these gunmen wall abandoned in a well for decades this piece of history is now on public display. the at a. time when a whole free glad you could join me a victory for the head of germany's governing conservatives on a kate cub pack about a lay down the court looked at her party conference yesterday warning delegates should resign if she didn't get their full backing while that a 7 minute standing ovation kind about took over from chancellor i'm going to cd you need in last year but the party's popularity has continued to slide under her leadership. she now has time to catch your breath and get it come up at a party conference the head of the cd you. manage to see off the rebellion against

your leadership at least for now. i described here at the party conference where germany could look like and ask the party whether they wanted to go down that road together with me and the delegates confirmed this very impressively on friday the. delegates rewarded her passionate speech where she posed the question back me or sack me with the 7 minute standing ovation. even her most vehement critics declare their loyalty this year you once to make a display of unity and present itself as the party of the center a territory where they have lost some footing lately as the far right a 50 and the environmentalist greens gain support. you mention involve people want answers to their questions not to our questions on the web so what are the city use answers to the big questions 5 g. a digital ministry and an inclusive to deter agenda the city use priorities to

modernize the country's digital landscape come current power has bought herself time to deliver on such promises readers with the i want us to win the next wonderstruck election and we're working towards that. the decision on whether she will be the one leading her party into the 2021 election will be taken next year and chancellor angela merkel her low key appearance at this weekend's party conference was yet another reminder that america is drawing to a close. and i'm now joined here in the studio by a political correspondent kate brady she's just back from the c.d.u. party conference thanks for coming in and joining us kate it seemed to be quite an unusual party conference i mean just walk us through some of your main takeaways well the kind of overarching issue ahead of this conference was definitely a question over the leadership of the c.d.u. and who might then in 2 years time run as chancellor to become america's successor but there were other issues on the agenda as well today especially so on the 2nd
5:04 pm
and final day it was digitalisation that was one of the big issues particularly when it comes to the infrastructure of germany's the 5 g. network now because this was somewhat of a of an upset i think for german chancellor angela merkel stace of the c.d.u. the conservative c.d.u. party they decided that it will now be up to the german parliament to debate whether huawei the chinese tech giant will be able to put a bid in to build germany's 5 g. network so far germany's chancellor has said that germany shouldn't rule out lead in hollywood have a chance at putting in a bid at least but of course as we've seen there are already a number of democracies including the us for example who have blacklisted the chinese tech giants and that's largely due to the suspected ties to the chinese government of course just going back to that other point though all of this very interesting book that really has been overshadowed by the fact that there is this
5:05 pm
issue still lingering in the c.d.u. over the leadership and of course it's unlikely it come karrenbauer that's been at the center of all that we've seen. racing slide down the polls in recent months and she was appointed and she was seen for a long time as the heir apparent the anointed actor anglo-american and it's interesting that we've seen even german chancellor angela merkel her tone has shifted slightly in recent months and money comes to making comments on the prospects of a k.-k. issues known as. succeeding her in the chancellor a she's become somewhat quieter than previously and we've seen some more conciliatory words at least yesterday from one of her adverse reason least in the party. but i wonder i mean for how long is an update come safe is she safe and no she's certainly safe for now but there is still plenty of time to go until the 2021 elections here in germany sorry c.d.u. like germany's or the political parties they'll be putting their candidates forward
5:06 pm
already next year and i think it's still very very likely that we'll see the likes of friedrich matts here as you say is one of the loudest critics he will certainly be back he said yesterday that he wanted to to have a significant role in the c.d.u. in future but given some of his previous comments and criticism a k.k. it seems that he won't be happy without taking back chancellor that candidacy to be germany's next chancellor that said there was a small win for a.k.k. today and that was due to a motion which was blocked at the party conference and the the youth groups of the youth group they had actually tried to put through a motion to have a grassroots votes like a primary to elect who they want to nominate their candidate for the elections here in germany in 2021 and that would have been yet another obstacle for a k.-k. as there is a lot more of
5:07 pm
a conservative feeling among the youth right now and they want to see someone more like free to matt so even the german health minister all right well plenty to analyze and sure of a doing it for us all political correspondent kate brady thank you very much indeed . let's take a look now at some of the other stories making news around the world. in colombia protesters defied a curfew on friday to gather on the streets outside the home of colombia's president yvonne do k. 3 people have been killed in clashes with the police since the demonstrations started on thursday. a car bomb in a turkish held border town in northern syria has killed 9 people monitoring group says 2 children are among those killed there has been no immediate claim of responsibility. pope francis has arrived in japan cheering his 4 day visit he will visit naga sakhi and he rushed away he's expected to warn of the

