up fears of more violence in the middle east israel's targeted killing of of how well students militant leader in gaza is met with a barrage of rockets fired on israel from across the border and get out while you can't get into herds to flee catastrophic bushfires one fire chief says it's so bad that his crews are simply unable to stop the flames. plus half a 1000000 people fighting to stay in the country they call home the u.s. supreme court hearing arguments over the trump administration's decision to end protection for the children of undocumented migrants the dream will meet one woman whose future hangs in the back.
9:02 pm
i'm brant goff to our viewers on p.b.s. in the united states and all around the world welcome but libya's former president morales is in mexico tonight after taking up that country's offer of asylum now after landing their morality said that he feared for his life and he said his departure from office amounted to a coup d'etat or ellis step down 2 days ago amid pressure from the army following allegations of vote fraud in a bid to secure a 4th term as president but now it's unclear who's in charge back home in bolivia a president on the run his flight ends here at mexico city airport the pressure on his eventually became so great the team no longer felt safe in his homeland believe via some knots an american countries led by leftist governments continue to support him. and the government of the people of bolivia great true but
9:03 pm
the president of mexico saved my life. what do you have. despite morales's departure believe you remains in turmoil the violent unrest continues. the images circulating the internet allegedly show mobs in the past chanting civil war now it was true i think the former president's critics accuse morale of the supporters of arson and attacks to sow chaos i was inside of. themselves of sticks and rocks if the jury heard explosives going off that night we couldn't sleep we've started to god but also for our houses so that these criminals don't integrate our homes that was in my letters going to mine by the minister for how to run. the opposition's vice president of the senate is to take temporary control of
9:04 pm
that house making her next in line for the presidency she called for the formation of an interim government and new elections to restore confidence. sheesh yeah go to him take get in the mood as it's urgent that there's some certainty for people put the country and for a civil war he say she has to be involved and he says you only see really i will take up the task yes me but will cease to feel that if another who is chosen another path than i would also accept that. bolivians prepare for a future without evil morales but on twitter he has promised to return to some bolivians that sounds like a threat. for the latest now we want to bring in our correspondent your hunger mira's he is standing by for his in bolivia's capital paws your home good evening to you we know that morale us mr morales is now in mexico do we know why he received political asylum from mexico do we know the backstory there.
9:05 pm
the government of mexico the government often underestimate the office of another is one of the few left wing governments in latin america and it's easy to understand why he went to there i mean he didn't have many many other choices maybe nicaragua by the cowboys maybe not the best now that most to peacefully place to go in this moment or maybe cuba but maybe everybody does it want to leave and they take their ship and then it is venice well and in terms of quality of life and security on political stability is not the best place to be so mexico was one of the last choices he cut i think you know they were open country wanted to offer him a see them so if you missed it mexico was his best on the choice so that he's in mexico and what about the bolivia that he has left behind what's the situation in the capital there i mean we understand that the amount of violence has actually
9:06 pm
increased. that is it to asian here or here in bolivia since last sunday it's been ups and down i mean on sunday when we knew about the evidence resignations resignation the city became a huge party i mean we had thousands and thousands of people in the streets partying saying in there were music everywhere fireworks it was a big party was on bendable and on sunday night it was the opposite there were a lot of tension. unrest in every department off the country on monday morning that the country woke up feel fear on uncertainty right now last night that the army had to join the police because there were thousands suffer supporters from ever made his comments without us on the day they they were they wanted to take up us and then the police and the army had to work together to do avoid this situation
9:07 pm
so from last night to now we are a little bit calmer but yet just a few minutes ago we were listening to airplanes the air force airplanes flying around us over the city so that it does very i mean it shows that there is a lot of tension still in the city right now you know it definitely volatile in fluid in libya tonight you'll remember is reporting for us from the bolivian capital your home thank you well now to the middle east there are fears of an escalation of tit for tat violence between israelis and palestinians tonight after some of the worst attacks in years along the guns of border people in southern and central israel word binds to stay inside after palestinian militants fired a series of rockets into israeli territory they came in response to an israeli airstrike in the early morning hours that killed a militant leader in gaza. choose de morning scene at the home of islamic jihad
9:08 pm
senior commander abu atta. hours later islamic jihad fighters respond with a barrel of rocket attacks from. over the border in israel the warning sirens sound once again. israel's iron dome air defense system into seps many of them but some do get through. damaging peoples' homes and injuring some israelis. many choose to evacuate from the israel gaza border israel's response in gaza more airstrikes killing several palestinians. israel is not interested in escalation but we will do anything to defend ourselves . islamic jihad founds revenge for the death of.
9:09 pm
siobhan we assure our people and our holy fighters i know that we have no choice but confrontation. israel's strike on a popular anti israel militant came during a period of relative peace but now the deadly to and fro of rockets is back. on. israel is in political turmoil right now perhaps headed for a 3rd general election in less than a year netanyahu is under intense pressure and has recently been criticized for his failure to stop rocket attacks from militants in gaza now he's responsible for a targeted assassination but consequently more rockets. well i'm joined now by journalist lucia in gaza city good evening to you. tell us what is the situation right now there in gaza. well as the report
9:10 pm
mentioned. more recall moral kits from gaza and more strikes and continued. the latest strike that killed 2 militants affiliated with islamic jihad apparently they were trying to launch rockets and so in total 5 philistines at least 2 of them affiliated with islamic jihad with killed after the estimation of the islamic jihad commander and his wife in the morning. so the situation is like most of the gazans now at home it's quite outside no cars barely you hear of any car passing the street or but the bombs and explosions and then talk to me about how significant how important was.
9:11 pm
according to islamic jihad he's the he's the chief or the commander of the. area of the gaza strip he's a member of the security or. the military council which is. calling and controlling the military wing of islamic jihad actually is where we simply accused him of standing behind fire and rockets specifically the one. of the rockets that attack dog when that and he was speaking. and campaigning for the elections free a month ago. his name appeared at the time i mean he was in well known he was a tack by israel there were as a nation of tense before the he was injured once in the last war and 24 t.
9:12 pm
he was there did you see off the commander of the north area in in. a was killed at the time but this was was injured and now he's not that old leader of his let me give you some other top leaders of the military wing but he seems like he's important to israel where do you think things are going to go from here as i'm looking at a flash in the pan event or do you think this escalation is going to continue. 1st of all people in gaza wish this would have been and very so. most of the people i talked to the day they willing this has has an end very. i mean practically. islamic jihad is the 2nd military power in gaza strip the 1st one is how much how massive still is restraint mass didn't involve get involved and firing rockets into israel or participated in. it so that would make a difference
9:13 pm
a big difference in this debate it means that we are in a long. or a large scale. of of exchange of fire with with but without that i think things will be limits it and the media tools will be able to control is that means you have to get back to that to us ok boucher with the latest from gaza city tonight thank you and here are some of the other stories that are making headlines around the world in hong kong fresh clashes have erupted between police and anti-government protesters demonstrators threw petrol bombs and police responded with tear gas during a protest outside hong kong's chinese university the clashes a part of the violence escalated in the territories months long protest movement spain's acting prime minister pedro sanchez has signed in a dream it aimed at forming
