live. christmas. the gender gap is narrowing equality between men and women has improved over the past year but germany still has a lot of catching up to do also coming up more strikes obama paul's new pension plans in france how will harris solve the crisis which threatens to spoil christmas for many pledge holiday makers. i'm going to go jones and this is your business
11:31 am
live from berlin welcome i was starting with some good news equal ety between men and women has improved globally that's the results of the latest study of the world economic forum on the issue of gender gap like in previous years nordic countries continue to lead the way to gender parity not iceland is in 1st place for the eleventh's year in a row the country's gender parity is nearly 88 percent that's according to the w e f norway finland and sweden follow close nicaragua is also granted in the top 5 and rwanda at number 9 beating germany which rounds up the top 10 gender parity is more advanced in german politics than it is a business on the whole the w e f recommends reducing the wage gap between the sexes the situation doesn't look like it's improving fast enough globally the world economic forum expects it to

take another 100 years before gender parity is achieved well let's discuss this now with our financial market correspondent kyung lah who's in has done it by for us in frankfurt call us all right so i think the most important thing for us here is that germany has a lot of catching up to do how big an issue is gender parity for business here. i have to say monica it's a big issue on international women's day it's not so much of an issue in everyday life you know many business leaders are following a culture of competition of man and forging his own destiny even many women in leading positions are a bit. critical of the idea of gender equality you know the idea of promoting women just because of their gender only very very slowly a little bit of progress is being made and that has to do with the fact that we
11:33 am
have an enormous shortage of skills here in germany you know with many well educated women not taking part in the workforce that's you know not useful not efficient that doesn't really make sense and something else has to be said if you don't want in an aging society the pension system to collapse you know the idea that the younger generation cares for the older generation you need the resource of women in the workforce exactly and in this specific kind of i mean i certainly remember that they have been campaigning for more than a decade now to get young women to get built interested in so-called stem disciplines of science technology engineering math medics any progress in that field also there the progress is really slow let me tell you monica i have a couple of girls in my family who are really good in math and natural science subjects god knows where they got the genes from but. they are often the only girls
11:34 am
in their science class the only goes among boys and that's not an easy situation if you are a teenage girl you know. trying to find your own identity i have to say many of those programs appealing to more girls in the stem subjects they often remain in clean mode they do not effectively do enough to promote the girls in those subjects i couldn't that was in there on gender parity or in equality in germany thank you so much. us aircraft make a boeing will hold production of the 737 max in january it's the 1st such production ports in more than 2 decades the decision comes as the popular plane's grounding looks to extend well into the next year the freeze up by one of the largest u.s. exports this will impact suppliers allies and finances across the globe as well as the u.s. economy $77.00 marks jets were grounded in march after crashes in indonesia and

ethiopia that killed 346 people. now this is unrest in hong kong has led to a massive outflow of capital that's according to the latest numbers released by the bank of england it says investment funds in the asian financial center have lost as much as $5000000000.00 since april the flight of capital accounts for nearly one and a quarter percent of g.d.p. violent demonstrations have occurred regularly in hong kong ever since the government tried to pass a bill that would allow extradition to mainland china. to france now where who work is continue their protests against the government's new and highly unpopular pension plans the transport sector is hardest hit with flights in and out of paris today reduced by 20 percent and many train services are also canceled commuters are livid and many parisian sphere of the strikes could spoil
11:36 am
their christmas plans. the french government wants to merge 42 existing pension schemes into one workers want to hold on to their retirement packages some with privileges like early retirement and generous benefits that's the case for most transportational workers and they're at the center of the current strike. in paris only 2 metro lines are running frustration is high among passengers at the few stations where the servers. are but i'm clearly flat out. and know i'm stuck at god you know i have to get to the 15th i don't know how. it's not fair my family was supposed to come to visit me and now they won't it's very very selfish. but the striking workers have a different view. this is not about protecting our retirement we're on strike to
11:37 am
protect everyone's retirement. with the metro and other trains out of service traffic jams all over france are now stretching hundreds of kilometers french president among women has expressed solidarity with the millions affected by the strike but he has shown no sign of backing down on pension reform. now bad news for everyone using the internet there will be more cyber attacks next year as according to security consulting firm control risks which identified some top global risks for businesses here's a look at some of those starting with the american elections a highly charged contest where businesses are likely to be caught in the crossfire also cyber warfare will reach the next level threatening critical infrastructure with attackers using ever more ruthless methods and this is particularly worrying in conflict areas where military equipment could be compromised and control risks
11:38 am
also points to a growing risk in what they call leaders without strategies who are more concerned with tactics and less with long term goals so overall not a great outlook for the new year so i would like to talk a little bit about this now is nicholas raises director cyber threat intelligence at control wrists and he joins us now in london good to have you with us firstly after all the bad news is this really going to be that bad in 2020. well i think monica there are a couple of things are going to happen in 2020 that are going to make it a particularly challenging your businesses as you mentioned we have a large presidential election happening in the u.s. we're also seeing more and more global tensions and this is particularly driven by a greater focus on short term gains by political actors across the world rather than long term strategic planning and lastly in the technology world where we see
11:39 am
more and more exploitation of digital infrastructure we have a significant concern that in 2020 we're going to see more impactful cyber attacks and potentially some getting out control but with that said there are also great opportunities ahead and i think here again in a world where and certainty dominates there are also great innovations and great technological advancements which mean a 2020 also a very interesting year for businesses and society is a lot of all right well thank you very much for showing us the other side of the coin as well but let's stick was a race going to break it down a bit i mean why would come pick the companies be as high on cyber attack risks because of the u.s. presidential elections. so we saw this happen in the 2816 race fundamentally and in a large scale geopolitical gauge where a new us presidential election is a major one every 4 years. triggers activity from
11:40 am
a range of different threat actors globally and in particular a big for both influencing political discourse in the u.s. but also a time where states tend to test one another and test one another in ways increasingly that have taken place in the digital arena we saw it with social media influence campaigns in 2016 we saw with targeting of critical infrastructure in 2017 and we know that as u.s. administration led by transform policy becomes increasingly focus on rapid gains as you action gains momentum we're likely to see some very symbolic events in 2020 and a hoarder discourse from the u.s. side and when you mention the threats coming from leaders without strategies do you have any one's particular in mind then. it's a pretty broad assessment globally where we have seen donald trump comes as
11:41 am
probably the prime example here where increasingly and it has been the case since his election increasingly we have seen twitter as one of the main foreign policy tool of the trumpet ministration but we also see this across europe for instance with a real challenge of european leaders to come together and to think longer term around some of the things that are happening in europe in your neighborhood whether that's the situation in syria the relationship with russia and even more recently on issues like climate change yesterday we are seeing most of the global leadership failing to have a long term strategies and playing much more on tactical short term games it's a lot of challenges ahead in 2020 but also a few upsides as you mentioned earlier nicholas race director side effect intelligence and control risk in london thank you so much. this here is is not a match that's just been lit it is a space x. falcon 9 rocket carrying

a communications satellite for mobile broadband services which blasted off from cape canaveral in florida just 11 days after another falcon 9 took off from the same pat on a supply run to the international space station the falcon 9 a 1st stage return to earth after boosting the vehicle out of the dense low atmosphere dropping to an on target top style and aboard is space x. drone ship stationed in the atlantic ocean the successful recovery some 8 and a half minutes after launch less space x. is 40 seven's overall and it is the 29th abort drug ship. very impressive as a business update here at the w for me the team thanks for watching.
