uppal of novelty candidates they're behind him as well other conservatives have been winning seats even in traditional labor strongholds and they're expected to have a salable parliamentary majority vote counting will be going on throughout the night . here's a look now at exactly how those projections which came out earlier breakdown by party the magic number for a majority is 326 you see that line there the conservatives are projected to have 368 seats while labor just around 19155 seats are being projected for the s. and p. 13 for the liberal democrats one for the green party and 22 for a group of other parties which includes $34.00 plied come read that as a welsh nationalist party. well we have team coverage all night tonight joining me in studio we have our group of analysts u.k. politics analyst bob mudge roger evans from news and standing by on 1000 in london
5:03 am
is a barber of aizawl barbara let's start off with you you're starting to get some concrete results as we heard there coming in this is shaping up to be a big night for the conservatives. it is an absolutely huge night and we saw it triumphant boris johnson just a little while ago in his own constituency in x. bridge in north london which she regained was a comfortable majority even though labor had really given it their all to defeat him because they thought they could probably have a chance to bring him down because he isn't really very popular locally if you walk the streets there as i did a little while ago people are really quite critical of him but boris seans nevertheless he talked about that now he could get bricks done people wanted it would be signed sealed and delivered from what we hear already next week
5:04 am
parliament is supposed to vote on the in the 1st round for the brics a deal to get things moving towards the end of january and then boris johnson did it again he just cannot sort of shut up about his big promises he talked again as he did during the election campaign about having 50000 new nurses for the health system for the ailing n.h.s. and that he was going to build 40 new hospitals now these flames have been during the campaign de bunked several times over and over again but still he just keeps doing it because obviously this is an election where sort of 3rd telling whatever you think is opportune will get you. it will lead to a huge victory on the other hand we also heard already it just before that jeremy corbyn who also won his own constituency. was big majority again more or
5:05 am
less announcing his resignation he is going to step down not immediately he wants to sort of be there for prose's off thinking on consideration and debate but then he would sort of give up his post it's a devastating loss for the labor party being simply savaged by the tories tonight roger ebert's i want to turn to you 1st let's talk about boris johnson because this really is his night on the conservative side. a big majority potentially potentially the biggest we've seen in decades for the party how did this come about . i should say that just another project structure that has a slightly smaller majority of them we've been talking about or evening but nonetheless a clear majority for boris johnson i think the one thing that this really boils down to and we've been saying this is the 1st exit poll came out a few hours ago now is that boris johnson campaigned on
5:06 am
a 3 word slogan on the 3 would slogan was get breaks it down and i think in reducing it's of that he's managed to appeal not just to traditional conservative voters nor even just to the people who voted for brakes it's the many many people in the nazi frankly sick to death of the long drawn out process that has been surrounding the whole brags that debate the constant augments the deadlock in politicians the failure for any progress we've made really since the referendum and i think many many people actually were able to just let sentiment get brags and they have i think in many cases had to overcome the natural dislike of boris johnson as a person and he used really largely to slide by many many people and vote for him and boris johnson of course himself is a very a bully in the car and so his you know he's been a celebrity figure if you like for many years now in the united kingdom he's done
5:07 am
chat shows and game shows he was the mayor of london of course and indeed he was just as it when he was at the count's where his successor his own constituency denounced time ago and i believe we can actually listen to him and his victory speech a few moments ago. good morning everybody boy a gentleman thank you all very much and it's not i don't want to i don't want to tempt fate because clearly lots of results are still coming in and west so many dealing with projections but at this stage it does look as though this one nation conservative government has been given a powerful new mandate. to get gritty done not just to get pretty done but to unite this country and to take it forward and to focus on the priorities of the british people in the bottle on the n.h.s. and yes we will recruit 50000 more nurses and 6000 more and we will build
5:08 am
40 new hospitals and i'm proud to say that one of the across the country and one of those hospitals will be right here in oxbridge and south reisa and i'm grateful i'm grateful once again to the people of oxbridge inside prices for returning me to you it is an absolute privilege to do this job and to work for you and i thank once again the police the council everybody who's worked so hard all night to count for us to return the offices i think my fellow candidates in all their glory. know buckethead. and others and others forgive me if i if i don't if i don't identify them all but i bow bow i want to thank i want to thank the people of this country for turning out to vote in a december election that we didn't want to call it which i think has turned out to be a historic election. gives us know in this new government the chance to
