can impact waiting their citizens from china germany is now one of them a plane carrying the german nationals touching down in frankfurt just moments ago we'll get the latest from our correspondent. i'm calling aspen thanks for joining us after several years of political drama and domestic turmoil britain is finally out of the european union at the stroke of midnight brussels time the u.k. ended nearly a half century of membership in the e.u. but bracks it is still not a done deal the 2 sides now begin an 11 month transition period and the difficult work of finding the terms of a new relationship. ringing in the changes a recording of big ben bond in bret's it at the prime minister's residence in
6:02 pm
downing street just up the road celebrations began over britain's exit from the e.u. in parliament square with this passion but the country is still driven by that you see something prime minister boris johnson try to counter with a positive message for the future. jobs the government my job is to bring this country together take us what the most important thing to say tonight is that this is not but the beginning and the cracks it is like nigel who fought a long campaign to take the u.k. out of the e.u. set triumphalist tone. i believe here's 3. trade moves and then there's 3 i think. as the day dawned on a new u.k. the newspaper headlines marked the moment in history and almost half a century of e.u. you take corporation but the nation is far from united some voice their sense of
6:03 pm
loss it's a great tragedy. for my life a bit in your opinion my grandfather fortune was in europe we thought that was all over we thought we would be one continent at peace. and harmony and now it feels to me. it was a fearless peaceful as it should be while others felt for the vigor what some call freedom or excitement returning to the days before the e.u. . i feel absolutely delighted. and i feel that's probably peculiar to my generation but if we live to move to push the place it's undeniable that breaks it has exposed a huge division in british politics but the show of the nation and tribalism in the u.k. on this the point of departure from the e.u. indicates that the debate over its place in europe is far from settled. and as this
6:04 pm
video message projected on dover's white cliffs by pro remain pressure group led by donkey's put it there is even now hope that perhaps the u.k. might one day return. well joining me now is the correspondent in london for us we saw there last night celebrations in the streets by leaves supporters at least is there still a party atmosphere today on day one. no but there are very mixed emotions still i would say of course those that a joyful and happy and those are the bricks that supporters and including the government of boris johnson of course and they were celebrating all throughout the night yesterday and then of course on the other side there are a lot of devastated people those who wanted to remain in the european union and that just doesn't change now that it has become the reality i saw
6:05 pm
a lot of people actually put european flags out of their windows today to mark this asian and to show they're still solidarity with the european union i think in la a large part of the country you can feel that there is the relief some pragmatism that the feeling now that the issue of brics it is once and for all settled so that the country can move on from the rifts that breaks it has cost of course they can move on but there's still a lot of work to be done prime minister boris johnson promise to make an incredible success what happens now what are the next steps for the u k. well boris johnson himself is painting a very bright future for the u.k.'s off a global britain that can try its own trade deals especially with the european union and he says they are going to be prosperous and positive times ahead but of course the reality is much more complicated and nobody really knows what's in store so for now he still in place until the end of 2020 nothing really has changed it
6:06 pm
was a symbolic divorce yesterday and now the u.k. has to strike that trade deal with the european union they have not even a year and trade experts already say that it's next to impossible so many things have to be discussed and renegotiated and if that doesn't happen if there is no deal in place of course the u.k. would face another cliff edge scenario leaving without rules and regulations so there are it's a very very tough year for negotiating in britain charlotta we saw those leave supporters partying in the streets as you mentioned there were european union flags being flown by remain supporters there are clearly still divisions within britain how will prime minister johnson go about healing those wounds well he said he wants to reunite the country yesterday in his address to mock this occasion but it's going to be very very difficult i mean we have to remember that
6:07 pm
pods of the country still want to remain a member of the european union that doesn't change with the divorce for example of scotland a region that has voted to remain in the european union and there are calls for scottish independence so they can then rejoin the european union so boris johnson will have a very tough a tough task at hand there reuniting the country and it's facing really many challenges in the next months and years ahead. reporting in london thank you very much. well more countries are confirming cases of the new corona virus that is infected almost $12000.00 people in china and killed at least $259.00 those countries include sweden russia and the u.k. and here in germany a military plane with more than $100.00 people on board as landed in frankfurt the german government says there are no confirmed or even suspected cases onboard but it's not taking any chances the passengers are going through a series of checks at
