this is deja vu news live from berlin hundreds of passengers leave a cruise ship it by the coronavirus after 2 weeks and quarantine in japan it's time for some to finally go home but was the decision to detain passengers in the 1st place a mistake or ask an expert also coming up. a turkish court acquits 9 anti-government activists in a landmark case but one is rearrested right away on what's being called politically

motivated charges. and lucky to be alive despite the dangers many people are still trying to reach europe in the overcrowded boats we report from our rescue ship trying to save them plus. 16 how much is it $101.00 i know a place within walking distance is it safe i always go there. why are so many children working as prostitutes in the colombian city of cartagena d.w. goes undercover to find. i'm brian thomas great to have you with us today the death toll from the corona virus has. now past 2000 and the virus has spread to more than 20 countries around
9:02 am
the world on 5 continents more than 74000 people have been infected now the vast majority of them or of course in mainland china where the virus was 1st detected back in december of last year but new cases in china they've been dropping for 2 days in a row that according to beijing outside of china more than 1000 cases have now been confirmed the biggest cluster of these cases has been here aboard the cruise ship the diamond princess it's been in quarantine in the japanese port of yokohama for 2 weeks but now hundreds who have tested negative for the virus have started leaving the ship and are returning to their home countries. what went wrong on board the diamond princess passengers who tested negative for the corona virus are finally being allowed to leave now questions are being asked about how the floating
9:03 am
quarantine facility became an incubator for disease. but obviously the situation of the grossest changed and clearly there's been more transmission than expected on the ship and i think the authorities in japan are adjusting to that reality now when the cruise ship 1st arrived in yokohama 10 passengers tested positive for the virus 2 weeks later more than 500 had been infected it'll be very important to study this particular event and see what the issues have been that have led to transmission to to the to the people who've been on that ship other health experts say the ship has been a failed experiment in containment and want the air filtration and waste disposal systems tested as possible modes of transmission some on board described it as a floating prison one british couple shared their experiences through online videos
9:04 am
and. we're doing ok we conditioning is still getting us down we've turned off the humidifier leaving the door open but we've closed that so damn cold. shortly after they announced they tested positive for corona virus and would be moved to a hospital. thousands still remain on the diamond princess those being evacuated now face up to 2 weeks more quarantine in their home countries. for more i'm joined now by professor archie clements he's an infectious disease specialist at curtin university in perth australia thank you very much for joining us today on this ship has been called a floating petri dish weren't health officials aware that keeping people on board pose a very high health risks for them. well yes so. what you get on a cruise ship is you get
9:05 am
a high concentration of large numbers of people many of whom are elderly or aging many of whom have. other health conditions so i mean i think that's probably a you know i think that's pretty apt description i mean you know in some ways a salute similar to a hospital where you have large concentrations of people in one place elderly people or it on average older than the general population with significant health conditions and in hospitals you also say you know similar transmission of infectious diseases. i guess the challenges in some ways are similar if you would about the people that are still on boards or cells of people people so on board what type of risk are they facing right now. well obviously they're much higher risk than the general population for it to to become infected with the crowd a virus simply live much of the fact that they are kept in close proximity with
9:06 am
other people who have been infected so. so certainly the risk of becoming infected is much higher on the stand that if they have become infected if they become ill have been taken off the ship and given medical care. but nonetheless they're at significant risk it i also understand that the health already is doing everything they can to prevent transmission on the ship keeping people in isolation wearing face masks. you know minimizing contact between passengers and crew and other personnel. obviously you know the numbers speak for themselves out of 500 people infected so that is. those mechanisms for preventing spread have obviously not contained the epidemic particularly well ok when we look at those numbers can we say anything about what the experience of the people aboard the diving princess has taught us or is teaching us about how this virus spreads.
9:07 am
well that's i guess that's probably a topic for a post-mortem for a day in examination once the once the epidemics behind us. but certainly i think you know a number of decisions that were taken will be scrutinized including keeping people in the ship in close proximity with each other for an extended period of time. the pup there you know the effectiveness of the of the of the response on the ship in terms of how well people were kept isolated from each other. how people were managed when they became ill. the personnel that went on to the ship site medical and medical personnel and the approaches that they took to protect themselves and health today where all of those things will need to be considered in retrospect and hopefully learn from when it ok the next sympathetic now regarding the people returning to their home countries to where you are for example australia is it safe
9:08 am
for the general population that they're going back to. well i'm comfortable with the arrangements that the starting government to put in place for people coming back to a struggle so they've been they're being flown to. a. to i guess you'd call it a camp in the northern territory where they will be kept in isolation from the from the rest of the population for 2 week period which should be sufficient time to ensure that anyone who is carrying the virus but hasn't yet displayed clinical signs will be detected prior to being released into the general population i think that's a reasonable approach and as i understand it many of the people who are returning to australia are satisfied with that and i don't want to be the vehicle for the transmission of the virus from. the creation to the general population in australia and i think a similar approach is being taken in some other countries i think it's reasonable i mean it is in many ways unprecedented. that this sort of thing hasn't been done.
9:09 am
before certainly not in modern times and you know where i think all that is we go. but i certainly think the decision to bring people back and to keep them in isolation. you know a lot of population area fairly distant from the large populations and as a started to me seems like a sensible decision professor archie clements infectious disease specialist at curtin university in person strella thanks very much for coming in you're welcome thank you it's to turkey now where celebrations over the unexpected release of anti-government protesters have been dampened by the rearrest of one prominent prominent activist 9 protesters charged over the 2013 and the government gazey park demonstrations were freed from jail but the outspoken philanthropist. was immediately ordered back into detention the new charges. reporters waited for