5:09 am
respect the democratic will of the british people to change this country for the better and to unleash the potential of the in time people of this country and that is what we will now do and if we are lucky enough to be returned as polls as the exit polls seem to suggest then that work will begin tomorrow thank you all very much already i should say go tomorrow today. thank you thank you very much thank you thank you prime minister boris johnson there speaking just moments ago rob marshall on terms you and discuss the labor party now because as much of a big win as it was for the conservatives this was a massive loss for the labor party and germany absolutely and i think all those traits that describes just now the petain to boris johnson. nowhere to
5:10 am
be found in jeremy corbett and he's come across as this grandfatherly figure slightly detached maybe from the reality this chummy persona that we see in boss johnson and i think he's proven to be such a divisive figure in. the policy and voters have not been able to rally around. what he's been trying to get across and he's with something so ambiguous on the brakes he's been sitting on a fence he's had to try opinions the length of the same time trying to get the remaining side on his side and i think now we will see in the foreseeable future. we'll step down and i think we can listen to what he had to say and then i want to go. i want to also make it clear that i will not lead the party in any future general election campaign i will discuss with our party to ensure there is
5:11 am
a process now of reflection on this result and on the policies that the party will take going forward and i will lead the party during that period to ensure that discussion takes place and we move on into the future. both party leaders making headlines already in fact the u.k. press has their headlines of course let's take a look at some of the newspapers the early dishes hot off the presses already with their spin on these u.k. election results you see course victory for boris and a victory for breck's if this was really also a election rejoice and then you see some of the other side a nightmare before christmas says the daily mirror and the paper from scotland that is of course saying scotland is a different country some big results for the s.n.p. party tonight barbara let's go back to you i mean just we saw that one headline saying that this was
5:12 am
a victory for rex it how much of factor did grex it play in this election because the labor party was talking about nearly anything but bracks it and the other on the other side the conservatives made it a 3 word campaign let's get back to don. it seems to really have cut across party lines and to solving the old party loyalties . astonishingly quick manner and it is also saying that what you see here is the country really being divided between the nominee and the receding of the european countries before between big cities metropolitan areas the medium sized cities university towns. and the countryside small towns small places where working class people live and where in britain the underprivileged people live and they really latched onto bricks it was their cars for them bricks
5:13 am
it seems to have to really have to do is emotion was a sense of self-worth and in the end was identity politics this new idea that is sort of racing across the globe and popping up here and there in a different guise and it seems in britain it is bricks it that sort of carries this populist appeal rationally hard to hard to explain but it is a very strong emotional effect of that has played a role here and that made all those labor seats those age old and if were ever held labor seats come tumbling down like dominoes and we did through the courts throughout the course of the evening we did see the old seat of tony blair that has been all in labor hands for decades before to the tories and it's really it's a symbolic moment it's certainly a symbolic result they are tony blair of course the the leader of the tories now
5:14 am
the previous leader now roger i just want to turn to you and talk about scotland quickly because the s. and p. also projected to have gained nearly 20 seats in that exit poll what would that do for discussions about potentially a new referendum on scottish independence well i think it will heights and the demands and strengthen the demands of course for the many people in scotland who. are not in favor of break suits and remember the scottish votes of the brits who they voted for remain and this very strong vote for the s.n.p. . is i suspect paul from the scottish nationalist votes of course it is also a vote for remain in other words for. not. leaving the european union and of course if the united kingdom leaves the european union then scotland automatically leaves the european union because colon is part of the united kingdom
5:15 am
and therefore the only way out if you like for scotland as a nation within the united kingdom would be to do voles from the nazi kingdom and become independent and i think that those calls will certainly be strengthened as a result of the results however one has to say that us policy of the united kingdom is therefore as policy of the politicians of the united kingdom there is of course no majority. for a new referendum and it would seem very unlikely to me that boris johnson would allow one because he talks about himself as being a warm nation and being someone who has as the future of the union halls of the union means scotland northern ireland wales and england a lot of story lines not the biggest one being potentially a land slide victory for the conservatives roger evans and of course will in london for us thank you to you all.
