outbreak on sunday south korea raised its disease alert level to the highest possible there are hundreds of registered cases in the country and the number of new infections is still surging meanwhile the coded 19 commonly known as the corona virus is becoming increasingly political in iran the supreme leader ayatollah ali how many accused iran's enemies of spreading propaganda about the virus online in order to stifle voting in parliamentary elections. you know how massively they worked using various platforms to lower voter turnout how to nasm you know how during the last pretext they resorted to was this coronavirus which has scared many. you him could usually do belong to. iranians accuse their leadership of hiding the real scope of the outbreak.

we don't know what's true and what's false since a government is constantly lying to us. health experts say maintaining a healthy immune system is key to fighting off the virus protective masks are now the dominant picture of residents on alert. in italy residents of northern towns prepared for a weeklong quarantine nerves began to fray among locals facing new lockdown measures. now authorities have canceled the last 2 days of the famed venice carnival starting sunday evening many revelers were in play again medical themed costumes some were not impressed. it's useless to stop the colonising because there are hospitals and bonds in supermarkets and restaurants and trains and planes and ferries which are open spaces so how do
9:04 pm
you solve this problem start to get conover well it's all ridiculous. with more than $100.00 cases reported in italy since friday authorities have their hands full trying to prevent a widespread outbreak. of the votes are being tallied in elections held on sunday in the german state of hamburg and the social democrats or s.p.d. looks set to come away the big winner that means the center left party will remain in power in the celebrations there the green party have improved since the previous election and finished in 2nd place the far right alternative for germany party or a f t appear to be right around the 5 percent threshold necessary to remain in the state parliament. let's take a look now at the numbers these are as the latest projected results coming in from that hamburg election as we just heard the center left social democrats are on top they look set to maintain power around 38.9 percent now the greens with
9:05 pm
a big jump up to 24.4 party the christian democrats just above 11 percent the left at around 9 and as we heard some fluctuations they were just below the 5 percent mark but now looks like the far right coming in at $5.00 while the business friendly f.d.p. at 5 percent and you can see the other parties there rounding out the rest of the projections. political correspondent kate brady joins me now in studio to help break down those results kate 1st of all just what stands out to you with those numbers we just oh well 1st and foremost of course the. booking the national trends and they've managed to hold on to their stronghold a pin in. the same time of course the greens have come out the big winners they've doubled their amount of votes since the last state election up in hamburg in 2015 the cd you have a map a cd you of they've seen
9:06 pm
a record low sinking down to as little as 11.5 percent they've never really had much of a stronghold or strong sense of support in any way but of course the debacle recently just a few weeks ago in the eastern state of 30 year which saw the c.d.u. there cooperate with the f.d.a. certainly won't help with these results and of course we also have indeed the far right at the moment if these projections prove to be correct they could be out of the state parliament in hamburg which would be a 1st in germany as they finally last year they actually made it into all 16 states let's zoom in 1st of all on the greens i mean as you mentioned they're going to have a big game it looks like in homburg what's behind that i mean is this another sign that this green wave is sweeping across germany well this election of in hamburg was dubbed the climate election and hamburg as a city state is extremely climate conscious and of course the effects of climate
9:07 pm
change are very much on the city's doorstep as well it's a port city and they've been struggling in recent years with several bouts of severe floods and they really put climate change and climb and action against climate change at the forefront of a lot of policies and we've seen over the past few years the social democrats in the greens of beating government they're working as quickly as possible to make the city the city state even carbon neutral as well by 2050. and they do you mean another another. party to look at here in this election on the verge maybe of losing their position in parliament what's behind the lack of success for well if you look back obviously the last elections of 5 years ago and that was before the migrant crisis which is being instrumental eyes a lot by the a.f.p. in the policies and so they were already doing it around 6 percent the they didn't have many seats in parliament but also when it comes to the issues of can humbug they just the rhetoric that we hear from the far right just doesn't strike
9:08 pm