dangers of nuclear weapons francis on the 2nd and final leg of an asia tour that began in thailand. when hong kong authorities are threatening to call off municipal elections late of the sunday finance breaks out during pro-democracy protests the territories protest movement has called on people not to disrupt those district councils council elections in which those pro-democracy parties hope to send a message to the city's beijing backed government now the vote went fundamentally change hong kong's political system but it is seen as a test of kerry lamb's approach to beijing government. chris chan is back out on the street the pro-democracy campaigner hopes he can persuade people to give him their protest vote. well. after a massive moment i think an election can reflect public opinion to some extent another point is it's time for us to calm down and tell the government in
5:09 pm
a civilized way what we want to do. hong kong has been rocked by almost 6 months of under arrest some of it violent protesters have been calling on the pro beijing government for more democracy many here fear their legal and political ptolemy is under threat from china student chowpatty was shot by police during one demonstration he's now calling on people to use their vote. i hope the people of hong kong can cast their ballots and achieve more democracy in a peaceful way please cherish your vote i hope everyone can come out and vote tomorrow and. meanwhile the siege at hong kong polytechnic university continues the scene of some of the most violent intense clashes with police in recent days is still the site where a small group of protesters holed up they've been there for a week determined not to become one of the 1000 or so who've been arrested for
5:10 pm
taking part in a siege that turned violent. those running for election say they want to pursue a peaceful route forward but everyone knows that these local elections won't change policy or the procida attitude at the top of hong kong's government. in france activists in paris and around the country are taking to the streets to march against domestic violence $136.00 women have been killed by their partners this year in france now where this year alone the country has one of europe's highest rates of domestic violence and today's demonstrations are taking place just 2 days before president money what about call is set to unveil a raft of new measures meant to tackle the problem. and for more on this now i'm joined in the studio by a man who has shows who's been following this story for us good to see a man who has so it's interesting to note that protesters have taken to the streets ahead of this raft of measures that are meant to be set out in
5:11 pm
a few days' time i mean why is that when if it just goes on to show how worried they are that those measures won't simply won't be enough because at the moment government doesn't do enough to taco these domestic violence so i let me just give you some take is that 136 women where kids since the beginning of the year in france they were victims of domestic violence and it is estimated a quarter of 1000000 women in friends are in a dangerous situation and the government hasn't tackle that issue so far that's why . they built over a year ago the movement which means all of us has been created it is a gathering of 20 feminist organizations and they are actually fighting to be known as does domestic violence is. and of wonder governments simply to do more certainly very concerning numbers. and of course this is an issue which so often happens behind closed doors and with that in mind what then is the government planning to do about it well there has been
5:12 pm
a huge public inquiry launched by the governor and 7 months ago to try and tackle issues so there has been much publicized visit of a man in my crown to the police forces to see how there was they were reacting to domestic abuse calls and it was quite worrying to see for example the people the dispatchers receiving the calls and being in a situation of victim blaming of distrusting someone words so the government has much to do to address that and one of the measures that has been discussed so far would be to tackle to prevent gun ownership when for people it was a history of domestic violence however we know that domestic violence can take many forms carry more violence in could be someone who beats someone up i mean it's not just it's not just about a gun it's about a much wider issue absolutely not all of this of course it comes with the backdrop of the me too movement against sexual abuse sexual harassment at the same time
5:13 pm
their movement hasn't really taken off in france why is that well let's say to say there's a culture in france of victim blaming a victim as shaming if you go into the back in time when them in dominic's toscano was accused of rape in new york to fast reaction in france to a wider reaction was that of disbelief i owed this man he was you know he was on track to become france's next president and there was 2 like people who pitted to man and not to major have been raised and when you see 1000 items such as getting to know for example advocating to freedom of being an important 80 that's what she's saying then that puts a lot of. victims of trees govern not being trusted of being seen as people making up stories just to be in do news and so there's that whole culture that that needs to be tackled not only in france but as far in europe recently you so the actress

added and there who who claimed to have been raped when she was a teenager by sexually abused by when she was a teenager by a famed director and she kind of opened. a can of opened a new way of expressing what happened and today people are taking to those chase 2 days before the government will unveil does measures just to show that thousands of people are concerned about what's happening right now in france absolutely just so much work which still needs to be done in france internationally of course is where the money was shipped thank you very much indeed. well a pair of batman and robot outfits described as the only known complete costumes worn on a $960.00 s. t.v. show is going up for auction in los angeles the bow in a robe and costumes complete with capes mosque's boots gloves and tights are expected to fetch between $150.00 and $200000.00 at the auction now there is also a working batmobile bat phone and the shakespeare buffs with
