story for us and she joins us for more what else was disclosed at this press conference. well as any one of the most interesting information we gather from this press conference was the way to infection it will spread this woman came from china as she was in germany between the 19th and a 23rd but she didn't come directly from one hand she came from shanghai and before prior to her german state she had she had visits from her parents she had been visited by her parents that came who came from dust away the infection got into germany now this woman didn't have any symptoms only on the way back from germany indicated in the plane did she start to feel sick and was and was checked by the sanitary are authorities back to shanghai which then diagnosed her with the corona virus now what we have finally found out was that cases of the transmission of the virus is possible even during the incubation phase before even any symptoms. what
3:04 pm
are authorities doing to prevent this from spreading into. well there are as sanitary checks for people coming from the affected areas in germany in 5 airports in town 14 ballon in munich inducer dolphin in hamburg so the authorities are fairly prepared and even before the outbreak. in china in china and even before that 1st case in germany the senatorial committee has were getting ready it was exercises simulation all measures had been reviewed even before the 1st case was detected and a foreign affairs ministry issued a travel warning for german nationals and we're still waiting for a decision to repatriate the 90 german national still in will hand this decision as to pending so so far has officials don't think that for example wearing a face mask is must is necessary to do war a face to face contact with someone infected by
3:05 pm
a different virus could suffice to be contaminated you said authorities were pretty well prepared in this case i mean how well equipped is the state of a bit of area but also germany in general to deal with a possible outbreak well you know it's one of the difficulties in diagnose is. the disease is that we need to differentiate the symptoms from those of the regular flu but like i said the preparations was already ongoing before the chinese break so all the people in tall trees that woman have been isolated invariant that's now 40 people who have been told to stay home and to stay under observation the man is not particularly ill but he's isolated in the hospital so providing according to authorities providing we follow normal precautions like washing hens regular airing all through this should be sufficient to contain the virus at the moment our reporter in manila shot on the story for us thank you so much thank you. well
3:06 pm
beyond in germany more than a dozen countries have confirmed cases of the virus in china the death toll has jumped to $100.00 with more than $4500.00 cases confirmed a study suggests that each infected person passes the virus on to 2 or 3 other people on average entire cities are already under quarantine and now the government has asked people to delay foreign travel for millions worry and waiting is the new normal. to love and support that's most needed in china right now the news popping up on their phones is mostly to worrying so of the scenes in some cities and the virus at peace and to woo hun checkpoints everywhere with the lockdown in place streets of completely emptied out to see a woman. when we face a new type of virus of which a lot is still unknown a lot of people may feel anxious. psychologists have been deployed in hospitals to

small gestures to lift people's spirits like this light show in one flashing words of encouragement everyone here is waiting and hoping that life in the city can soon return to normal earlier i spoke to correspondent my ts bellinger in beijing i asked him to update us on the chinese authorities priorities and containing the outbreak the most important step is of course this lockdown of a city unprecedented the. people cannot get out of the city and inside and we are seeing more and more travel restrictions with you mentioned ban on foreign travel and buses into and out of beijing the capital. is has stopped but the most important thing is the people in china and the people here are very wary of the government's response they are taking measures themselves they are
3:09 pm
staying at home as you can see it's eerily empty in here this is one of the main tourist spots in beijing so people are very worried about the response of the government. all right let's check in now on some other stories making headlines around the world the british government has confirmed it will allow chinese telecoms conglomerate away to have a role in building 5 g. networks in the u.k. the u.s. have pressured the u.k. to block walk away on security grounds. israeli president reagan rivlin has started a 3 day trip to germany together with his counterpart. he was welcomed at a jewish school and berlin the most mendelson high schools open to students of all faiths the high profile visit comes amid an alarming rise in anti-semitism in germany and israel's attorney general has officially indicted prime minister benjamin netanyahu on corruption charges it comes after netanyahu dropped a last ditch attempt to gain immunity in parliament the decision to charge the prime minister paves the way for

a trial during the run up to elections on march 2nd. all meanwhile israel has announced it is beefing up forces in the jordan valley that's part of the occupied west bank west bank and that's ahead of the unveiling of u.s. president donald trump's middle east peace plan israeli prime minister netanyahu is in washington along with opposition leader benny gantz where they've been meeting president trump together they're expected to present his long awaited peace plan in a few hours time while details of transfer postals remain secret there has been speculation that it could give israel the go ahead to annex the jordan valley that's a move that analysts say is sure to fan the conflict with the palestinians. the jordan valley in the occupied west bank the area running along the jordan river bordering jordan is to teach you can be important for both israelis and palestinians the photo area is home to israeli settlements palestinian villages and
