these precautions are the new normal in the fight to contain the corona virus. in italy top officials met after the virus claimed its 1st victim in the country an elderly man in northern italy died after being hospitalized. it could on your town southeast of milan officials shut down schools and businesses local residents are worried that you don't send it back if they don't you don't official order to close down all the shops and we're following the order so we're closing there's a lot of alarm and that's also worries me that you probably know that the scientists. at. public events are banned and that includes church services the virus apparently spread in northern italy for a hospital and cafe. the world health organization warns that time might be running out to contain the virus. the cases we see in the rest of the world although

the numbers are out of the small but the north to lean good to go to china it's very worrisome although the window of opportunity is not all we need to contain the outbreak we still have a chance to contain it but we're doing that we have to prepare the same time put in any eventualities because this outbreak could go any direction it could even be missy. the latest country to report deadly cases of the virus is iran where many fear that the number of deaths and infections is higher than the figures being reported by the authorities. concerned about the virus and afraid that it may spread here in iran i am wearing a mask and gloves and washing my hands more often as a precaution against infection. iranian officials are working to quell
6:04 pm
fear of the foreigners and i've asked the country's media to coordinate their reporting with the health ministry. in the iranian capital where she's been taking a look at how people are responding to the outbreak there people here in tirana are more cautious now than usual many are wearing face masks and plastic gloves to protect themselves against the virus especially if they're busy places like markets or public transport some also tell us that they try to wash their hands as often as possible now which is also what radio stations and t.v. channels are telling people to do and iranian officials are also taking emergency measures in the holy city of qom for example where the epicenter of the outbreak is schools and universities are closed at the moment and also already is advising people to avoid large religious gatherings and not everybody in iran believes that these measures are sufficient and many fear that the actual number of cases could be even higher than reported. reza top of there for us in tehran let's take

a call for action against extremist. leaders they have gathered in hand out to commemorate the victims of the attack on wednesday night. the large crowd of demonstrators are also taking a stand against far right violence and page. but here god alone he n.f. lived here for 25 years and i've never seen anything like this tributes to the dead continue to be laid. but amid the grief there is anger and frustration at germany's politicians. that there are still enough people especially in the broad sense who have remained quiet haven't spoken out clearly against racism and i think that's a problem in germany. and somehow now like sa bansa colleagues feel that action rather than gestures is what's needed to address far right extremism. just couldn't view of course we as citizens can only take to the streets and hold

banners and demonstrate against it. but it's our country germany that has to do something about it. the people gathered in her now are hoping their show of solidarity will prompt germany's politicians to back up their words of condemnation with concrete measures to ensure public safety. voting is underway in togo is a presidential elections with incumbent forward yes seeing be widely expected to secure a 4th term the small west african nation has been led by and yes since 2005 when he took over power from his father now under new laws yes eligible to serve 2 more 5 year terms that would keep him in power potentially until 2030 many voters say they want change but the opposition has failed to unite behind one candidate. family's half century rule over togo may be getting an extension if incumbent wins

it will be his 4th term 6 candidates are hoping to put an end to that including. the opposition figure has already tried to unseat in 201-2015 he contested his last defeat making him extra cautious this time around. we're going to try and go around the polling stations to check on the regularity of electoral operations because when we know what goes on. we need to be extremely vigilant. critics share of concern about the votes legitimacy 500 local observers lost their credit taishan ahead of the election accused of interfering in it not us based election observer group was expelled from the country as well while electronic system meant to secure the results has been canceled the remaining international observers come largely from african states that support the incumbent

when you're in berlin see the match day out on monday evening. well to the 70th berlin international film festival is underway right here in the german capital and some of the favorites for the prestigious golden bear are already leaving a lasting impression on audiences johnny depp though a stole the headlines and the limelight on day 2 of the belinelli as his latest film minamata made its world premiere day 3 has even more in store for us one of the highly anticipated films on saturday night is erst cow tale from the 820 s. by american director kelly reichardt. porter i'm in a safe as one of the best seats in the house to check out the barely no action this weekend your on the red carpet but i understand you had a chance to see 1st how i mean this was one of the films with a lot of free festival hype what's sort out for you well this

is indeed one of the bigger films that has been teased in the media i would say that it's a western that is not a western i would maybe even call it a neo western so we're looking at a friendship between 2 men who don't exactly fit into this world of hard boiled frontiersmen and they develop this friendship in order to survive essentially they come up with a plot to make hot cakes out of milk from a cow that they found and it pleases everyone it sells like hotcakes and they are trying to work out a way to make this last so we see a very tender side of the wild west despite the fact that i still would put this in the genre of western. western potentially have but in the running for the golden bear i mean in your. opinion how does this stack up against the competition.
6:13 pm
well the director kellie reichard she is a respected director and without giving too much away i would say that this is probably not a minor film just to give you an idea of how much work she put into it i asked her earlier because i noticed certain details in the set in the props that i had never seen before in a western and she kind of knowingly laughed and said indeed a lot of effort was put into making this historically accurate so for example they had a researcher in london who was doing research to figure out what the setting would look like because there are no photographs from the time in the wild west also she spent time with members of a local tribe in south oregon and met up with people who still make crafts from back then so a cedar cave for example that's like a rain jacket that a lot of native americans wore in that area made out of wood and she also sent the 2 main actors i'd love to hear about this from the main actor she sent both of them to a sort of camp where they had to learn to make the crafts as realistically as possible
6:14 pm
so that they could make them in the film and look like to know what they're doing so if the jury is looking for evidence that the director put a lot of effort into this film i don't think they'll be disappointed yeah absolutely now i mean you could hear the buzz across berlin that's because johnny depp made an appearance here in the capital on friday on the red carpet what can we expect today. well i don't want to say it's all downhill from there because indeed johnny depp was the headliner this year i mean the fans were going crazy for him but i will say that tonight is going to be a much quieter night unless you're a fan of french cinema which many people are this is not going to be your night to come down to the red carpet if you want to still get a little bit of the taste here is still glamorous despite the fact that there are no big stars like johnny depp but i will say that this year has been more star studded than last year people are still looking forward to seeing willem dafoe in the coming days but tonight it'll be a little bit more low key and a great place to be if you're a film fan obviously as well porter i mean as if on the red carpet at the barely
