than 10 countries to press for a solution to the long running conflict in libya and it was only a few hours before the end of breakthrough no more arms shipments to the war torn country. we can confirm that we have all agreed to respect the arms embargo and also money toit more closely. this in the forgotten that if by this. however they haven't yet spelled out consequences for breaking the embargo. instead the conference pledged not to offer military support to the warring parties. russia and turkey in particular have long involve themselves in libya's civil war. the rival leaders themselves refused to sit down at the bargaining table libyan

premier. met with his ally turkish president wretch of type. while warlord khalifa haftar join talks with france as a manual mccall among others much as its stake for the international players here libya has oil and gas and is a key transit point for refugees the conference insisted that a new political process is necessary to address the country's crisis. and today in but leading member states along with regional and international denies ations if send a strong signal that we are fully committed to supporting the peaceful resolution of the libyan crisis. the real marker of the conference is success or failure won't come until it's clear if the promises made here are being kept and that could take several weeks. we are now joined by kristen handle thing expert for the bertelsmann foundation christian welcome. to you a playing

a bigger role in international affairs at this point germany stepping up and hosting the conference is the e.u. now prepared to help in force the weapons in boggo and the agreement facing international players to stay out of the conflicts just say the new e.u. special representative for the foreign policy mr bush has announced before that conference and believing that the e.u. should be ready to play also an extrovert role in the country itself there where there were there were 4 european leaders and the commission. and the council re presented with within the leader conference today in berlin and this shows that the e.u. after years of in a e.u. conflict about libya and you see france and italy have contradicting interests in libya on on economic fields and so so the e.u. was paralyzed and turkey and russia stepped in so it's really time now that the e.u. and its direct neighborhood like to be shows diplomatic and political strength and

be ready to help on the ground kristen both good and merkel emphasized that there is no military solution to this conflict in libya in in their opinion but there was also no announcement of a ceasefire and the 2 warring sides wouldn't even sit inside of the same room can they bring a political solution in this case there can be a political solution this is why the idea of that conference and the process is to get all the spoilers from outside out of the of the of the congo controversy parties west libya against east india so once the idea is once russia turkey egypt emirates not further meddling in libya this our government in the west and the half their government in the east what would get together on the table and form a united government but the spirit on the ground between these 2 leaders specially with general have to is the winner takes it all you know i am with my troops just

before tripoli's i can win the war now this is stopped somehow and with it will be very difficult because now this special observation you know if further nurseries or further. weapons are getting into the country from outside it will be more observed now it will be getting more difficult but libya. there are more than 5 or 6000000 weapons already there and there's a population of 4 it's it's a very difficult task that said then is the white ford clearer now how much hope is there for a peace or cease fire in. i think it's an important sign you know in international politics where we have also conflicts around the world that really multilateral diplomatic efforts are getting shape now in libya with the building process we should need also for syria and we would need it also for iran and saudi arabia this is my feeling so for libya. there is an agreed in these 55 points is

a very very specific roadmap with working groups and what the parties have to do and who is sharing water it's interesting to observe the political will is being to continue that this is really implemented it will be very difficult and and and the readiness of the countries really to engage on the ground will be a testing field for diplomacy in the next weeks the backing is you know from germany and germany's intention to get involved in the libyan conflict is to empower a united nations to do its work on the ground yeah so the german task is we help a spoiled us to get all the countries so that united nations can work on a political solution in the country maybe it works like that we see christian handled saying the expert for europe and the middle east and building thanks to tom pleasure now to some of the other stories making news around the world. protesters in lebanon have once again fast with security forces it follows riots on saturday

from a rocket which cut off its engines to mimic a launch at an altitude of 19 kilometers the rocket burst into flames as was planned meanwhile the tatchell parachuted into the ocean completing the last key test before space x. can start flying nasa astronauts to the international space station. well they vary on space no down tilton is joining me in the studio for more on this and by 6 exploded a rocket today but that was part of the plan yes it was typically when you think of giant fireballs and nasa i mean something horrible has gone wrong but that wasn't the case today what we saw today was basics testing an emergency escape system which is basically designed to make sure that astronauts in the case of a catastrophic failure would still be allowed or able to safely perish of back to ground crew and survive and have a catastrophic failure failure rather during a watch and nasa officials and space x.
2:10 am
officials also said that this is been a great test in that it actually clears the way to the 1st manned test flight of the dragon crew capsule which we could see as soon as april and that would of course be a huge step forward for space x. and also for nasa as well i mean the united states has been the premier space to traveling nation for decades now but a lot of people don't realize is that since 2011 since the space shuttle fleet was actually mothballed they haven't had the capability to send manned missions international space station on their own instead they've been forced to rely on old russian rockets the soyuz rockets which have us body track record in recent recent years so this is a huge step forward to for nasa and space x. when it comes to returns manned space flight to the united states space x. is a proven kaga carrier they fly regularly and reliably and return the hard way it's a pretty neat trick but how much was this a crucial piece of the business model that i ticked off to well in terms of business model i mean it is a huge step forward because of the next step for them is basically. getting those
2:11 am
manned missions that something they haven't been able to do in the past but it's also a push forward from nasa because for years basically space flight has been the pervy of large international organizations and also governments private companies haven't played that much of a role now but nasa is attempting to change that model they're trying to basically set more in private businesses which is why they're turning to the likes of boeing in space x. they're hoping that they'll they'll be able to drive down costs and we've seen that with space x. they've been able to reduce the cost of getting a kilogram of stuff into space by a factor of 10 it used to cost about $20000.00 now it costs about $2000.00 so this is a huge step forward for space x. and that realm but it's more than just that it's also about bringing public enthusiasm back to do to be more focused on the space program i mean you could say that enthusiasm and support for the space program has really been basically falling off since we landed on the moon back in the 1960 s. and nasa hopes that by getting these manned missions back to the united states that the able to increase that support that they need to keep funding these missions
2:12 am
long term and actually space x. they're also focusing on that i mean one musk their owner and founder has made no secret of the fact that his major goal is getting a viable mars colony set up by 2050 and the only way he's going to be able to do that is really by getting it reignite in that fire of public enthusiasm which actually drove us to land the moon back in the 1960 s. if he doesn't do that space x. and nasa is going to have the money to develop the technology they need so this is a this is a small step forward for nasa space x. and you know one must but they still have a long way to go in terms of reaching the real goals what they really want to be doing long term watching as always there until thank you thank you. in the bundesliga by munich turned on the style as they thrashed head to berlin 4 nil to climb to 2nd on the table all 4 of the visitors goals came off the half time it was a miserable afternoon for half as coach you can klinsmann taking on his former club

of the season bringing him level with team a van or in scoring shots i and there was no let up from by and she shall go because in the goal of the game not long after the spaniard looking very pleased with himself and for good reason i'm picking his spots off the underside of the bar i the 2nd half go blitz was completed by paris 6 just reward for his efforts for neil the final score i win some an outcast by his former club. they have so much quality in their team to play with want to touch as the midfield you know their combination football you know they in a flow and to stop that flow is pretty much impossible then especially when your team right now that is fighting relegation. that relegation fight now feeling very real by and showing klinsmann what he's missing. so let's see what the weekend results mean for the bundesliga standings and we will see i'll be standing there