5:16 am
well as european leaders digest this election results and what it means for the future of the e.u. in brussels there was an agreement on one of the blocs most ambitious proposals member states have backed plans to drastically slash carbon emissions training for net 0 emissions by the year 2050 it's part of european commission president. european green deal. 1st suspense. and then a little disappointment journalists in brussels knew the result of the u.k. election means one thing that brags it most likely will happen. but leaders focused on another topic that might fundamentally transform the e.u. in the years to come it was very interesting to see the leaders and or seeing and supporting. a complex european green deal we've been debating all the opportunity
5:17 am
it brings along that debate took almost 10 hours the result of all member states indorsed the goal of the u. becoming climate neutral by 2050 but one country did not commit to actually implementing that goal poland. we agreed to the principle that poland can achieve climate neutrality at its own pace and she came out that. the reason for this exemption is that poland is heavily reliant on coal and fears the costs of transition to a greener economy the country holding back on a commitment seems like a serious setback to the deal but the german chancellor did not agree. on that and i'm quite content and if the circumstances change europe is not divided into different pots we have one member state that needs a little more time to think about how to implement this so that we have a good outlook for success for home and often more than
5:18 am
a flick it was not the outcome these activists had hoped for though before leaders kicked off their meeting they had try to create a sense of urgency by bringing fire and smoke to the summit venue it appears the message did make it to everyone inside the building. are the quick check now of some of the other stories making headlines around the world the u.s. has test fired a missile over the pacific ocean. that have long been banned under a treaty between the united states and russia the arms treaty was abandoned last summer amid deteriorating relations arms control advocates say that the test risks fueling an arms race between the 2 countries. the us senate has formally recognized the killing of 1500000 armenians between 19151917 as a genocide the resolution is expected to anger turkey which has always denied that there was an organized mass murder senator bob byrd and then has said the u.s. was quote on the right side of history is right. well germany has hit

back at us plans to penalize construction companies working on a controversial gas project in north stream 2 pipeline will carry russian natural gas to germany washington says that's a security risk because it makes europe or dependent on russia berlin and says the 10000000000 euro pipeline is vital to its energy needs german foreign minister says european energy policy is decided in europe not the u.s. . the u.s. plans to impose sanctions on companies and individuals involved in the pipeline project that includes german as well as other european companies the penalties include travel bans and asset freezes companies continuing with north stream to could find themselves cut off from doing business in the u.s. the u.s. lawmakers fear the pipeline could give moscow a greater leverage over the german and e.u. energy markets german politicians disagree we in europe think we can decide. for

ourselves about our own energy security and diversity and i personally do not buy the argument by the united states saying we are making ourselves more dependent or maybe even completely dependent by russian oil and gas deliveries russia's gas pramono majority stake in the 1200 kilometer long pipeline which will transport natural gas under the baltic sea from russia directly to do. amany circumventing ukraine and other eastern european countries the project is more than 90 percent complete and is scheduled to start operating in mid 2020 north stream 2 has the potential to double the amount of natural gas germany imports from russia the country needs more gas to ensure energy supplies remain stable as it phases out the use of coal and nuclear power and as germany goes green policy makers here suspect washington is also worried about the business angle of north stream too. he

was obdurate the us produces liquid for charlie and gas using the fracking method the carbon footprint is worse than cold and they have trouble selling it to here on the european market because they aren't competitive that develops peace and whatever the u.s. motives president trump says he will sign the bill into law and implemented as soon as possible. russia and germany are working together on the north stream to project but the 2 countries also mired in an escalating diplomatic wral over the murder of a georgian citizen in berlin. the german ambassador was summoned to the foreign ministry in moscow on thursday morning to be told that russia was expelling 2 german diplomats they have 7 days to leave the country the kremlin says now the reasons why. the diplomatic being expelled as a forced retaliatory measure this measure is unavoidable to have our diplomats were
