a few surprises on his singing. please take this message back to your. he called venezuela as a physician the deaf one quite joe who was watching from the gallery the legitimate president of venezuela the best is yet to come thank you but is trauma true to a close it was what was going on behind him that stole the show nancy pelosi ripping up his speech the bitter feud between the 2 boiling over once again. as we just heard trump focused mostly on domestic policies he did however mention a couple of foreign policy issues as well one example the ongoing tensions with iran solicits in recent months we have seen prouder rain ians raise their voices against their oppressive rulers the arabian regime must abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons stop spreading terror death and destruction and start working for

the good of its own people because of our powerful sanctions the iranian economy is doing very very poorly we can help them make a very good and short time recovery it can all go very quickly but perhaps they are too proud or too foolish to ask for that help we are here let's see which road they choose it is totally up to them. let's see which road they choose well from our asia desk bearish bad energy is with is he was following his speech as well of course good to see you bearish what kind of message is trump sending to iran with those comments from medicare message terry the strategy of maximum pressure is going to continue once a strategy that is designed to bring it on to the talks table to negotiate on u.s. dom's of course here the biggest option is that iran is going to do that because what's happening with the strategy of maximum pressure is that the hardliners in

the avian regime are getting more and they are moving away from the west which is not what doesn't rouhani the president of iran wanted remember he really signed up to do it in the nuclear deal which the u.s. you know left really walked away from and all of this is happening in an election year not just for the united states but also for it on which holds legislative elections this month so therefore the pressure is on on both sides to show a hard face a hard stance so one should not be expecting a thaw in relations between both countries any time soon ok that was a rare and he did touch on a couple of other countries he took the opportunity to talk about china in his speech the trade war between washington and beijing has featured prominently in the trump presidency so far here's what he had to say about that i also promised our citizens that i would impose tariffs to confront giant is massive theft of americans. our strategy has worked days ago we cited the groundbreaking new

agreement with china that will defend our workers protect our intellectual property bring billions and billions of dollars into our treasury and open vast new markets for products made and grown right here in the usa. here's u.s. relations with china have changed significantly during the trumpet ministration what are the implications of these changes for other countries in the region terry u.s. relations with china have been central to u.s. policy in the wider region which is generally called defeat an open indo-pacific if you like i can in the morning. the trade wall with china and that donald trump began which is seen some sort of progress with the phase $13.00 d. between china and the united states has taken up so much attention that it's taken over we from what this if all ip was trying to achieve it was to build up some sort
10:08 am
of an alliance of coalition between india and australia japan for example along with the united states to come to chinese influence in asia not much attention has been bid to that instead if the us china treats but that's taken up all the time talking about paying attention the state of the union address of course everyone in the united states watches it here on the side of the atlantic to get some attention but what about an asia to people there watch it do they care about it honestly terry no it's not on the on the viewing agenda for ordinary people in asia but of course for governments it is very important bit in mind that the us is the only come to read that is possible in shotgun plea to china and therefore what the us presidency is in the state of the union does provide some hints as to what the euro could be for those countries so therefore for governments obviously it's important but not so much for people 1st thanks for your insights bearish bettany from our asia desk. now to some of the other stories making headlines around the world today partial results in the iowa caucus show democrat pete booted church in the lead

munich for the shareholder meeting stated why is siemens such a focus for climate activists. well terry is exactly that australian project that you mentioned that's one of the biggest reasons that an 18000000 euro project that the c.e.o. of siemens had suggested was under a rethink due to the climate activists then that c.e.o. joe kayser turned around and said well actually we're going forward with it that after his board of directors voted unanimously to continue it and he came back and said look if we had gone if we had moved out of this contract it would have cost us big time that would not have been good for the company climate activists have shown little understanding for that their message here today i spoke with one of the head climate activists marshall she's going to speak at the gathering she said her message is take responsibility and do it now the challenge of course is that responsibility is seen differently from siemens they believe they have a responsibility to their employees and to their shareholders so there is this
10:13 am
conflict here of the urgency of now versus what surely takes a long time for a massive company such as the 385000 employees they say look we can't do it overnight climate activists say you need to ok there's a lot of discussion of course in business circles about shareholder value versus stakeholder value that's a shareholders' meeting they're. saying in place what do shareholders make all of this. you know we talk to some of the shareholders were flooding in here just moments ago a lot of them actually they're private shareholders they represent actually minority in this shareholder group 21 percent of all shareholders for siemens are private shareholders the motion holders are big institutional groups pension funds things like that but the private shareholders that we spoke to a lot of them showed understanding for what these climate activists want they say look we understand but some of them said you know there are jobs that we're talking
10:14 am
about here there is value that's behind this company we can't just suddenly start doing away with these massive projects it takes time others have just sort of rolled their eyes and said look at giving these these kind of protests or here every year they'll be here every year is always in the spotlight it really depends on who you talk to it's worth mentioning that blackrock a big financial asset manager they're also a big investor here so. they have to say stephen thank you so much stephen beardsley from d.w. business in munich in rugby the 2021 women's world cup will be held in new zealand bringing the final to the southern hemisphere for the very 1st time organizers are hoping the 5 time champions new zealand squad will draw crowds comparable to the men's final in the country in 2011 the last women's rugby world cup took place in ireland setting records for attendance and television audiences the draw for the tournament will be held later this year.
