police have described the suspect as a 16 year old a student at the school who carried out the attack on his birthday. detectives have reviewed the video at the scene which clearly show the subject in the quad withdraw a handgun from his backpack shoot 5 people and then shoot himself in the head. police are investigating the crime scene including the suspect's house for clues they're trying to figure out his motive answer the question of why he turned on his fellow students. well earlier i spoke with jason camp and he is the l.a. bureau chief with n.b.c. news radio and he told me more about the suspected motive behind the shooting. well right now no motive is still unclear but there's a couple of reports that are getting a lot of play one and today is his birthday and 2 there are some social media

posts where he might have made reference to today's events before they took place and on top of that there might be a relationship that might have gone sour which might have triggered that we're also learning that the gunman's father recently passed away so that might have sparked some anger far as officials are saying they're not saying anything except that they're doing a social media deep dive they're looking at everything from computers to from phone drives to c.d.'s or d.v.d.'s that they found on his computer as does anything that they can get their hands on they're going to look at that digital footprint and jason this shooting is one of at least 30 u.s. schools this year the result of the injuries or in death of course we know gun control is a divisive issue but is there any kind of plan in the works to make schools at least to make schools safer for students. oh of course and you know there's nothing definitive right now and it really depends on where you fall lyrically or which

side of that you you believe or which side do you believe bit the left take all the guns away you don't need you don't need them and i see no you're part of the military and even then there's question that on the right it's we just say can we have a right to own these firearms that a firearm that was used for 45 caliber pistol is not legally purchased by a 15 year old child you have to be 21 here in california and in california we have some of the strictest gun laws in the entire country there are you know he shot 5 people in then when he was shot himself we're only allowed to have magazines that hold 10 rounds some states in the united states can hold you know underground magazines. jason campbell donya reporting with the latest in los angeles for us he's the bureau chief with n.b.c. news radio thank you very much italy has declared a state of emergency after the catastrophic flooding of venice the government in rome has released 20000000 euros for immediate aid prime minister jets up

a conte described the disaster as a blow to the heart of the country the mayor of venice at the very future of the city is a state of the floodwaters recede and the people of venice salvage what they can. just. this city floods regularly and phoenicians take precautions the onus of this chill restall and normally prepared for one and a half meters of flood waters but the high will trying to stay boats almost 190 centimeters of salty sea water swelling into the city. this head tells entrance is reinforced with metal barrier the water preached and it you know things are so much i think we have 70000 years of damage more loss. obviously we're still counting the level of damage and we're trying to fix parts of the electricity. we threw away around a 1000 years of food because it was all in

4:10 am
applies to everyone working there as well so carers for example parents will have to prove that kids are vaccinated it's not enough of them to say my kids are excited they'll have to prove it and they if they don't vaccinate their kids they face a fine of up to 2 and a half 1000 euro as it applies to asylum seekers and refugees that they have 4 weeks once they've been given accommodation to be vaccinated against measles this state of play in germany is that if you are vaccinated against measles you get what's called a triple shot that immunizes you against rebel and mumps and in some cases chicken pox true so this is kind of all encompassing of the state of play at the moment i ranging kids and adults included they're interesting now more than no. 90 percent of the german children starting school have been vaccinated against measles so why then did the government still feel it was necessary to take this action well the
4:11 am
world health organization says in order to prevent a mass outbreak of any type of illness or disease 95 percent of people need to be vaccinated and at the moment 93 percent of german children vaccinated so it's not quite enough measles is one of these things that's making a comeback that that nobody quite wants the w.h.o. says it's seeing 3 times as many measles cases reported measles cases around the world this year then compared to last year the measles vaccines being very effective it saved many many lives. if you will fewer and fewer people not fewer and fewer people but there there is the i guess skepticism arising around the world and some banks nations we've seen. for example in social media platforms like you tube and facebook they harvest anti-vaccination content they have been told to pressure to try and get rid of it in germany 500 people roughly have
4:12 am
been 500 measles cases this year and i guess for the health ministry that's 500 cases too many well the health ministry calling this bill quote child protection yet not everyone in germany is supporting i mean why is. this bill had months of debate and one of the main criticisms is parents should not be told or forced to vaccinate their kids they you know people arguing they should be allowed to choose and the greens were one of the fiercest critics of the bill they support vaccination but they kind of they said yes we shouldn't force parents to vaccinate they should be educated a lot of health professionals said no this is kind of the right way to go the greens pointed out though that there is quite a big vaccination gap among adults and apparently in the cases that have been. same in germany there were more cases of measles in 20 to 24 year olds than in 5 to 9 year old so they're saying more needs to be done in this group as well interesting