5:22 am
expelled we consider that decision by berlin absolutely baseless we disagree with it so this is the inevitable response. the spat is over the killing in august of the kind of congo shrilly a georgian who fought for the separatists in the chechen war he was shot in the head twice at close range in a berlin park the suspect a russian citizen was soon arrested german prosecutors suspect russia could be implicated in the killing but say moscow has refused to cooperate in the investigation that's why germany last week expelled 2 russian diplomats the russian government denies any involvement lawmakers in berlin have condemned russia's expulsion of 2 german diplomats do i think. russia's decision comes as no surprise to anybody. about the no it conveys however the wrong message. and in terms of the matter at hand it's entirely unjustified. russia's response
5:23 am
shows it has a guilty conscience and we expect russia to help clear up the murder was modest that investigation is still underway in the meantime tensions between germany and russia show no signs of easing. new zealand police say they have recovered the bodies of 6 people who died during the volcanic eruption on a white island off the country's northeastern coast 2 other people are still missing they are presumed dead it was a risky recovery mission scientists have warned that gas is on the island after monday's eruption are so toxic that taking a single breath could be fatal. for more on the recovery mission i'm joined by chris of paramita she's a reporter in auckland new zealand. first of all how's the recovery operation going so given the police commissioner said is that it's not over yet they for a treat 6 bodies this morning but they do believe that there are still 2 victims remaining there on the island right. correct this morning new zealand time
5:24 am
a defense force team of 8 successfully recovered 6 bodies from the island. operation itself started at 8 am local time and it took 4 hours from when they land until they had to call for the bodies on to the needy ship wellington they were placed in coffins will be received by families at the airport a coastal town 50 kilometers from white island before they are flown to auckland late later this evening for id if occasion purposes as there are still 2 bodies believed to be on the island the operation is not over yet police believe at least one of the remaining 2 bodies could be in the water surrounding the island they have to deploy to a dive squad into the waters and further aerial searches are carry out are carried out this afternoon. chris a do we know why this operation was given the green light we're hearing how dangerous this was how even breathing
5:25 am
a breath of air was potentially fatal what led to the response to just say hey let's go and let's try to get these bodies. well it sure has been an emotional event for the police both the local community and particularly for the families and friends of the victim. i think it's due to the mounting pressure from families and locals. 5 who are wanting to take matters into their own hands 7 and now they are ready to hear that the operation went to plan during the press conference earlier the police commissioner was thankful to the 8 person team involved 6 now and 2 woman and he is hopeful all of the bodies can be identified but he cannot absolutely guarantee it crowd gathered by the waters in phuket overlooking the island cheered when they heard the bodies were recovered but there was also sadness for the 2 bodies not yet uncovered mounting pressure from locals
5:26 am
and families yeah resulted in this risky yet successful operation although as the police commissioner mentioned it is not over yet not until they were treated the other 2 bodies are not over yet the chorus of hermes in auckland new zealand for us thanks very much. nearly 10000000 people from all over latin america have descended on mexico city to celebrate the version of guadalupe mexico's patron saint the focal point of the pilgrimage is one of the catholic church's holiest sites the church of our lady of guadalupe where pope francis held mass for hundreds of pilgrims version of guadalupe is a powerful symbol for millions of latin america's catholics traditionally some pilgrims as you see crawl the final stretch of their journey to church. i will here is a reminder now of the top story that we're tracking for you at this hour early results from britain's general election are pointing to a massive parliamentary majority for british prime minister boris johnson and his
