this is g.w. newsline from berlin tonight the details of china's crackdown on its muslim minority leaders this leaked document exposes and trying is a big lie that we viewers are simply attending vocational training camps at the w. investigations seems to confirm what the world has long suspected that we girls are being imprisoned simply because they are muslims also coming up a fresh bid to stop the brutal civil war in libya the conflict is still awash with weapons now the european union has agreed to renew

a naval mission in forcing the view an arms embargo but will it be enough and her bear awaits a victory the caps that it is will meet some truly fancy felines at vietnam's 1st national. cat show. i'm bringing off it's good to have you with us a document leaked to the w. news seems to expose china's mistreatment of its muslim minority people the chinese government claims that camps housing we are simply giving them skills training but the united nations believes as many as 1000000 we are being held in camps in the shingi region in the west of the country chinese authorities claim the people are there out of their own free will. they're receiving vocational training to help

fight extremism but d.-w. news and its german media partners in the yard to be the r. and b. german daily newspaper the so i too they all have evidence that contradicts china's narrative it seems to confirm what many have long suspected that china is putting wiggers in prison based on their religion and their culture the only conrad to be w.'s investigative unit reports. i would never have found out that my sister is an account without this least lugger the boy the. it's a detailed surveillance document it's extremely likely that this is authentic yes it's dangerous but someone should tell the world what's going on there. is stumble. here on the wall. these men now we get muslims
10:03 pm
from china back home they could be imprisoned for the simple act of praying i quickly come to realize that each one of them has a story of loss. the fascist chinese government wants to eliminate that we got people in john the entire population of john right in front of the eyes of the world. we ask them to raise their hands if they have family members who've been imprisoned in china's province where most weekends live. across chin jiang dozens of camps holding up to a 1000000 week. let's take a closer look at one of them face is a reeducation camp next to a prison. we identified watch towers and high walls. that countless camps like this one the chinese
10:04 pm
government claims they are fallen tree vocational training centers designed to fight we get stream it's. true but we received a document which shows that china is targeting weak is based on the identity and religion it lists hundreds of detainees and the reasons for their detention are. posted weak academic up to we perceived it from a source and took a huge risk sharing it with us. or. january 8 or you can see the phone call like it's messenger call and. he said
10:05 pm
stop doing this and the b. can reach you there are where you are yes it's the dress but someone should take the danger someone should speak up someone should tell the world what's going on. 5 the document doesn't have any stamp or signature we showed it to several experts who agreed that it is almost certainly an official text. me it contains an enormous amount of extremely specific. data from one very small community in engine john and that. it would take an immense amount of effort and access to publicly unavailable data to fabricate a document like this in this neighborhood in istanbul where many we live we met one woman whose sister some mentioned on the list. but since that talked you knew some
10:06 pm
family members had been imprisoned but it shocked her when she found out to tell younger sister was listed in the document called mbeki had a little girl i was really sad for days i couldn't sleep. i was really shocked. and sad about her arrest. ok i'll call them. china says it's fighting extremism but talked he says her younger sister wasn't religious her only crime she had too many children along all of them i heard that the conditions in prison are unimaginably bad they don't even have enough food to eat oh. well. she doesn't know for relatives have been released like countless are the leaders they have been caught up in china's all encompassing antiterrorism
10:07 pm
drive. and joining me here in the studio is my colleague naomi conrad from the w.'s investigative unit talk about this documents year and what exactly does it show it's a really chilling document because it shows that basically it doesn't take much for you to be whisked away you can have a beer that's too long where veil or maybe even it's just a wife who wears a veil also shows how compassing the surveillance system in china is the authorities know whether you have relatives abroad they know if you talk to them they know how often every day you pray i mean it's all pervasive and that's what this document shows so it's really pretty chilling we're talking about this document the hell do we know how do we verify the authenticity of this document that was a job that took us several weeks actually i mean we received these 140 odd pages in chinese that the 1st step was to translate them into english and we said the document with various leading scholars who will agree that it was most likely
10:08 pm
authentic and then the next step was to find relatives of the people on the list we obviously couldn't talk to those people because that would put them in danger and some people are still imprisoned there we managed to find several relatives talk to them they corrupt corroborated what was in the list and then we also try to locate and verify the counts that the people were sent to that i mentioned in the list we managed to verify 2 of the camps and also find the most likely location of the 2 other camps so we do believe that it is most likely on authentic what have we learned about the feet of the detainees i mean we know that the details are unprecedented what happened to them we know that some people were released but they weren't released into freedom they were released back into their community where they're most likely very very closely monitored some people might not even be allowed to move around freely we also know that some of the detainees were released into labor camps that could be those could be factories in their villages they could also be factories in camps but they're most likely forced labor force in
10:09 pm
factories so yes. you know that even if they were released them very very. official reaction from the chinese government which he managed to talk to the chinese foreign minister when he was here last week take a look at that. no one has seen any kind of concentration camp and. no one has seen any persecution the only thing to see was people of various ethnicities and living together harmoniously these facts demonstrate that the so-called concentration camps the so-called 1000000 are 100 percent rumors they are complete fake news fake. news i mean the wind we been hearing now for years. it didn't come as a surprise i mean they've been calling these camps voluntary for quite a while and it was very unlikely that they 10 rounds and that should tell us the
10:10 pm
truth so it didn't come as a surprise but it's just you know. the narrative that we've been hearing hearing for quite a while i mean it's one thing. expose something that's going on in china and it's another thing to affect change and what are the chances that the plight of the week will be improved at all by the world knowing what's going on well a lot depends on governments right i mean the members of the european parliament not that long ago called for targeted sanctions exactly what the united states did but we have to remember that european german companies are doing business and. producing cars there so you know the german industry and the european industry also has a very important say in this. is always known we appreciate your reporting thank you . the european union has agreed on a new naval mission to monitor the un embargo on arms shipments to libya the
10:11 pm
country is riven by the standoff between fighters loyal to the u.s. backed government in tripoli and rebel groups which control much of the rest of the country the civil war has been raging for 6 years now in libya is awash with weapons despite that you win embargo the new e.u. military patrol replace the current naval mission which is known as sophia. following discord over measures to help stabilize libya e.u. foreign ministers have reached an agreement critics were outspoken austria wanted to block a new naval mission for fear it would encourage more migrants to attempt crossing the mediterranean as they try to make their way to europe. and 1st the sophia mission in the mediterranean off the coast of libya will be stopped secondly we've agreed that we want to military mission and not a humanitarian one and it will focus on the arms embargo the task of the original even naval missions sophia was to fight arms trafficking and people smuggling but
10:12 pm
it frequently rescued refugees at sea the new mission will involve aerial as well as naval assets primarily in the east mediterranean that's where there is more arms trafficking and fewer refugee routes the naval mission will be ended if ships continue to take in migrants. it's fundamentally important that the european union acknowledges its responsibility to take action and play a role in ensuring the arms embargo will no longer be violated that's what's required to end the civil war in libya. and at 1st but it's not clear if this new plan will bring the desired results the details of the mission have yet to be worked out. authorities are scrambling to trace passengers who disembarked from a cruise liner in cambodia after one woman later tested positive for the corona virus code 19 around 2000 people were cleared and allowed to disembark from the westerdam liner in cambodia after being denied entry at several ports but one