3:11 pm
many farms. this is very peppered from your version is waiting to hear more about president trump's way forward. we don't need any one delay on a peace plan having said that we trust president trump and prime minister netanyahu that they will strike a good deal. expectations are particularly high among israeli officials that the term plan could lead to the an extension of the jordan valley area that means it would officially become part of the state of israel as prime minister binyamin netanyahu promised during the last election campaign. i think it's a historic and dramatic moment for the state of israel. the adoption of israeli law in the jordan valley and the dead sea will give security personal security to the residents of the coastal plain and the people of israel. put decades israeli
3:12 pm
politicians have demanded that the jordan valley remain with israel as a security buffer as it eastern border with jordan this particular area makes up about a quarter of the west bank israeli say they cannot give up on the jordan valley for strategic reasons palestinians say they cannot be a palestinian state without the jordan valley. in the palestinian village of our people are waiting to hear what the trump plan actually entail it's the leadership in ramallah of us not consulted because it has cut diplomatic relations with the trump ministration. he doesn't have the right he owns his own country that he can give to israel to britain to france to germany but he doesn't have the right to just hand out land that isn't his it's not the property of his father that he can just hand out. skepticism also prevents among palestinians in east jerusalem the part of the city palestinians would like to see as their capital in
3:13 pm
a future state in 2017 trump recognized as the capital of israel many palestinians have no hope that his plan will take their interests into account myself this deal brings fear it's a humiliation because since 948 we've trying to establish our presence but we're just humiliated and we don't have any say in any decision making. behind us of this deal of the century is being imposed on us anything that's imposed doesn't invite peace and invites war why because i as a human i ask for peace and you impose on me peace in your way so you are saying to me no look for is an individual and. people are counting down the time of. the trump plan one thing is certain there's a course for the tensions in the region that report from deed of use tanya kramer and she joins us now from jerusalem for more on this story hi tanya as we just saw
3:14 pm
in your report this peace plan hasn't been unveiled yet but there are already very strong reactions tells more about what you've been hearing. well i mean many people don't call it really a peace plan especially on the palestinian side as you heard in that report the palestinian leaders had cut off ties with the ministration. president trump declared. back in 2017 they have not really been consulted in this plan and there's a sense here that that plan might not take into consideration their interest. divides of the palestinian people and then narrative understand there is an emergency meeting being called by the palestinian leadership tonight about the same time that this peace plan of the plan the deal of the century is about to be released in washington older factions have been invited to also hamas which is kind
3:15 pm
of significant because fatah it's who dominates the west bank and hamas who is in the gaza strip and the political divides but they also have been reactions of course under israeli side as to the timing of this plan it comes out just about a month before the next elections and also read been hearing from the right being a settler didas although it is sad that this plan might be in favor of israel they already have said that it would not accept and the plan that would have to notion of a palestinian state tenure we're talking about a plan that we haven't seen yet i mean what about the details here do we know really what it is likely to include. well there have been a lot of speculations obviously and also leaks especially in the israeli media but washington has been very tight lipped about it so we have to wait and see until this is actually released but we will have to look at how this deal is being framed
3:16 pm
paramita as it is being done for example will it be based on the principles of 2 states for 2 people that is something that the internet most of the international community has been backing over the past decades of so the trying ministration didn't actually code for this at all really have to look at how palestinian state will be defined according to this you know what about the borders what about the settlements other issues very important is true of course and also the issue of refugees so this is what they have to be looking at once this is being released did he tell your crime reporting on the story for us from jerusalem thank you now to brazil where at least 54 people have died in floods and landslides caused by heavy storms across the southeast entire buildings have been washed away and more than 30000 people have been displaced and authorities are warning more rain is expected
3:17 pm