haftar stepped up attacks on the colombian libyan capital tripoli hitting its strategic port rebel groups now control most of the country. while off the coast of libya and n.-g. o. ship the ocean viking has rescued 182 people they're among thousands of migrants still trying to reach europe by making the dangerous journey across the mediterranean and often overcrowded small vessels the ocean viking is operated by doctors without borders and another in geo they say the migrants are lucky to be alive drugs or fish as more. from the deck of the rescue ship ocean fighting nicholas romaniuk is scanning the sea for a boat with migrants on board. the ocean viking is about 130 kilometers off the libyan coast that means it's in international waters.
9:13 am
we have a look for a possible what a boat with 0 acts of war. if you have a visual border control pilots are in radio contact. so while the border patrol is searching the area with small aircraft or helicopters they say they think the spotted the migrant boat going to people on board 3. iraqi. leader. the migrants boat is now clearly visible. thought about the degree of. rescue doing these are ready to be deployed tom he is one of the most experienced stuff when it comes to see rescues even though he tells his colleagues what he knows about the refugees so far. from the mission begins that.
9:14 am
can put the electic did that with. the 2 rescue doing is set off for the migrants boat along with the ship in some ports and it's not to rush this part of the operation to take time to assess the situation. at the wooden migrant boat is overloaded with 84 passengers all young men. went into that they might stand up and become agitated and to pose for the boat is a big concern. that's why the 1st thing they are getting a life vests. all the way but it will take 3 trips back and forth to get all the migrants on board the oceans like you. most of them are from bangladesh morocco and somalia with a few from algeria and the gambia 21 are under 18 years old they came along without

parents all relatives. and. well you know that. the migrants are also addressed in arabic and other languages every single person will be examined by the doctor. never the dangerously i've been brought up. with the like you know where there is crime and what it's like now let's look at the kind of business if you believe me about that that they thought but it's often done that in my monthly but it's happened to us and back. to my god and that's a. week but now since the happy to be alive. correspond we are drug sources on board the ocean viking which is off the libyan
9:16 am
coast right now good day to you mary could you tell us what happens next for the migrants we we just saw in that report now aboard the ocean viking in the past countries like italy and malta have refused to allow the ocean viking's passengers on board to land in their ports. well right now it's a little bit too early to speculate about it too early and. mentioned i think we continue to look out for more boats in distress last flight it was quite new although distress calls what happens next was events on the weather if the weather did deteriorates people cannot launch their boats from the coast of libya because the wind comes from north then we may send a request for a safe port in italy on multiple somewhere else the doc but i think this is really to early to speculate right now i don't have a crystal ball here the situation can change very fast at c f as we have seen your
9:17 am
survey when we had to rescue operations i have spoken to nicholas or manual from many tony who is in charge of the boss the search and rescue operation on board and he told me that the ocean viking will continue to patrol the course in international waters off the coast of libya so we have to be ready to see more rescue operations in the hours to come ok no there's been an increase in the fighting in libya the situation there becoming increasingly unstable one of the people aboard the ocean viking been saying to you are are they expecting more refugees from libya one of the things going to be happening in the months ahead in terms of the flow of people leaving libyan shores. well i think they expect more people to come especially because as you said the station in libya is not getting better but in the end what the engine not out is talk about
9:18 am
politics it's about saving lives you will find all kinds of people here are on board among the assessment on the doctors without borders in a conservative people liberals people are interested in politics of this they don't really care the only reason why they're here is to save lives i was 3 times on the small rescue boat yesterday there was a 6 year old boy among the survivors i saw his ses he was afraid then he smiled at me when he got on the rescue boat and you gave me a thumbs up you must really have a heart of stone to not tell these people look it gets pretty emotional out here as soon as some of the refugees. both on the rescue boat they go down on their knees and they start to pray you know they've lost all hope they thought that they might die that they will die in the house to come and then those viking came out of nowhere so someone told me there is
9:19 am
a god again it's it's not about politics we don't talk about the political situation in libya and a lot n.g.o.s cannot save problems created by politicians. thanks very much for that source for us aboard the ocean viking today thanks very much this is still to come. we'll tell you how the striker barely hala stages the superstars of paris sign jermaine in their champions league encounter. but 1st it says the popular colombian tourist city of carnahan where there's a growing number of children being forced into prostitution this problem has been deepening as carnahan as sunny beaches attract ever more international tourists but a group of local residents is fighting back as they join forces to break up the under-age prostitution ric's they'd have used as this exclusive report.

