a video 6 years ago so we have all this incredible amount of detail which also documents to what extent china is surveilling its citizens that the way goes into i mean this document shows that they know how from someone prays that they know whether someone's father goes to a mosque regularly it's a it's a chilling document and it's astounding in the level of details now. reporters have been covering this for some time now this is fantastic evidence of course but what has the international community said about this and have they done anything about this so far they haven't done very much i mean the members of the european parliament came out recently calling for targeted sanctions which is something that's also happened in the united states but europe in particular and also germany has been quite tight lipped but we also have to remember that china is hugely important economically german companies to a producing or even sourcing from to junk so it's difficult at this point it seems

for european countries for germany to come out to explicitly but of course many of the weak activists that we've also talked to are hoping for some kind of reaction following the story now there's other big news coming out of china these days the coronavirus and i can't help but sort of put the 2 next to each other you have the detention camps inching jan and then you have the lockdown of tens of millions of people as a result of the coronavirus what do you think it says about the country i think it says a lot of. government control about what kind of earth's a valence state this is i mean we're seeing a lot of reports about to what extent china is using facial recognition technology to monitor where people who've been to corrode infected areas where they're going where they've been and this is exactly the same technology that's being used in to jiang to monitor people's every move so i think what connects these 2 stories is basically china's all pervasive surveillance state and any response from the

chinese government none so far we were able to talk to the chinese foreign minister who was in berlin last week we obviously confronted him with the allegations and he called it was a fake news and we can read thank you. more than 73000 people have been infected with the coronavirus in china making the 60 or so cases in hong kong still a separate territory for the virus count small by comparison but residents there remember the deadly sars virus in 2003 and while the city is not under lockdown in the way we're seeing in the rest of china vigilance is. chosen pill. exhausted but relieved the nightmare that in and last week these residents were pulled from their beds in the middle of the night after 2 people living floors apart tested positive for code that 19. is the boyers could be traveling through