a chord with. us and so basically a lot of the issues which grievances for voices in eastern parts of germany people who feel that they've been left behind after the fall of the wall and they were unhappy with the polish take some policies and forth by big tent parties in recent years so magical c.d.u. and the social democrats that's not really felt so much in hamburg and of course as a port city it's always prided itself as well in being this open international gateway to the world and so that kind of open minded international view of itself just doesn't fit as all with the xenophobia can often fall right rhetoric that we're hearing from the far right if they are right d w political correspondent kate brady breaking down those numbers in the homburg election thanks very much. sunday's day 4 of the 70th berlin international film festival this opening weekend has already been packed full of star power and premieres including for the 1st german movie in the top category director christian
9:09 pm
pets olds film titled deena and its position to make a big splash. dina has a broken heart a man cheated on her now this man is supposed to die christian petzold film is based on the myth of the mysterious. sprite who legend has it kills unfaithful spouses. but then christoph appears unexpectedly in her life and suddenly you love turns the legend on its head. he is a diver she and historian and together they venture into deep emotions the water the symbol of letting go it was a personal challenge for a director normally hands on with every detail. because we were so connected to christian via the radio intercom we could really dive into our own element. and
9:10 pm
since it wasn't possible to conduct these long monologues on all sorts of topics they really left us alone in our element. and i'm for the i don't pull of b.s. and friends for a gal ski play an intimate couple with plenty of intensity in his destiny is different in this case because rather than be unfaithful kristoff wants to love her sincerely avoiding spoilers as to how this all plays out initially everything looks like a fairy tale. in the about the kino i always thought that cinema is the place where you could make things make the world sing. but fairy tales do this to. its old retelling of the myth that doesn't always deliver the performances from beer and regale skee as the love struck leads more than make up for its shortcomings. and a reporter helen humphrey has the enviable task of watching the sunday premier's
9:11 pm
forests at the belly now as she joins us now from the red carpet helena you saw this is an old tale with a modern berlin twist did that work for you. your call it really did if you think about the landscape of lane is a watery landscape with many beautiful lakes in the shape a river that runs through it which makes it an ideal location to retell the myth of a water sprite is spurned by her lover and then goes on to seek revenge but kristin petzold gave this feminist a twist he didn't want to leave his protagonist powerless and so as you saw there in that report she goes on and she finds love once again now this really is the pitch to me all of the berlin school of filmmaking in fact very sparse dialogue some wonderful cinematography showing the brutalist landscape but i think
9:12 pm
that sparse dialogue at times could be his downfall i have to say despite those wonderful performances from the lead actors sometimes it was difficult to understand where the intensity of their relationship actually came from nevertheless this still proved to be a high stakes drama a tragedy which was very much about life love as well as death without providing too many spoilers and some good washing scenes for medicare in there as well a film not the only movie that you got to see today what else was premiering. right i got the chance to see depressed screaming street screaming i should say of the brazilian film total source more thirst or all of the dead ones and this is a story set in brazil it's a period piece at the end of the $1800.00 so just a few years after slavery has been abolished in the country and it takes that on as its main theme we meet this one is family they were once the rich owners of
9:13 pm
a coffee plantation which they lose and then they struggle to adjust to life without slaves they can barely carry out even the most menial of tasks for themselves and we see how they struggle to react to interact with a population of people of color who are now freed and no longer slaves and it's very much a portrait of a country undergoing evolution and i think old spike the fact that it was said at the end of the 800 it's very relevant today it's a commentary on race and at a press conference the director was very clear to point out that this is a political this is a political film and they really wanted to start the conversation on the politics often a topic of the berlin international film festival helen humphrey from the red carpet for us thank you so much. in the bundesliga on saturday title contenders rb leipzig kept up the pressure on by munich of the top of the table with a 5 nil demolition of shall go marcel zob it's our opening the scoring for leipzig
9:14 pm
there in the 1st minute nice long distance effort we're not really ready for that one in the 2nd half and i made it sunil with his 21st goal of the bundesliga campaign and leipzig got 3 more after that one of the best coming here from the 23 year old under leno julian novels inside is 2nd in the table they are just one point behind and need leaders by. i don't look now at the rest of the results so far a match day 23 leverkusen prevailing over girlie or on sunday for thrashing minds in saturday's games dortmund beat bremen leipzig taking down charlotta cologne big winner over hair into lombok drawing with hoffenheim and dusseldorf defeating freiburg on friday as we know byron beating potter borne in on monday we will see frankfurt's hosting berlin to close out the match day. watching the news sports
