threats on facebook the social media network has removed his account it's thought the gunman is still at large inside the shopping center. mall on this developing story i'm joined here in the studio by d.w. reporter we have no earthly across to what he wanted to see i mean what is the latest that you're learning that's coming up on 2 am in thailand so this has been going on now for almost 12 hours about 3 30 pm that this shooting started in the city of coretta's a few hours northeast of of bangkok oh we're looking at at least 20 dead at least 31 injured the police say that they have the mall secured and under control and that everyone's been evacuated but the gunman is still large there could be a hostage situation oil we're not quite sure because the gunman has not been detained yet by by police there are reports that they're bringing in his mother actually to try to negotiate with him to try to reason with him and get him to.

surrender again whether it's hostages or not not clear but it is clear that he is still holed up in this mall all right we've just been seeing some live pictures as well all the cordoned off area outside that shopping center have authorities said anything else about the attack and yeah he's been quite well publicized he's been called a 32 year old army sergeant a thai army sergeant in fact that's where he's got his guns reportedly that he stole them from the army base he was on starting in a village actually outside the city apparently shooting his commanding officer and then going to a buddhist temple and then going to the mall where this has escalated to. as far as motive they are mentioning something about a land dispute a post he made were screeds about corruption in the country but it's very unclear what exactly his motives is that's going to have to be away yeah you just touched on the fact that he had been posting in fact on facebook what can you tell us about some of that he was apparently live streaming the shooting which is something we've seen as

a feature in these kinds of terrible of bands but facebook seem to be pretty quick in shutting down his account shutting down the stream and facebook actually perhaps a statement expressing their condolences to the families and those affected and he was posting throughout at least up until a few hours ago posting live while he was holed up in this mall in fact at one point apparently complaining about his trigger finger was hurting him so certainly not someone who is showing much remorse but police in thailand have used social media to get the word of who this person is and try to gather more information right ok and another disturbing development which we have seen in other previous attacks where you know who crossed thanks a lot. now u.s. media say that an american man has died of the coronavirus the us is in died in a hospital in the chinese city of new home where the outbreak 1st began it is the 1st no the corona related death of a 9 known a chinese person in china and here in europe in a french mountain town authorities there say that 5 british interests have been

coalition wants new state elections is that the solution to all of this well it certainly seems that we are going to see new elections. that demand has come from in or the highest position from the government governing coalition but it really doesn't seem that that might solve this problem it could still come to a very similar result we've been looking at some polls today and even now there is one coalition that looks most likely and that's between the greens and the left posse and the social democrats now that would be very very close majority if they managed to make it over that 50 percent hurdle that said if they don't they need the support of the conservative c.d.u. and the problem which we saw here as well if we go back a few months is that the c.d.u. does not want to support dealing to the left party as it has its own links the former communist party of former east germany so they have their own issues with

the link as much as they have issues with the far right a.f.p. so it could be that even after these new elections in within probably a couple of months time there could still be sat here very much like the politicians in 3rd and rayna are wringing our hands and wondering how do we go forward from here we might well indeed but for now who comes out worst from all of this well it certainly seems that it's the leader of the c.d.u. the leader of the conservative party and a click a.k.k. who's come out west here her or foresee this week has very much been brought into question and of course it was her party. their decision to overstep the step of the party line and cooperate with the far right after which started all of this this big debacle which is played on for the entire week and so this isn't really looking good for her candidacy ahead of the 2021 elections either she was hoping to follow in mackerels footsteps of be the candidate for the
