he has urged regional authorities to review their emergency plan if. we are at the beginning of a coronavirus of the damage in germany the cases in north rhine-westphalia and a further sign of this change of infection are partly and this is a new aspect not traceable there are multiple persons who have had contact with the infected patients. and that's a qualitative difference to the 16 infectious cases we've already hot in germany it's where in each case the chain of infection could be traced back to the break in china. or at let's talk more about how germany is coping with the corona virus we have our correspondent kate brady with us here in studio hi kate we've heard the health minister now call this an epidemic here in germany so what is the government doing well there has been a taskforce now established to deal with this but at the moment germany is taking a very common level headed approach to dealing with current virus here in germany
11:03 am
but of course the situation is changing very rapidly and we're expecting to hear again from the health minister later today but at the moment when not expecting to see any large scale measures like closures in quarantines of entire towns and villages for example like we're seeing in parts of northern italy that said the local health ministries in the different states around germany particularly in north rhine-westphalia for example what we've now had a couple confirmed with corona virus encouraging people to isolate themselves to quarantine themselves if they have come into contact with someone who is affected and of course if people start to show symptoms them selves to contact a doctor book to also contact the local health administration as well so at the moment the main aim is to just try and slow down the spread of the virus as quickly as possible and the main advice for that right now is very simple measures like their hand washing and also making sure the. coughing and sneezing into your hands
11:04 am
and well as you mentioned the one place where it does appear to be spreading at the moment is in the state of north rhine-westphalia this couple as you said infected in the city of disorder let's take a look at that. a 47 year old man and his wife were transferred to the university clinic early on tuesday morning the man's condition is critical now the focus has shifted to the people the pair may have come into contact with in recent weeks. the couple has an active social life as you might be aware this weekend there were carnival celebrations throughout the state of north rhine-westphalia. what's important is that the woman is a kindergarten teacher and of course was working in child care until the beginning of carnival celebrations. with. children and ruled in day care centers and schools in the area as well as their parents are being told to remain at home for the next 2 weeks this is to minimize the risk of infection. and this is why the challenge

considering the man who was in various places while displaying symptoms during the virus is 10 to 14 day period so he's intentionally came into contact with an almost endless number of people here is the man was recently treated twice as a university clinic for an unrelated illness staff who had contact with him there are no under quarantine authorities are now searching for around 300 people who attended a carnival celebration with the couple amid fears that everyone they encountered could have to self isolate. kits of 10 new cases the possibility of further spread how worried are germs about this. and especially because this is a new virus and we still don't know everything about it and even the robot culhane just in situ which is leading the research into this virus here in germany they've said as well that every day they're learning new things about this virus which

there will be very it will be vital ready to that work in trying to prevent the spread of it around germany and of course across europe as well and of course at same time the still no vaccine available as well either say so far people do seem to be acting very responsibly though taking on those measures and advice that we're hearing from the german health ministry if you try and go and find some sorry paul especially hand sanitizer right now in berlin for example you'll have quite a hard job on many places are sold out already of hand sanitizer alcohol gel in the meantime as well any concerns and worries that people here in germany do you have that questions are largely being and said by a q. and a that's being provided by the center for education health care in germany as well our correspondent kate brady with us thank you kate. well to date the virus has claimed almost 3000 lives globally more than 82000 cases have been

putting pressure on social media giants to place reliable sources about the coronavirus higher in search results. and the w.h.o. has launched its own public information task force. there are several measures you care about to protect yourself and others from getting the new coronavirus the appropriate use of map their top counter measure to dissent from ation is actually simply putting the truth out there with soap and water or alcohol based for more on the story peter died from date of use social media team is with us he's been looking into the story for us hi peter this is extremely worrying and dangerous i mean why would people want to willfully spread misinformation well there are number reasons obviously we saw some of the reported ones like still cold greed so basically trying to make a quick buck off of you know other people's fears. more worryingly i think is that
11:12 am
they're using the misinformation to really as a political weapon so it's to destabilize governments it's to sow distrust in authorities at a time when a lot of people are really counting on officials to tell them how to how to go about this situation how to handle deal with a crisis. in the u.s. for instance we've seen the religious right really mobilized to you know race doubts and call into question the effectiveness of science we've seen right wing populist jump on this to really stoke anti immigrant sentiment spoke to a number of people from several asian countries who've described you know racist attacks physically and verbally and just last week u.s. intelligence warned that. basically an army of trolls linked to russia
11:13 am
has created thousands of fake accounts that are spreading. if actually these wild allegations like this cia created the virus in order to you know wage war in the chinese economy all of these things you know effectively call into question or raise doubts about whether or not we can trust our governments a lot of reasons for misinformation none of them are good ok with that see event misinformation out there what can people do to find out what information is reliable right i mean the good news is that we're seeing especially health ministries really stepping up they've done a pretty good job at providing providing easy to understand guidelines so definitely check out your local or your health ministries home page a lot of them have also take the social media to actively fight back against misinformation debunking myths but also use your common sense if you see some of the numbers that we saw in that report right there hundreds of thousands of deaths
11:14 am
well check other outlets check other major news sources are they reporting similar figures if not well it's probably not true ok and we seem to w.h.o. else on that report to set up this public information task force do you think that's going to be effective well i think it's awfully a step in the right direction but i think the problem is also much bigger then the w.h.o. one is a problem that they can't really contain and that is the fact that it remains too easy to abuse the social media platform to weaponize information they still facebook and twitter still rely to a to great extent on their users really policing and flacking misinformation as long as that policy continues this threat is going to persist and it's definitely not helping in situations like this rank it at these dollars thank you so much for joining us here in studio. and you can of course find reliable information about the spread of the corona virus on our website

