minister becomes the 1st major political casualty of 2 weeks of political protest signs al-zawahiri has resigned after his proposed reforms failed to stop the demonstrations protesters say even a reraise departure is not enough to satisfy their demands. it's good to have you with us we begin tonight with some breaking news the u.k. is headed for a snap election in december and it comes after british lawmakers in the last couple of minutes agreed to back prime minister boris johnson's call for new elections in peace voted 438 to 20 in favor of an election to take place on december 12th parliament will be dissolved next week to allow. for
10:02 pm
a short election campaign of just over 5 weeks the election is set to revolve around britain's departure from the european union with boris johnson hoping to secure a majority and to push his brakes a deal through it comes after the european union agreed earlier this week to delay the u.k.'s departure for a 3rd time the final deadline now is january 31st of 2020. our list take this now to london our correspondents who are deployed she's on the story for us going to be the usual largest there johnson he's succeeded in his 4th attempt to get a snap election approved he had a huge majority in favor of it is this the bread breakthrough that britain has been waiting for. yes exactly here we go december 12th a general election in the u.k. and apparently the 4th time is you could almost hear that sigh of relief and
10:03 pm
parliament and really an overwhelming majority this time around voted to support this general election call from boris johnson and now parliament will be dissolved this stay the day that the u.k. was supposed to leave the european union october 31st of course we know that this is not happening now parliament will be dissolved and then the parties will hit the campaign trail for the next 5 weeks and we've already heard minutes after the vote that this mood in the parties have changed and they immediately got into the campaign rhetoric you know we were giving a report to the u.k. conservative. prime minister johnson told his party that he did not want but that he was forced to go forward now with how confident johnson be. to deliver the majority that he wants.
10:04 pm
well he's very confident and i think it became clear in the last weeks that he really wanted this general election when you look at the polls it's just that the conservatives this time around could actually get a majority in parliament and they have polling very far ahead at the moment of the other parties and on the positive side johnson a said he's an excellent campaigner we've seen that in the referendum in 2016 where he can painfully believe though that he has managed to unite the conservative party in the in the last months as prime minister so that is on the plus side on the negative for him he has not delivered on his number one promise to deliver on thursday that he hasn't managed to do so we will see how voters really react. to that and then we have to remember that once upon a time in 2017 theresa may called unexpected snap election and she was very far
10:05 pm
ahead in the polls the conservative party was just in 6 weeks time she lost it and we ended up with a hung parliament that we've seen over the past couple of years so a lot of things can change in 5 weeks of campaigning in british politics and history can repeat itself. what we have to look at what the paci swan's in terms of this election will be all about that in the conservatives say very clearly that they don't want to deliver on bricks at that they have to deal that with a majority in parliament they want to push through the bricks of potty is there on the conservative side they want to get breaks it down a.s.a.p. as well and then on the remain side that want to remain and the european union and the field is a little more wild let's say we have the labor opposition party then not so clear
10:06 pm
what they want that maybe a 2nd referendum then we have the liberal democrats who say let's forget about breaks it altogether and just remain in the european union so i think what it boils down to is that voters here in the u.k. don't really have an appetite at the moment for a general election if you look at the polling but they will have a choice on bricks it and it will be so to say a referendum and the choice between voting for policies who want to deliver on bricks it or stop breaks it all together but you have to wonder. you know it's very dark in northern europe in december this is going to be one of the shortest days of the year and you're asking people to come out and vote. just before christmas people don't have. all it takes on their mind you have to wonder if voters are really going to be in the mood to give any party what it wants at the ballot box. yeah that's right brand we haven't seen an election in
10:07 pm
the u.k. in december i think that is the 1st world war and of course for a reason you mentioned it it's very dark it's cold as a vote. but we also have to say voters feel very very strongly about the subject of breaks it across the aisle and across the argument so to say and i think this a lot of people here have been calling for a 2nd referendum on the issue and i think when the votes are finally given a choice to vote on the issue they will and the and head to the polls and in fan base i would say yeah they will have plenty of time to think about it between now and december 12th. show all the parts of the story for us in london show a lot to thank you. are now to the middle east for almost 2 weeks protesters have filled the streets in lebanon on federal with political dysfunction in their