she spoke with a young one young protester who was fed up with politics as usual in lebanon. has been protesting on the streets of lebanon since october 17th. for her this is personal. been there weren't in my home and this is part of the why i remember the stuff between my school and university because i couldn't because it's so expensive this is part of the y. i remember really to suit me being of a minute being capable of turning on the heater when i was in my family's business right through the one. she's not the only one a failing economy white spread unemployment and in adequate public services have taken their toll on lebanese from all walks of life. and others career

politicians for lebanon's problems. some of them has been there ever since i was born 922070 speaking with the name of the people while generations are rising within different thinking within the from consciousness within the indication when i was born i felt that after 2 weeks of demonstrations the prime minister resigned in late october and a new government was formed. but many like perla want more. of a. way for things to work the days to actually. move this. more the political. group of papers that took over 4 years lebanon needs to. get out of with 6 durian system and its politics. getting rid of lebanon sectarian system which protesters say hinders reform and fosters corruption
3:21 pm
isn't as simple as changing a government. the country has 18 officially recognized religious groups and they all have to somehow participate in government. parliament seats are divided among most of these groups even the 3 highest political offices are allocated based on religion the quota basis jim has roots in lebanon's history and was reinforced following the country's civil war and there are some like lawmaker alone the disagree with protesters and still see a need for the system. of the needs of course you know all these are diversified societies and you need a minimum of safeguards to ensure everyone that they are being able to to get their rights said you cannot move from a sectarian government and system to a secular one from a day to another it's a process. i support the process but not to an overnight switch.
3:22 pm
probably knows that getting to bigger goals will take time but says the social cohesion born out of the movement has brought the country one step closer to change . she's convinced her presence on the streets is necessary for that change to continue. her he was reporting there in lebanon she's now back in berlin and with us here in our studio to tell us more about this story hi we saw a perilous incredible story there of how she's been driven to to protest tell us more about your experiences talking to other protesters what keeps them going out into the street day after day so you know this protest movement has been going on for 3 months it's unprecedented in its cross sectarian cross religious cross region and also cross class really cuts through all the lebanese population and in all its shades and colors and if we could summarize the impression from all of these people
3:23 pm
is that people are really just fed up they feel like they're living in 219-2020 they're still struggling to get basic services we as we were they were experiencing up to 6 hours a day of electricity cuts roads are dangerous hospitals are under for an affordable unemployment the country of lebanon a tiny country of 4000000 people has the 3rd highest debt to g.d.p. ratio in the world so people are just are done and they feel like you know at this point they deserve better and they've given the system what they're telling me enough their generation and their parents or their grandparents and they're done with it they're fed up and in particular they're fed up with the sectarian system on the other hand this is a system that was put in place to reflect and respect all of lebanon's ethnic and religious groups to make sure that they are included so how can they push forward with where forms but also remain inclusive i mean i've been on is really a unique country in the middle east no other country has this kind of diversity and the sectarian political system was an experiment to try and make that happen i
3:24 pm
don't think anybody i have spoken to is necessarily against the idea of inclusion they just say that this particular iteration of the system has not brought them what they want instead it has been used by politicians to further foster division. they say it i mean we mentioned in the report that this you know parliament is divided government high political offices are divided but also you know the sectarianism goes in in you know giving the public jobs for example so in ministries and in the public sector a lot of the protesters said you know this has fostered such a client to lose them that a functioning public services system for all of the needs is just coming as 5th or 6th or 7th priority and not being put in the forefront and they want to you know try something different and i also feel like there's a generation like burned in the country to relate with the trauma of the civil war anymore and they don't relate they don't remember that they don't see a need for themselves to be divided by their sectarian identity 1st in the way that
3:25 pm
they vote and in being that been used 2nd they just don't have that memory anymore ok so this is a big shift in generations there just just quickly do you think we've seen any progress under the new government well this government really has you know 2 to kind of problems to deal with they have the this huge task to save lebanon out of. a crisis so they're not getting in a correct you know an easy they're not coming in with an easy task but also you know there's a there's a lack of trust from the streets in this government precisely because in its formation they saw a lot of the old maneuverings between parties and so it remains to be seen it's just been one week since they've been in place all right abraham reporting for us thank you so much for sharing that story with us. now a british enduring swimmer has braved the freezing temperatures under the east and arctic ice sheet to raise awareness about polar climate change lewis pugh who's the
