital santiago. so mr weeks the country has been virtually paralyzed by protests and riots was. the unrest response when the government hiked subway prices but it's since grown into a broader outcry against austerity and inequality are. far enough back a lot of this is nothing more than the demonstration of a general cross-section of discontent it isn't about political costs over. magickal parties today it's about the struggle of different sectors. of the of the dialogue is impossible it's impossible for president pinera to accept that as an awful and hidden enemy is nothing more than also the people in the streets asking for equal rights i'm not asking you to give me anything these protests are no longer about

the lack of jobs it's much more the u.s. image. on choose day about half of chile remained under emergency decree and some regions were under a military curfew. in an effort to ease tensions president sebastian pinera an announced a welfare package including a guaranteed minimum wage state pension increase and stabilize that it tricity costs. if it's true that the problems haven't come about in the last few days they've been building up as many decades and the different governments were not and on not able to recognize a situation in its total magnitude. has this situation of inequity abuse has led to a genuine and sincere movement on behalf of millions and millions of children and i recognize and demand forgiveness for the lack of vision that me you want to see me you know that. canaris proposal has been welcomed by some but others have called it maybe cosmetic the country is braced for more protests. and joining us now to
5:10 pm
discuss this we have going to my old who is the latin american expert at the german institute for international and security affairs thank you so much for joining us here on the program we just heard from piniella apologizing essentially for the lack of foresight coming up with this new proposal is that enough though it's not enough because he's only talking 2 of the economic and social sides he hasn't touched the political side you have as you problem to see. the political elite and chile which is traditionally very closed and which has not been able even though to position parties to get close to the people to have you. interests and what is reason of the protest so there has to be a major effort to. come to a dialogue which is not a visit through additional forces but i mean for his part he says that there was a lack of foresight we know i mean it's just
5:11 pm
a fact inequality in chile is higher than any other latin american country that is surely no surprise to the political elite such as pinjarra why has it fundamental changes been made earlier it's the model of chile it's a privatized model of social security is the model of looking for economic growth and not so much looking to the social dimensions we have protests of students in 20062011 that have been made in my life just moments but always with the interests to maintain the model as it is working and know the moment to revise the model and to begin the discussion in the country but it will go to and which is the model which i hate to spoil for you let's talk about some other models because it's not just a labor we're seeing on rest on the street such as those images that we have just been looking at also in ecuador for example civil war like conditions due to the
5:12 pm
government austerity program that i swear we've seen this for quite some time in venezuela basically you know a permanent political crisis there argentina at its financial limit. are these just coincidence is or is this part of a larger trend in latin america right now i think we have to be cautious to find the common denominator for all the cases of national specific disease and that we have to respect them but one major opponent is for sure we have a contagious effect misuse of violence you have. of and successful change in ecuador and a lot of people in the streets of us who insist this opportunity to make a copy in their own country and try to come to grips with the difficulties they have as a political article nation because in olivia we have the same president we're just trying to reelect him so as in argentina we have opposable campbell of comeback of

cristina fernandez the other the same people which are turning around in the ruins of the power there must be a change in terms of and then turn it to vision is to the neo liberal model so what do you think are the lessons learned then. to not only look to the economic side to have a clear vision that we have to be more active in the public sphere to make that not only was established forces to have new forms of fora to discussion with the use with other excluded parts of the population and this means a new type of. policy politics and polity as well going to my old expert at the german institute for international and security affairs thank you thank you . well russia and turkey say that they have a plan for syria's future following talks in the black sea resort of sochi russian president vladimir putin and his turkish counterpart are to type error to one say
5:14 pm
they are adding another 6 days to a ceasefire that was due to expire on tuesday evening turkey wants to establish a buffer zone along the border with northern syria from which kurdish forces would be excluded the agreement follows a u.s. brokered truce which expired on tuesday. well nato secretary general struck a positive note about the deal between russia and nato member turkey though he said it's too early to judge the consequences i think what we have seen over the last days is encouraging because it shows that it's possible to move towards a political settlement a political solution the 1st requirement for having a political solution is to stop the violence is to stop the fighting you have seen is at least some reduction some significant reduction in violence and fighting. you're watching news still to come on the program never mind the price this stage is set for a rock memorabilia sell off including the infamous attorney card again worn by

powerful and the design combines 3 elements a gold medal the olympic flame and the face of a woman who come to hear more about later for the 1st time will be used for both the olympics and the paralympics and since it was unveiled on monday it's been splitting opinion some like it others laugh with some social media users joking that maybe it would have been a better fit for a dating site or long one twitter user likens the flame used in the local to the popular dating app tender another reckons the designers may have found then the evil smiley on skype or someone else spotted a likeness to lisa simpson. it was this tweet that really got some traction on twitter with more than 30000 likes where one writer imagines the logo as a modern day parisian woman the french olympic logo tumbles out of bed on a parisian morning she writes she totals her missy ball dons brought home stripes on bally flats and whisks down the stairs from her 5th floor apartment to grab a get before enigmatically texting 2 men who are pursued in her room and sickly so

that is the cream of the crop and quite poetic one must say it's about what is the significance of the symbol of the women is how it is intended to be had the woman is actually really significant to france's national story her name is mary and she is the personification of the french revolution and 789 and sometimes she's known as the goddess of liberty q.c.'s in a painting by usually. organizers say marianne symbolizes the imperative for everyone to advance her spirit reveals an ambition to be a gala tyrian sharing and generous they write and it's also a nod to history and female empowerment women participated in the lympics for the 1st time in paris and the united 100. you may be getting a sense of deja vu with all this kind of the reaction that is probably because this is becoming something of a kind of pre-games routine where everyone turns into a design critic and it really kind of came to
