a surprise move comes as president vladimir putin calls for reforms that could keep them in power well beyond the end of his term look at all of the details from moscow. to it's good to have you with us the trade dispute between china and the u.s. could now be a big step closer to resolution that is both sides are signing what they're calling ses one of the trade agreement now as part of that deal beijing says it will buy more from the u.s. including energy and agricultural products and both sides are holding off on imposing further tariffs on one another and many other hot button issues remain on resolved but trump says he will visit china in the not too distant future.

china's leo who is in washington to sign a cease fire in a trade war that has slowed global growth i.m.f. managing director chris telling a georgia reminded the trades are this was only a truce not a permanent peace deal leaves in place tire of some 360000000000 dollars worth of chinese goods it doesn't address technology transfers china's huge subsidies for state owned firms and cyber theft. these terrorists will stay in place until there's a phase 2 if the president gets a phase 2 quickly consider releasing terror says part of phase 2 if not there won't be any terror later. what this modest deal does is prevent escalation u.s. has agreed to stop labeling china as a currency manipulator beijing will buy $200000000000.00 worth of u.s. farm products manufactured goods and services asian markets were lower on reports the trumpet ministration was preparing to further tighten controls on technology exports to china sua way i think it will be

a fight she will fight to fight a cycle between china and the united states and so both sides. continue to try to build a strategic advantage or. no solution could be expected any time soon on the strategic rivalry between the world's 2 biggest economies u.s. presidential elections are coming up in november and the chinese side feels it has enough domestic strength to avoid major compromises. then fizzling from business is with us to break down this story for us what does this mean is the start of a new partnership between the u.s. and china better be nice but i don't think it is it's more about china or the us drifting apud i mean these moves that the u.s. have made this change in its relationship with china. has basically meant that it's speeding up the whole process of trying to becoming more self-sufficient china is now urging more farmers to grow more it's moved from being the globe's factory and

creating so much cheaper stick stuff it's becoming a high tech leader and he is now leading in so many high tech fields and that's happened basically overnight so we're going to see possibly more conflict in the future between these 2 sides what about you know president trump is always talking about getting the best deal possible in phase one of this agreement who has gotten the better deal he has. he's got a firm so it's all about trump i mean he's the one who's created this chaos in the 1st place and he's then trying to clean up the mess and touting it is something fantastic that he's achieved i mean surely he has clinched managed to clinch the promise of more u.s. energy products and i were cultural products that plays drums voter base of course he's been out there saying to farmers go buy bigger bigger tractors but the i.m.f. says this is just a truce not peace as we mentioned in that piece analysts say this is far from a comprehensive deal preventives collation so it's a huge relief for businesses they were expecting even more tariffs. but it's really
6:05 pm
hard to know for businesses where to produce which countries when they're going to get hit with tariffs or not and you can't make decisions like moving from china to vietnam to avoid tariffs overnight there are still so many tariffs in place i mean that's hurting consumers ok so it's far from comprehensive and also there are a lot of issues that remain unresolved for example one of the big issues of points of controversy has been the chinese subsidies for state owned firms what about phase 2 could this fall apart when we get to negotiations for. facer i don't see it falling apart what would be disastrous if china suddenly changed its economy overnight that's impossible i mean we're talking about communist capitalism those 2 don't really go together china has managed to do that much and is profiting from that it is a huge way so there's no quick fix this is going to take years to see what actually does develop as far as the economy goes what we don't have is a level playing field and trump has every right to fight for that this 2nd phase
6:06 pm
would have to include things like take their subsidies i'm told it will include cyber security but trumps record on brokering deals isn't all that good i mean a lot of people talk about so much pain for so little game all right something to keep an eye on for face to their own from d.w. business thanks for that analysis meanwhile the impeachment process against president trump has moved another step forward house speaker nancy pelosi has announced the prosecutors or managers for the president's impeachment trial which is expected to start next week and now within the hour the house of representatives will vote on sending the articles of impeachment to the senate here's what palosi had to say about the choice of prosecutors the emphasis is on litigators the emphasis is on comfort level in the courtroom the emphasis is making the strongest