6:08 pm
a specially built medical assessment center on site at the airport if anyone is found to be infected with the coronavirus they will then be transferred to frankfurt's university hospital. we'll get more on this now i'm joined in studio by our political correspondent simon young no simon as we heard many countries started to move their citizens out of china germany now doing the same today with this plane landing in frankfurt do we know who's on that plane and what's going to happen to them now that they've landed now that they're back in germany. 124 people were brought back on this military boss to frankfurt the soft moon that's just over 100 german citizens and. their family members some of them anyway from various nationalities and those people as you say. confirmed as not having any symptoms not being sick when they got on the plane but of course it's important because those
6:09 pm
symptoms could develop in the in the 12 hours or so that they've been traveling. again and that's what's been happening and those that are said to be still clear of the virus at the moment will then be taken to corn 1902 will there be health for 14 days and the government saying this is a precautionary measure it's part of the cautious approach that the government is taking the health minister gets on has been speaking earlier and we can have a listen to a little bit of what he said about some shorts in order to protect the evacuees themselves their families and also the german population it's important we ensure nobody is infected as the month. it is but there is an incubation period of up to 2 weeks for these virus during which no symptoms yet feasible but in fiction may still be present in order to be able to exclude these quarantine is necessary
6:10 pm
joining this period in which it was i mean clearly germany is taking this seriously no no suspected cases at least no symptoms by anyone on the plane and yet they're likely to be quarantined tell talk about how germ is handling that they're taking this seriously well yes seriously and as i say very cautiously the health minister also said in that press conference that you know if people accuse him later of being overcautious that's just only by him and you know you could say it's a bit ridiculous a plane load of healthy people arrives at frankfurt airport something that happens many times every day but just to just to be sure because those still not so much experience with exactly how this virus looks how it can develop and so to have these people in a place where they can be monitored where they can be treated immediately obviously for their own health but to keep the wife from the general population it's also
6:11 pm
poets of dealing with any potential spread of panic we've seen a lot of people buying up face most in germany so i think the government just wants to demonstrate that it's got the situation under control all right of course there are confirmed cases in germany so they are taking precautions do you correspondence i mean young thank you so much. or let's turn now to the controversial middle east peace plan being proposed by u.s. president donald trump the plan is seen as favoring israel and on saturday it was rejected at a meeting of the arab league in cairo a palestinian president mahmoud abbas has gone further he's cutting all ties with israel and the u.s. including security relations plan has also sparked protests among palestinians who strongly rejected the plan proposes a palestinian state and recognition of israeli settlements in the occupied west bank. was going to some perspective now i'm joined by a correspondent in jerusalem tanya kramer tanya 1st of all how significant is this
6:12 pm
. was stopping the security coordination would be significant because it would change the situation on the ground in the occupied west bank having said that the palestinian president mahmoud abbas has warned previous times that he would stop security coordination so we have to wait and see whether he will implement this this time i think what's also significant is that he got the support of the arab league in which acting the plan and the initial responses by many of the arab states very rather muted except for jordan and this time they say they're rejecting this so there seems that there's no brick support for this charm. well i want to ask you a bit more about what it means to suspend relations with israel and the us i mean you mentioned double change the situation on the ground what does this really mean in practice. well be a token year especially about security relations on the one hand palestinians have
6:13 pm
already cut off their diplomatic ties with the u.s. administration since december 2017 when president chum recognized jerusalem as the capital of israel they kept. relations with the u.s. intelligence agencies and other security agencies so we understand dece ones could be cut off as well and then we're told can you know about security coordination with is about that's on the ground in the occupied west bank between israeli and palestinian security agencies that is a very controversial topic also among the palestinian public that has been in the past so ready lot of pressure. to cut off or to stop this security coordination president abbas had always you know not you know he has always said he keeps this so we have to wait and see whether he will go ahead now in stopping them and it
6:14 pm
