legend shaquille o'neal says there are no words to express he's pine people are just devastated what's been the wider reaction in the us today is still shock you know i got the alert on my phone and when i 1st saw it i said. this is i you know nobody it's odd that they would make a mistake like that i just did not want to believe it i took me to go to rooting other outlets to really confirm that it was him and you know 7 hours later i am still in shock and many other people here in america are just still in shock they can't believe 41 year old kobe bryant really that hero is gone that quickly and not only that but his 13 year old daughter died in the crash as well so people are just very shocked and right now in downtown los angeles at the staples center where the lakers the los angeles lakers play which is the team that he belonged to for 20 years there's a massive amount of people outside the staples center right now with

a makeshift memorial just talking about colby and making signs and putting candles out and this is happening at the same time that the grammy music awards are going on because they're happening also at the staples center so there is so much going on so much of an outpouring around the u.s. everybody is really still in shock and trying to come to terms with it but also praying for his widow and her remaining 3 daughters. kobe bryant was just the superstar of the n.b.a. told to us through some of his achievements on his impact on the gun. well you know before i even get to that one of the most interesting things about colby outside of all of his achievements is he was one of the few n.b.a. players that actually has an oscar award and many people don't know that he got an oscar award a few years ago for a documentary that he did on basketball and very few people talk about that but that's something outside of that you know he had awards for playing in the olympics
2:07 am
he was in in the many times over his list of awards are many he's at a time when just coaching is at a time in the all star he's a 4 time in the all-star game in the 11 time all in the 1st team all star so cold these lists of awards and accolades can go on and on and on on the court but he was really also a humanitarian as well and just a good father a great husband and really care about his community his family and things that went on outside the court. t.j. he he was this legend but he did have a somewhat complicated legacy he won that oscar though in somewhat controversial circumstances because he was accused of rape in the early 2000 and which i guess we should mention that as well. yes yes yes that happened back in the early 2003 i believe he was accused of rape by a young woman at

a hotel owners and the colorado and he was charge those charges were dropped some time later and he ended up having a civil suit filed against him by the young lady and that was settled but it took a while you know i will say afterwards he wasn't super friendly with the media after that but years new many years later i'm thinking more than a decade is when he won the oscar award but he did have a short period of time where people were looking at him a different way and were wanting to find out what happened and he had to come on television and make a statement and apologize to his wife and said that he had committed adultery so there was that blemish for a short period of time in the early 2000 you are correct. and he spent a lot of those years afterwards trying to rehabilitate himself and his image and then now very sadly he has a pasta way entertainment correspondent k.j. matthews in los angeles thank you very much. thank you. let's take
