2:09 pm
wednesday's events in the eastern state of touring here lawmakers from locals c.d.u. party sided with the far right alternative for germany to elect a new state premier of the regional government shattering a german post war political to boot against cooperating with far right parties the political maneuver has found widespread national outrage and hundreds of protesters have gathered outside today's meeting. and they have a new political correspondent kate brady is outside that meeting she joins me now kate what's going on there so far what's the object objective of these crisis talks . well the main objective of this meeting going on behind me in the chancellery right now will be to find some clarity really and a plan of how to move forward after this week's debacle now the s.p.d. the social democrats will be putting a lot of pressure on the conservative c.d.u. today the s.p.d. wants to see fresh elections in the ring but the c.d.u.
2:10 pm
has really struggled so far to make clear exactly where the party stands with even the party leader on a credit crunch karrenbauer seemingly pedaling backwards pedaling on her initial calls for fresh elections saying now that the time should also be taken to possibly find an alternative solution to get out of this deadlock in the engine kate chancellor angela merkel has criticised the events in calling them a grave mistake now she's just returned from an official visit to africa can she sort out this debacle. well if you look at some of the action already being taken it certainly seems that she is taking some action already she's over we heard earlier today that she is now fire commissioner for easten germany. and that was after he rather prematurely celebrated the appointment of thomas chemical of the pro-business free democrats as the new state crimea in the 3rd
2:11 pm
earlier this week and of course he told his chemical was appointed with the support of the far right f.t. which is the very crux of this crisis which is going on right now and of course this crisis has damaged the leadership of the city you currently on a great. excuse me. how what's what's what does this say about her leadership. well this certainly is a huge blow yet again to a k.k. as she's known over here she's come under fire on a further on previous occasions in recent months for political gags for lack of authority and that is really what she's been accused of once again this time especially by the s.p.d. by the social democrats who are asking who is leading the c.d.u.
2:12 pm
right now it seems that the c.d.u. in theory cross the party line in cooperating with the far right a.f.g. and she's made it clear time and time again and again this week saying that the party line in the c.d.u. is to not cooperate with the far right a.f.g. and also to not cooperate with the far left with the delinquent either and it seems that that is simply not been the case in thuringia and so the s.p.d. the social democrats are really calling into question right now exactly how much authority she has over her party and of course looking ahead at a national level to the national elections which are set to take place in 2021 and i can certainly come as a huge blow yet again to her chances of leaving the conservative c.d.u. into those elections and the hopes of following. into the chancellery what effect will this political crisis have on the national german government.
2:13 pm
well at the moment it seems that the government is very much stable the s.p.d. although put they've been putting a lot of pressure on their coalition partners the c.d.u. they've said that they're ready and willing to continue with this coalition but of course that could certainly change and that will depend on how they see. is resolved in the coming weeks whether we see fresh elections in turin jia and how a.k.k. the party leader of the conservatives kind of carries out her or thoresby in the coming weeks but of course if you look beyond the government and also to vote this is certainly motivated and hit home with a lot of voters as well this week within minutes of of that appointment being announced earlier this week protesters flocks to the f.t.p. headquarters here in berlin and earlier this morning just behind me there were also demonstrates is condemning the cooperation between the conservative c.d.u.
2:14 pm
arms the far right a.f.d. in the ring this is certainly the 1st political crisis for this government in a while that has really hit hard not only at the federal political level but also with voters not only in the ring 0 where this crisis really broke out but across germany and of course here in the heart of germany in berlin pretty cool correspondent kate brady thank you. when the president of france as i say sports federation guy again has stepped down amid an ongoing sexual abuse scandal in figure skating the sport has experienced an unprecedented crisis that was triggered when sarah ball a former world champion bronze medalist published autobiography earlier this week in it she accused her former coach of raping her several times from 190-2992 the outgoing president announced his decision to resign a. for
