a carnival because there are hospitals and ponds and supermarkets and restaurants and trains and planes and ferries which are open spaces so how do you solve this problem start to get conover well it's all ridiculous. with more than $100.00 cases reported it really since friday authorities have their hands full trying to prevent a widespread outbreak. all the votes are being tallied in elections held on sunday in the german state of homburg and the social democrats or s p d look to come away the big winner that means the center left party will remain in power and homburg the green party have improved as well since the previous election and they finished in 2nd place a far right alternative for germany already or de appear to have failed to meet the 5 percent threshold necessary to remain in the state parliament.
8:05 pm
let's take a look now at the numbers these are the latest projects or results coming from hamburg as you heard the center left social democrats doing well they look sense to maintain power around 38.6 percent they are the greens with a big jump up near 25 percent ugly americans party b. christian democrats down around 11 of the left party is at 9.2 percent on the far right a d.c. if they're coming in just under 5 percent that's the magic number to remain in parliament the business friendly f.t.p. right at 5 percent and you see the other parties there rounding out the rest of the projections. political correspondent kate brady joins me now in studio to help break down those results kate 1st of all just what stands out to you with those numbers of just all oh well for us and for what the. booking the national trends and they have managed to hold on to that strong hold a pen in hamburg at the same time of course the greens have come out the big

winners they've doubled their amount of since the last state election up in hamburg in 2015 the cd you have a cd you they've seen a record low sinking down to as little as 11.5 percent they've never really have much of a stronghold or a strong sense of support in any way but of course the debacle recently just a few weeks ago in the eastern state of 3rd which saw the c.d.u. that cooperate with the f.d.a. and they won't help with these results and of course we also have indeed the far right at the moment if these projections prove to be correct they could be out of the state parliament in hamburg which would be a 1st in germany as they finally last year they actually made it into all 16 states let's zoom in 1st of all on the greens i mean they as you mentioned they're going to have a big gain it looks like in homburg what's behind that i mean is this another sign that this green wave is sweeping across. well this election of in hamburg was

dubbed the climate's election and hamburg as a city state is extremely climate conscious and of course the effects of climate change are very much on the city's doorstep as well it's a port city and they've been struggling in recent years with several bouts of severe floods and they really put climate change and climb and action against climate change at the forefront of a lot of policies and we've seen over the past few years the social democrats in the greens of beating government they're working as quickly as possible to to make the city the city state even carbon neutral as well by 2050. and the a f d a mean another another party to look at here in this election on the verge maybe of losing their position in parliament what's behind the lack of success well if you look back over see the last elections of 5 years ago and that was before the migrant crisis which has been instrumental lies a lot by the way if they in the policies and so they were already doing it around 6

percent the so they didn't have many seats in parliament but also when it comes to the issues of can humbug they just the rhetoric that we hear from the far right just doesn't strike a chord with hamburgers and so basically a lot of the issues which grievances for voices in eastern parts of germany people who feel that they've been left behind after the fall of the wall and they were unhappy with the polish take some policies and forced by big tent parties in recent years so magical c.d.u. and the social democrats that's not really felt so much in hamburg and of course as a port city it's always prided itself as well in being this open international gateway to the world and so that kind of open minded international view of itself just doesn't fit as all with the xenophobia can often fall right rhetoric that where harry from the far right if they write d w political correspondent kate brady breaking down those numbers in the homburg election thanks very much. well sunday is day 4 of the 70th for lin international

the symbol of letting go it was a personal challenge for a director normally hands on with every detail. because we were so connected to christian via the radio intercom we could really dive into our own element. of money and since it wasn't possible to conduct these long monologues on all sorts of topics they really left us alone in our element. was i don't pull a beer and friends for a play an intimate couple with plenty of intensity in his destiny is different in this case because rather than be unfaithful kristoff wants to love her sincerely avoiding spoilers as to how this all plays out initially everything looks like a fairy tale. in the got this kino i always thought that cinema is the place where you could make things make the world sing. but fairy tales do this to. its olds retelling of the myth when dana doesn't always deliver

the performances from b. and raquel ski as the love struck leads more than makes up for its shortcomings. and a reporter helen humphrey has the enviable task of watching the sunday premieres for us at the bare the knowledge she joins us now from the red carpet helena you saw this is an old tale with a modern berlin twist did that work for you. your call it really did if you think about the landscape of lane it's a watery landscape with many beautiful lakes in the shape of a river that runs through it which makes it an ideal location to retell the myth of a water sprite is spurned by her lover and then goes on to seek revenge but kristin petzold gave this feminist a twist he didn't want said leave his protagonist powerless and so as you saw there in that report she goes on and she finds love once again now this really is the

appeared to me all of the berlin school of film making in fact very sparse dialogue and wonderful cinematography showing the brutalist landscape but i think that's fast dialogue at times could be his downfall i have to say despite those wonderful performances from the lead actors sometimes it was difficult to understand where the intensity of their relationship actually came from nevertheless this still proved to be a high stakes drama a tragedy which was very much about life love as well as death without providing too many spoilers and some good washing scenes for medicare in there as well. not the only movie that you got to see today what else was premiering. right i got the chance to see the press screaming street screening i should say of the brazilian film total source more thirst or all of the dead ones and this is a story set in brazil it's a period piece at the end of the $1800.00 so just

a few years after slavery has been abolished in the country and it takes that on as its main theme we meet this one is family they were once the rich owners of a coffee plantation which they lose and then they struggle to adjust to life without slaves they can barely carry out even the most menial of tasks for themselves and we see how they struggle to react to interact with a population of people of color who are now freed and no longer slaves and it's very much a poor trade of a country undergoing evolution and i think all this by the fact that it was set at the end of the 800 it's very relevant today it's a commentary on race and at a press conference the director was very clear to point out that this is a political this is a political film and they really wanted to start the conversation on the politics often a topic at the berlin international film festival helen humphrey from the red carpet for us thanks very much.
