these precautions the new normal in the fight to can tie in the. corona virus. in italy top officials met after the virus claimed its 1st victim in the country an elderly man in northern italy died after being hospitalized. it could on your town southeast of milan officials shut down schools and businesses local residents are worried that you don't send it back if they don't you don't officially order to close down all the shops and we're following the order so we're closing there's a lot of alarm and that's also worries me that you know that there are scientists with. public events. and that includes church services the virus apparently spread in northern italy for a hospital and cafe. the world health organization warned that time might be running out to contain the virus. the cases we see in the rest of the world

although the numbers are small but north to lean on all the china it's very worrisome although the window of opportunity is not all we need to contain the outbreak we still have a chance to contain it but we're doing that we have to prepare at the same time put in any eventualities because this outbreak could go any direction it could even be missy. the latest country to report deadly cases of the virus is iran where many fear that the number of deaths and infections is higher than the figures being reported by the authorities. concerned about the virus and afraid that it may spread here in iran i am wearing a mask and gloves and washing my hands more often as a precaution against infection. iranian officials are working to quell
4:04 pm
fear of the virus and have asked the country's media to coordinate their reporting with the health ministry. as we heard in. now report just now iran is among the latest countries to report deaths from the new coronavirus reported trees atop what is in the iranian capital and she joins us now for more so just how serious is the corona virus outbreak in iran are people worried. well hinch iran people are certainly more cautious now all than usually some of wearing face miles so plastic gloves to protect themselves against the virus and many also told us that they try to wash their hands often that's possible now which is also what the local radio and television stations keep telling people to do but with the outbreak center with the central some 160 kilometers away in form normal life into iran goes on so people are
4:05 pm
a lot more cautious than usual but you can probably see behind me that iran is still a very busy place. ok so individuals are taking their own measures to protect themselves but true so what about the government and as it taken any new steps to curb the spread of the coronavirus. yeah iranian officials have introduced a number of emergency measures to keep the virus from spreading any further in the city of form for example where most cases of being reported soules in u.s. cities are closed now and official also warning people to not take part in any large religious gatherings for example on social media we're also seeing pictures of trains being disinfected into iran and also in other big cities like shiraz for example but not everyone here in iran is convinced that these measures are sufficient to some level of mistrust against the authorities handling of the crisis and some people feel that the number of cases and deaths could be higher than it is

reported even. while the news of the krona virus deaths in iraq. is coming just on the heels of the country's parliamentary elections which took place yesterday teresa was the whole affected in any way by the coronavirus issue. no i don't think so many people came to the polling station wearing face masks and plastic lost and it was generally a very quiet election day but the cross well that was not the coronavirus i think but the fact that many people thought it wouldn't make a difference any move anywhere whether they voted or not because none of the candidates offered any credible solutions to iran's problems so the turnout is probably going to be very low while the hard right knows when but that does not have anything to do with the coronavirus mostly. w's reporter terisa trumper in the iranian capital tehran to thank you very much. let's get

a problem in germany. somehow now i would like saab on psychology kaba feel that action rather than gestures is what's needed to address far right extremism. to this couldn't view of course we as citizens can really take to the streets and hold back on is and demonstrate against it. but it's our country germany has to do something about it. most. of the people gathered in her now are hoping their show of solidarity will prompt germany's politicians to back up their words of condemnation with concrete measures to ensure public safety. and w.'s political correspondent kate brady is standing by for us in now now kate so we saw in that report it seems that quite a number of people turned out for today's demonstration what was the message that
4:10 pm
protesters had. well there were 2 real messages of course the weekend has provided locals here with a chance to unite as well now everyone's off work to show solidarity this weekend and remember the victims who lost their lives on wednesday evening but the main message at the demonstration today was to show a stance against far right extremism here in germany but interestingly enough many demonstrators were also carrying placards criticizing the far right posse with many people reiterating what we've heard from some politicians over the last couple of days as well in their criticism of the far right a.f.d. for their role in normalizing rights rhetoric here in germany in recent years and those now increasing calls for the a.f.p. to be put under surveillance. all right so german politicians have acknowledged that the country does have

a problem with extremist far right elements one thing they've now suggested is security around the country kate how do locals feel about this idea is it going to give them an added sense of security. well from the people i've spoken to the opinion really is very much still divided on the well some people have welcomed the fact that the government at least seems to be trying to take some action to tackle far rights extremism here in germany others say it's simply not enough and at the same time many people that i spoke to here particularly those 04 and just sent have said that they don't want to have that feeling that they need police protection they want to be able to go about their everyday lives like everyone else so not since they want to see a fundamental rethinking of how immigration migration identity is handled here in germany because they many of them see themselves for 1st and foremost as germans
