a controversial new citizenship place arrest dozens of demonstrators at least 3 people have been killed. i'm for welcome to the program. russia's security service the f.s.b. says it has neutralized a gunman who opened fire near its headquarters in central moscow and the f.s.b. also confirmed that one of its employees was killed in the attack the health ministry said 5 people injured moscow police have cordoned off the area and no motive has yet been established but the shooting took place soon after president putin at the end of the yet news conference. let's go straight to endeavor to show in moscow welcome back emily what more can you tell us. well phil there's been
7:02 pm
a huge flurry of information of course from the media but there have been some confirmations from the official side as well the f.s.b. the security service has confirmed that it was actually 3 shooters involved in this incident all of them have now been been neutralized as they put it that happened outside the f.s.b. headquarters in the center of moscow there has also been confirmation now that one traffic police officer was killed in the incident and one the f.s.b. officer was killed as well the ministry as of health is also talking about several people having been injured they put the number at 5. we'll have to see how that developed develops going forward the area has been closed off witnesses were talking about being taken off buses near the area in the center of moscow as well
7:03 pm
and the shooters have yet to be identified what's being said about a motive. well the security services are actually now calling this a terrorist attack even though we don't really know what the motives are and as i said the shooters are being identified they the investigative committee has launched a criminal investigation into this the timing of this incident of course is interesting as you mentioned phil today we had the body near putin's yearly press conference where he talked for several hours to the press about various issues he of course was the director of the f.s.b. before and also this attack comes ahead of a day that is dedicated to celebrating the security forces that's tomorrow an official day of celebration of the security forces so perhaps the timing here is
7:04 pm
important to consider and perhaps you could tell us a bit about the location as well really this is this is. outside the headquarters of the secure service. well there have been varied reports a variety of reports about whether this shooting actually took place outside the building or inside the building but this building is an iconic building in some ways one of the most well known buildings in moscow the head of the security services right in the center of moscow near busy streets just a stone's throw away from the kremlin as well so it's certainly a central location in moscow and one that will certainly spoke the city i think i'm going to show it in moscow thank you. it was 3 years since an islamist extremist around a truck into a busy christmas market in central burning killing 12 people and injuring dozens many of whom continue to suffer from the injuries to the attacker and his family
7:05 pm
was known to germany sources at the time of potential terrorist in memory of the worst islamist terror attack on german history exactly 3 years ago 12 people were killed and more than 50 injured on bright side plots a square in the center of. the nation was shaken 3 years later politicians remember the victims you talk to in the least t.v. this deep cause deep wounds the profound sense of loss amongst the families of victims pain and trauma among survivors and a permanent scar in our society it has become clear that democracy and freedom are vulnerable what happened just after 8 pm on a stolen truck careers into a christmas market with hundreds of people the perpetrator a nice summary who had turned to radical islam in germany scopes
7:06 pm
a few days later he was shot and killed by police in italy. several german security bodies had known for some time about the danger of this man posed but they never pool to knowledge the failure of the police and other authorities to prevent this attack is the subject of several political inquiries their conclusion is damning if i live a fairly soon to face one of the most serious dangers of 2016 no one seriously disputes that he was a hot potato that the authorities kept passing back and forth no one really wanted the case. many questions remain open but this is above all dedicated to remembering the victims. and. simon young is at the place where that attack took place 3 years ago i welcome what's happening there today. well phil i'm standing very near the spot where an assembly carried out that attack
7:07 pm
on the 19th of december 3 years ago and perhaps behind me you can make out the kaiser wilhelm memorial church today surrounded by a christmas market and it's here that just in the next few minutes really a memorial service will get on the way a memorial event that's brought a number of relatives of the victims 12 people of were killed of course as we've said and many were injured a lot of the relatives of come here today including at least one family from israel to lay flowers and mark this. grim date and at 2 minutes past 8 the seating so that's in about an hour's time the bell of the church will be wrong here 12 times to mark all the 12 date it's a very peaceful scene that. it should be how aware do you think people are of what
7:08 pm
happened there 3 years ago. i think they're extremely aware what your looking at behind me just now is the christmas market this being cleared out a little bit by police just at the moment because these memorial events are taking place here but just an hour ago when i was walking around you know it's a very normal christmas market scene with people drinking blue vine and you know eating sausages i spoke to several people he said that of course they're aware of the significance of this date but pretty well unanimously most of them feel that security has been stepped up there are plenty of police around there are barricades preventing any repeats of course of such an attack but people generally feel that the authorities are alive to the dangers now in a way that perhaps they weren't 3 years ago so it does sound like that vattel has has changed the way the germany operates in germany security operates around the
7:09 pm
sort of public festivities. was certainly has i mean in practical sense as i say barricades have been installed at a lot of locations like this where the public are gathered which could potentially be targets of terror attacks and police are of course alive to that more widely of course has been a large discussion about what the authorities the police and intelligence authorities should have known about the perpetrator because he was known to police and there's been quite a lot of arguments really about police failures and intelligence failures and ahead of the attack but there have been changes as well hundreds more police and intelligence services focusing on this kind of terror and you know doing everything they can to prevent an attack and of course that's top of people's minds on a day like this. so many young bright child plots in berlin thank you.

a legal it is against the spirit of independence of our country. not my get. on twitter condemnation of the police man handling one of our most prolific and influential public intellectuals and scholars rama chandra guha who said he was engaged in nonviolent protest when he was arrested. the government said it was forced to take steps in the interest of public safety after many protests turned violent last week. in the capital delhi more than a dozen train stations were closed. roads blocked traffic congested authorities also shut down mobile phone networks and the internet in several regions. have very difficult situation and a very bad situation we're facing a lot of problems the road still so have a lot of traffic jams and some of them a blocked so it's
