you lived in sao paolo you've lived in chicago for the last years there you've been living and a small isolated town in the texas desert is called marfa and this is not your average texas town is it no i mean it's a town basically you know that was the military for a while when the war was over. him and disrepair and one of my favorite artists of all time donald judd a writer falls into the minimalist category of artists i guess for some people he had a vision of having permanent installation of his works light. minded works so his r. and b. are from there really pulled me into this small town and i played a chicago underground do a show there 10 years ago and just fell in love with the place now you new albums are just brought out a trilogy of new albums called the marfa trilogy how does living in

a place like marfa texas in the middle of nowhere i think the nearest airport is 3 hours away how does that influence your work in these albums but what's so dynamic about the area not only is that it in the middle of the desert close to the mexican border. it's the dynamic of the of the town itself with with the artists. visually literature poetry books. of film it's a very dynamic community this way and it's always somebody i mean it's. a residency for about or something else and we're showing something that's just fascinating and very briefly i believe you're starting you're trying to start of more of a music scene there since there's such a big visual arts you know we're going to few things that we started thing called the desert and crips which we did last year and that's one of the one of the new releases for this year this year we did desert encrypts 2 which included our chad teller on drums fantastic drummer from the chicago underground and the unfair

now freedom of expression is something that not all artists can take for granted especially those who've lived under oppressive regimes in the days leading up to the 30th anniversary of the fall of the berlin wall we're hearing stories from artists who were there today we're going to hear from the lithuanian punk rocker some of us who happened to be visiting east berlin on that night november the 9th 1989. we are all right. with all just around the so many people who. shall. we go to the from the bus and asking people what's happened what's what's this is miss her and they told us they did the burn this broken the walls broken they were free and free. for 41 years germany was

a divided country from 1061 to 1989 a war even split into the western part was part of democratic west germany the east the poppy going to communist east germany. eastern bloc countries weren't free either the soviet union had forcibly and it's the baltic states. and. by the late 1980 s. opposition to the soviet occupation was growing. better known as sam and his band. for lithuanian independence and they were in berlin when the. peak was broken his was a symbol. is was a symbol for the us we can do it to. the fix was founded in 1987 the lyrics of the songs often criticized the soviet occupation taking artistic liberties they didn't actually have. made