religious riots in the indian capital delhi has risen to $32.00 police say sporadic violence has continued in the aftermath of the unrest that left northwestern parts of the city badly scarred the clashes broke out early this week between thousands protesting for and against a new citizenship law riot police and paramilitaries have been deployed in the affected area. let's bring indeed abused emissions as well from delhi for more on the story behind them isha what is the situation like in delhi today. already the situation continues to be tense there aren't the shocking visuals of running dry it's that he was seeing coming out of the location on monday and tuesday and so it has been carmel yesterday the police took out a massive flag marches through the area to reassure people that there is police presence but once again in the evening we heard reports of targeted violence against muslims the death toll has risen over the last day and reports say that it
11:17 am
could be much higher going forward there is a lot of feel in muslims not only living in the neighborhood but in other parts of delhi as well as that are rumors flying around of more trying to attack muslim neighborhoods but it is also heartening to see that there are other neighborhoods where hindus and muslims are taking out these marches together to say that they will stand against such violence and they are also see experiences and and and and shelter being offered to muslims who are trying to flee from their neighborhoods which is also happening so the situation will have to continue being monitored closely that i had some not quite over yet what caused these riots i mean what led to this outbreak of violence we've seen politicians are accused of sparking the rights with inflammatory speeches is that true. well definitely some of the 1st attacks have not been documented so we're not exactly clear what was the 1st thing that provoked the riots but one piece of information that has been coming out
11:18 am
is that there was a b.j. people edition of egypt we need to know who had come out in front of what he threatened to cut in protest of the gansa citizenship and all saying that of the police doesn't kill them he will take matters into his own hands now a deadly hot of the delhi high court has called for the police to take action against other put it they hate speech me good me because this is not new and hate speech has been spiking from the winning the g.o.p. and this has also cause going to cause of concern because this is now it looks like nothing to do you know instance of the whiners but of course once again the opposition is calling for the home minister to step down that's a lot of criticism of the reach of feet by the party itself has not taken action against these leaders even though the delhi high court has called for such action to be taken right t. davies nimish objects were reporting from delhi to michigan to talk to you. now your secrets might not be as secret as you think if you use whatsapp a d w news investigation has discovered that private group chats on whatsapp are often
11:19 am
private in name only found that links inviting people to join private whatsapp groups may also be a door for anyone to come in whatsapp groups were easily accessible through specific google searches the links to the groups have not been removed by google but they remain visible in several public internet archives. and jordan will deny broke this story he joins us to tell us more hi jordan can explain this works how exactly does this work i mean how can a link that invites me to join a private whatsapp group provide a way for anyone else in if they're using google. well see. anything that shows online anywhere can be indexed by google so i both google and what's often facebook have been very clear about this if a link has been shared anywhere google can see it's so i would have a private chat groups what kind of groups are these so there's all the kind of things you would expect this family and friends groups we found some things which
11:20 am
were study groups of school groups of doctors students but there's also been some things that are a little bit more sinister so we found some revenge porn there's a lot of things that are indicating a lot of like illegal pornography and some violent content as well this is clearly a breach of privacy jordan but explain to us what that what the real danger is here i mean how can this information be used i mean those 2 points here one of them is that some government groups were found and obviously that could be potentially dangerous information leaks that way the other is we found one group which was in a lot of our country who are homophobic killings are quite high and once you enter these groups you can see all of the phone numbers which is naturally quite dangerous yeah that is dangerous jordan and a serious lapse i mean how have whatsapp and google responded to this. so google is essentially just. this is normal behavior so anything that's post online will be visible what's happened kind of reiterated up with a flop back a bit 1st they said this was an intentional project decision basically to make it
11:21 am
easier to join groups then they've gone and removed all of these searches now so you can't find them so it's kind of unclear and i won't comment further on that what about the fact that what's up is owned by facebook is their c.e.o. mark zuckerberg is is now asking governments to regulate as industry i mean would regulations prevent this type of thing from happening. well this is something that i would kind of expect from us because if they get the government to regulate the industry then it kind of takes the responsibility from them to just how flicka a moral and ethical decision making process to just protect people so it's a case of maybe this should be government regulation but maybe also companies should just take care of people's privacy interests are all right really interesting stuff is jordan weldon thank you for sharing your reporting with us thank you sports now in wednesday's champions league games manchester city shocked around the dread to one in the 1st leg of their last 16 match up is goal gave rael a lead after
