top story right now at least 11 people are dead after shootings near frankfurt here in germany the attacks occurred at 2 shisha bars in the town of had now another 5 people are seriously wounded police say the body of the suspected gunman was later found dead at his home along with that of his mother germany's build newspaper is reporting that the suspect left a video and a statement in which he expressed extreme right wing views and admitted to carrying out the shootings police have not confirmed this report federal prosecutors have now taken charge of the investigation. let's take a listen now to what witnesses and residents have been saying. about 10 pm i came downstairs with my 2 small children. my parents live just around the corner. 2 men were waiting outside. and i

think this attack was delayed 6 or 7 minutes because i walked past with my children . my kids and i were in good spirits. i live 100 meters from here and when i went up stairs i heard 567 shots that's what i saw and. my friends uncle was shot here behind us at a kiosk and we came here to express our sympathy. on the one hand you feel a bit powerless and on the other hand i don't want to call it fear but it's something like that that you have to be afraid to go out or go to a bar. also good. let's get the very latest now with the political correspondent with me here in the studio and on the ground live for us. is our

well as we heard in the in earlier in the show that the alleged assailants body has been found and supposedly his mother's body has also there and that there have been . that may may be a right wing radical motive behind the assailants attack and i've also talked to an eyewitness here he has a sports bar there a number of sports bars here in the area just about 50 meters from the bar the 1st bar here behind us where the 1st attack took place and he told me that he had 21 visitors in his bar and he heard shots right away hear shots and right away he ran out and there were about 6 that's a police dog and there were about 6 shots that he heard and he looked over to the side and he saw a body on the on the on the building over to my right on the sidewalk the person was still breathing then. he ran back inside told us guests to get away from the

window and then he looked out as again and he noticed saw a car being driven off allegedly the assailants car and who was allegedly on his way to the other location and he told me that he didn't understand if he really had right wing radical motives and this is a high immigrant area here in this town then he had a choice of a lot of packed bars here that he could have gone into and just finished people off why he had to go to another location that didn't make any sense to him and then that took about 5 to 6 minutes for the police to arrive here one police officer walks across sees the body on the ground is shocked and sees another body near where the assailants car was apparently 2 people were shot inside the bar there so the numbers have changed a little bit that they believe that now 4 were found here 5 at the other place and and 2 of those 4 people here were shot inside the bar and the other 2 as i

mentioned were shot outside and then he came back out and then. he hears other shots so even though this is a couple of kilometers away he could hear the shots and then within minutes he saw squad cars flying down the street here going in that other direction so it's interesting here this is not a quiet area this is not what you would think of quiets safe little town it's a small city rather i should say about 100000 people it has its crime it has a drug problem has a high immigrant. population it's a blue collar area and it has its moments but they never ever expected to have somebody use a gun and kill a kill 9 people and then perhaps themselves and their mother also ok what else have people been saying to you are are they in a state of shock we we saw earlier that has since the legislature hold a moment of mourning what's the mood where you are. somber very very somber sad disbelief that something could happen here i mean

as i mentioned it's not necessarily a safer stereo in germany but a shoot out like this you would expect that maybe maybe in a big big city where there's been drug gangs going on stuff like that it's not quite the situation here so this is shocking and i asked that eyewitness also i said if it's true that there was a right wing extremist motive to this entire attack is that a problem in this town he said no no i mean there's a few people they get drunk and they say a few things against migrants but he says not a big deal so this is this is shocking shocking to everyone here ok hans we have evidence now this been confirmed that this was an extreme right wing motivated attack what can you tell us about that is the official confirmation what i can say comes from the interior minister of the federal state of his'n which is where hano is located he has confirmed that the investigation is based on

a right wing motive by the perpetrator by the gunmen and they further indication to that is that the german federal prosecutor has taken over the investigation in this case and the federal prosecutor only takes on cases that have significance as well beyond the region where that took place that are. cases that in some sense actions in some sense that are directed against the german state so we can say with certainty that it is a right wing terrorist. that was behind this attack that the attack killed people on the basis of racism on the basis of the necessity what evidence is the government working with the most clear evidence is the fact that there was a video and a statement left behind in on the internet by the alleged perpetrator one has found a personal web. run by him which was filled with right wing extremist propaganda

evidence that it's presenting and the suspect. well that's pretty much what we were afraid of since the since the news broke out is that follows very much online of what we've seen in christchurch and other attacks and what's very interesting again is along the lines of what the perpetrator in the terrorists did is that one of the 1st messages was in english which means as your colleague rightly pointed out this is the audience is a global audience we're not talking about a circle strictly german audience which fits again right into this interconnection of various far right interests and as such we can see that there is support that goes beyond the physical support isn't digital support and this is where disability come into play and. what they've covered very much fits with what we've seen throughout the year 21000 when it comes to terrorism what about the preparation necessary for this level of attack what do you think had to happen to make it

attack a lone wolf attack or was the individual involved part of a larger network. definitely part of a larger network against me again the evidence uncovered shows that he definitely had an online life where his motives where his far right for someone could express itself who gather support potentially financial support where he could exchange with people supporting his views perhaps in terms of logistics however such an attack carried out or perhaps even the hinting to where it could get a weapon again this is speculating but this is. and based on past evidence provided by past cases. what we're really seeing is that a lone actor however with a digital likely very likely digital support. group learns the situation that it's no longer it might be a lone attacker but he's not alone even if their virtual supporters are sturdy

experts counterterrorism advisor thanks very much for your comments thank you. hans would have been some of the political reactions to the shooting so far well now we're getting actual political reactions to this initially most politicians including the government spokesman very reticent to refer to the motive of the perpetrator they only express their solidarity and their understanding for the victims and their families. for instance the leader of the christian social union that's the conservative party in bavaria which is closely allied with the christian democrats he has been saying that against the background of this xenophobic racist attack that the german state the german system the system of.

the courts and so on of the legal system will hit back with all the hardness all the means at its disposal against such attacks and against such perpetrators and similar sorts of reactions have been coming from politicians from various other political parties from the social democrats who are also part of a coalition government here in germany from the freedom across that's the business friendly liberal party so i think you can say they're all major political parties are condemning the right wing terrorist nature of this attack and saying that the german state and the german democracy will defend itself against such acts on thanks very much i will have plenty more analysis and we'll be live again throughout the day in on our on the story as details.