possible case to protect and defend our constitution to seek the truth for the american people i'm very proud and honored that the 7 members distinguished members have accepted this serious responsibility again to protect and defend for the people defending our democracy did have these problems fully aliya is in washington watching all of the latest developments for us there hi pablo so the impeachment managers have been selected what happens next. well what happens next is 1st i should mention what the impeachment managers are essentially what they are is they act like if this were a court of law like the prosecutors so they'll be the ones who'll be arguing the case for the impeachment to impeach president for him to be found guilty of those articles of impeachment before we get the bad of course the next stage is that nancy pelosi she's to speaker of the house of representatives will sign these
6:08 pm
articles of impeachment to of course one for abuse of power and the other for obstruction of congress it's a sort of a ceremonial aspect in some respects because what once they have been signed the sergeant of arms as he's called will bring those articles of impeachment physically from the house of representatives to the senate and that marks the next stage in this process which of course is the senate trial so the impeachment managers are like prosecutors will there be an actual trial or we're going to see witnesses. well that's the big question here at the moment once. we have to see whether it's actually agreed to democrats have been really pushing for witnesses to be called in the trial republicans have been very much against of part of what's happening is that behind the scenes at democrats have been trying to find republicans who would vote with them in favor. of actually having witnesses and also having further
6:09 pm
evidence which has come to light being included in this senate trial which is going to be taking place but like i said republicans have very very much against it but we'll find out this week in the end whether those witnesses are cold and because it needs to be voted on in the senate and that will happen sometime this week with the trial expected to start what's being said here next tuesday because monday here in the united states is a holiday. pablo this all comes with a presidential election looming in november how is all of this playing out across the country among americans. well sumi the united states of course is now getting into a period of we'll say the election campaign in some respects the country is very much divided old the polls are indicating that this is split partisan lines so republicans very much against the impeachment democrats are very much in favor of
6:10 pm
it and when you actually look at the figures in all those polls conducted it's practically $5050.00 and there's a sort of very little difference between those in favor and against it which very much so the feeling here in the united states over president trump's presidency did have these problems fully ileus reporting there in washington thank you so much . now to some of the other stories making headlines around the world china has rejected a report by human rights watch condemning the treatment of the 1000000 weak or muslims held in so-called political education camps the country's foreign ministry says the document is biased and distorts the facts the report also denounces beijing's use of mass surveillance and the silencing of critics and sudan says it has put down a rebellion by former security agents linked to its ousted ruler omar al bashir at least 5 people were killed in fighting late on tuesday in the capital hartill the security agents had reportedly rejected

a government restructuring plan. russian prime minister dmitri medvedev and his government have resigned to make way for constitutional reforms that president vladimir putin proposed today put in house reportedly asked for the cabinet to continue working until he appoints a new government the prime minister's resignation came as a surprise after putin's annual state of the nation address put on use the occasion to put forward a series of constitutional changes that would shift power from the presidency to parliament analysts say those proposals are part of put his efforts to shape a new role for himself when his presidential term ends in 2024 and this is what dmitri medvedev had to say. but i think. we use the government of the russian federation should provide the president of our country with the opportunity to make all the necessary decisions to change the russian political system we do indeed conditions i believe it would be righteous that the incumbent government of the

russian federation resigned because he's. more on the story now with the abuse emily sure when. tell us more about what has happened here. well meeting new d.v.d. if announced his decision to resign and the decision of the whole government cabinet to resign at a joint press conference with the mirror putin he said that after putin's state of the nation address. that basically that speech had showed a kind of reshuffling in the balance of power and that he thought it would be right to resign putin himself he also commented and he said that means would take over a role as deputy head in the security council going forward and that he would be in charge specifically of defense and security it seems that this decision on the part of me to be just has come as a surprise. to many people including pluton we heard dmitri medvedev saying he

wants to provide the president with an opportunity what did he mean by about well he talked about giving yeah giving the president an opportunity to make the necessary changes he also talked about this balance of power being reshuffled and experts here in russia say that perhaps that shows that disagreed with the constitutional changes that putin proposed today in his speech he after all announced a huge reshuffling of the political landscape in russia which gives the president less power and the parliament both the upper and lower house more power including when it comes to the lower house the power to appoint the prime minister and to appoint the cabinet so perhaps if disagreed with that power to appoint the prime minister being given to the duma the parliament meanwhile a new prime minister has been named emily who is that. he

has just been named. who isn't a very well known figure here in russia he was from 2010 and has been it up until now the head of the russian federal tax service putin has already met with him and apparently the duma is considering his candidacy and should announce whether he will be appointed and approved very soon this kind of appointment of a little known bureaucrat perhaps someone who is just known for his government service and for getting the job done as head of the tax service. sure when reporting in moscow thank you let's get a reminder now of our top story here on d.w. u.s. president donald trump and china's tryst premier league here you are about to sign