during the day got the best duns with its vivid colors and vibrant caribbean charm a picture perfect holiday destination for tourists from all over the world but when the sun goes down things change. as night falls sex workers flood the squares popular with foreigners many of them far too young to be doing this as a d.w.i. undercover reporter finds out after just a couple of minutes on the central placid last call chase. how old are you 16 how much is it tight 100 i know a place within walking distance it's safe i always go there the city's booming tourism sector has helped many families secure their livelihood but the wish to escape poverty has created a blind spot when it comes to protecting the most vulnerable. fernando who wishes to remain anonymous was 13 when strangers 1st offered him money for sex.
9:21 am
when i saw the money i obviously gave him i didn't anticipate the harm it would do to me. but once you enter this vicious cycle which it undoubtably is you can't escape on your own you need tools and people who can get you back on the right track. with them. in cologne. prostitution is illegal before the age of 18 the fight against sexual exploitation of children is regulated by law but legislation wasn't able to protect fernando and thousands of others from becoming victims. to shield young people from those who want to take advantage of them a local foundation has launched a campaign. i am the wall. so you know is a defense strategy for all boys and girls in the tourism sector environments there are protocols and codes of conduct we ask of service providers especially hotels to implement in coordination with the authorities and that's the reaction part of the
9:22 am
wall also doesn't put in prevention work and it tends miners whose rights have already been violated and. since its launch hundreds of hotels taxi drivers and street vendors have joined the initiative one of them is victor he runs a beach tender rental and feels like much more than just another brick in the wall . opposite the beaches who knew all about this problem. if we see something we make sure to tell people hey listen what you're doing is wrong we need to protect our children and we can't put them in the hands of criminals when i do this from my heart nobody is forcing me this is community work and when i want for my community i fight with my heart my hands my feet my teeth that was all i have. but not everybody is as dedicated as victor our undercover reporter was offered sex

with a minor just metres away from 2 patrolling policeman proving once again that it takes a village to protect a vulnerable child but only one person to let it fall through the cracks. 16 to us throwing starts fantasy. i'd let it go madrid stunning champions liverpool one nil the 1st lie closer to home dortmund defeating paris on jermaine johnson crane from our sources here more morning jonathan an important win for for dortmund how did they do it well 2 things i think for a start normally was really defend held up in the face of paris superstars neymar and kelly and i'm back pay and then they had that new stuff hole and who's not just living up to the hype he's really exceeding it brian it was quite a cagey type fest off but then again really sprang to life in the final 20 minutes because that was when adding

a wall and pokes them into the leader reacted foster's to a rebound that lead to the last 6 minutes because name of their equaliser the visit to south korea cross from bad pay and then 2 minutes later a hole in smashed in an absolute scream from outside the penalty area to give don't win the victory very well deserved given how they approach the day and obviously this one is far from over yet they've got to get to paris and and defend what is going to marry the lead percentage of an obviously with the away you go but based on the performance last night they'll be very pleased with how they did it early and hauling was looking like he was having a great time out on the pitch he's the new hero just how good is i think with frost running out of supposed to describe him and he's only 19 years of age don't think that it was a big coup for goldman for actually signing the bits of competition from manchester united and eventis and at the same time he felt quite a lot of pressure on this young guy so does a lot of hype as we mentioned betty he said he's not will thing under that pressure
9:25 am
. last night when you had all the storylines like thomas tickell returning to dortmund off to his acrimonious departures coach neymar back from injury it was holding the stole the headlines and it really showed the complete package 2 very different goals is for us on a real typical poaches strikers go and that 2nd one the touch. and the finish was just absolutely incredible now we're going to hear from him for a shortly i will say he's a man of very few thankfully we've got a team accelerate so as well he throws in some of that so let's take a listen oh yeah i'm very happy. there's a couple striker i think we need it because sometimes you know when we can all. play from the back you know we just make a lot more when it's just you can't keep the ball is really strong. told but this is a good speed. enjoying every 2nd and. then. my left is good. ok
9:26 am
we're hoping for a lot more from a little bit he didn't just reported it's all there in the days ahead and the game's going up let's talk about liverpool losing to let it go but great what happened. in madrid especially when you consider that for me that's a guy i've been struggling lately that anyone one game in 6 little league i or the season but it was at that scary 11 day with the only goal of the game off 4 minutes now it was a typically solid it's a great defensive performance a little be slightly concerned but or say they have got former timing deficits remember last season in the semifinals against barcelona they have attend a st 0 deficit and managed to get through to the final and then i went and i think out to their madrid will be a slightly tough and not to crack because we are as i said how strong they are in defense but i think we can safely say we've got to really intriguing a 2nd that's coming up in 3 weeks time ok looking forward to them johnson's ever great city thank you. the brave wards in london have been celebrating their 40th
