hardship high tides come every year but this one was exceptional no one was expecting it no one was prepared for it and venetians are tough but they are also a little skeptical of what the government has done and will be doing for example the most of this system of very years that is meant to protect venice from the high tide has been in construction for almost 20 years it was meant to be finished 5 years ago but it still hasn't happened and the trust in the government being able to bring that to completion is quite low here. since declaring herself in term president of bolivia on tuesday and years has been busy filling out her cabinet and announcing the new elections will happen soon but she says former president abel murali will not be allowed to run were always resigned on sunday and is currently in exile in mexico thousands of his supporters marched through the

parliament has approved a law on mandating children be vaccinated against the measles virus the bill requires parents to prove that their children have been vaccinated before they can enter a kindergarten or school measles cases have surged globally in 2019 the law takes effect in march of next year. our let's get more now story now joining me in studio is your porter jared reed so 1st of all just walk us through the basics of this new law here in germany basically means children in schools day kids and and kindergartens will have to be vaccinated against measles and that applies to everyone working there as well so carers for example parents will have to prove that their kids are vaccinated it's not enough of them to say my kids vaccinated don't have to prove it and they if they don't vaccinate their kids they face a fine of up to 2 and a half 1000 euro as it applies to asylum seekers and refugees that they have 4

weeks once they've been given. accommodation to be vaccinated against measles this state of play in germany is that if you are vaccinated against measles you get what's called a triple shot that immunizes you against rebel and mumps and in some cases chicken pox true so this is kind of all encompassing and the state of play at the moment wide ranging kids and adults included they're interesting now more than 90 percent of the german children starting school have been vaccinated against measles so why then did the government still feel it was necessary to take this action will the world health organization says in order to prevent a mass outbreak of any type of illness or disease 95 percent of people need to be vaccinated and at the moment 93 percent of german children vaccinated so it's not quite enough measles it's one of these things that's making a comeback that that nobody quite wants the w.h.o. says it's seeing 3 times as many measles cases reported measles cases around the

world this year then compared to last year that means the vaccines being very effective it saved many many lives. if you will fewer and fewer people not fewer and fewer people but there there is the. skepticism arising around the world of nations we've seen. for example on social media platforms like you tube and facebook they harvest anti-vaccination content they have been told to you know pressured to try and get rid of it in germany 500 people roughly have 500 measles cases this year and i guess for the health ministry that's 500 cases too many the health ministry calling this bill quote child protection yet not everyone in germany is supporting anyone no. bill had months of debate and one of the main criticisms is parents should not be told or forced to vaccinate their kids
6:14 am
they you know people arguing they should be allowed to choose and the. greens one of the fiercest critics of the bill they support vaccination but they kind of they said yes we shouldn't force parents to vaccinate they should be educated a lot of health professionals said no this is kind of the right way to go the greens pointed out though that there is quite a big vaccination gap among adults and apparently in the cases that have been seen in germany there were more cases of measles in 20 to 24 year olds than in 5 to 9 year old so they're saying more needs to be done in this group as well interesting stuff so march 2020 will see this new bill that's right now i. think of a much. are now to belgium where it was a big day for 2 of the country's furry ists new celebrities the pirate diets a zoo has officially named its newest giants panda cubs it's wins they were born in august have been named die of belle by the 2 cuddly cubs are in good health and
