south korean city of daegu has been hit hard by this virus and containment measures are in full swing the streets of being fumigated and medical stuff that collecting samples from people in self-imposed quarantine south korea has the largest number of coronavirus cases outside china and it's desperate to stop those numbers from rising mosques are in short supply with huge lines of places selling them. i only have 5 or 6 masks left at home but i think the coronavirus outbreak will last till the end of march there is never enough masks and i will certainly need more. across the korean strait japan too is getting serious about stopping the virus in its tracks or schools will be closed for next week that means almost 13000000 students will be staying at home. our graduation ceremony is coming
8:04 pm
up soon so it's quite a hectic time of year but most important thing is preventing infections so there's not much else we can do that i cannot do in the middle east and outbreak in iran is intensifying and sunny by saudi arabia is not taking any chances the kingdom has pilgrims from entering the country and visiting the holy sites in mecca and medina . there's an increased presence of this disease in several countries including those near saudi arabia increases the risks so protecting pilgrims and the 2 hold the most and god forbid the sacred sites from the arrival of this disease is very important. the decision will affect muslims worldwide millions travel to mecca during the holy month of ramadan which begins in 4 wakes and for more now we want to go to margaret harris of the world health organization she is working with the w h o's coronavirus team in geneva switzerland good evening to you margaret we've got
8:05 pm
these new reports here in germany and in the u.s. state of california the 1st reported king says with no obvious sources of transmission of the virus in other words we don't know how these patients caught the virus what more do you know about that tonight so when you have a report saying that it has no idea where it came from quite often you find really deep investigation then this happens quite often weeks later you do find the link so this stage is too early to say ok we don't know because there's more to find out so it's not a reason to be alarmed that you would say that this is a a new turn in the coronavirus saga. no i mean obviously we always like to know where the infection came from so we can follow the link follow the courses help contain it but usually we do find sort of longer and deeper conversations
8:06 pm
generally or sometimes up to investigate some of the people around generally you do find the links let me ask you the jerusalem post is reporting that israeli scientists will have a coronavirus vaccine available in just 90 days in the newspapers citing a government minister in that article and can you confirm that tonight. we have heard lots of different reports what we do know is that there are least 4 very good potential backs in can that that's the problem because you need to do extensive testing on human volunteers that help the people who say yes i willing to have it tested on me to see if it's safe and you need to do that for at least 6 months so even if this promising science and there are some very promising sites around the world that testing needs to be done to make sure it's safe to use on everyone but mother isn't it it's troubling though in worrisome isn't it when you
8:07 pm
have a government ministry in this case israel telling the public that in the span of 3 months a vaccine is going to be ready for the public because that just can't be possible right. well i haven't seen the reports and you know you might remember the ministry may have saved the can that that scene is good the science is good so sometimes the process is now is misunderstood so until i've actually seen. the the detail on that i couldn't give you an opinion either way. you know we know that countries are attacking this virus with different approaches in the united states for example the vice president is now heading america's coronavirus program are you concerned about a politician with no medical training being in charge of a program like this again these are decisions that different countries make but it
8:08 pm
is important that this political engagement in every country because it is the leadership that makes a decision to get on a truly ready 14 so the important thing is to understand that this is going to come to your community and make the decisions you need to make about who's going to look after the sick who's going to bring in the extra health care workers there's going to look after the help get workers make sure they've got supplies have you got your largess ready all these things so that the the questions that need to be also in the answers need to be found today not tomorrow or overwrites the w.h.s. margaret here is joining us tonight from geneva switzerland with the latest on the battle against the coronavirus market as always we appreciate your insights thank you thank you well the w.h.o. is also calling on social media companies to help stop the spread of untruths about the coronavirus a delusion dissin from asia is making it difficult for people to keep themselves

favor of canceling plans to build a 3rd runway at london's heathrow airport but the government approved the project back in 2018 environmental groups have been fighting legal battles against it claiming that another runway would violate the u.k.'s commitment to the paris climate agreement. in india some of the worst sectarian violence in years has left more than 30 people dead in the capital delhi the unrest has sparked or was sparked by a controversial wall that fast track to citizenship for certain religious groups from neighboring countries but it excludes muslims violence between hindus who backed the war and muslims who oppose it 1st broke out on sunday since then clashes have left parts of the city in ruins and people fearing for their lives. it's days after the clashes began and these communities are still burying their dead in
8:13 pm
this month's friends say he was hit by a street billets as he went i see by groceries others have managed to escape with their lives but only just mohammed was attacked by a violent mob as he made his way home from the local mosque. 20 to 25 people started beating me up the rest were standing by as if they were watching a show there were thousands behind them they kept hitting me nobody came forward to save me. mobs armed with swords guns and acid have destroyed districts in the northeast of new daily people living here have been critical of the police's response be out afraid we had left our houses on midnight does regard they are not there. the clashes prompted demands for a curfew in some areas authorities have banned people from assembling it is the
8:14 pm
worst sectarian violence to hit india's capital in decades. a matter are hindu brothers houses were attacked by people throwing stones and the muslim brothers homes were also attacked but not as much aldred we haven't heard of such violence crime hindus and muslims but now we're hearing this. there's an uneasy calm across the city after more than 3 days of attacks and arson with sparring communities left came to the cost of this violent unrest. or to greece now were tensions over migration are feeling anger in the dozens of people have been hurt in clashes between police and protesters on the island of chios islanders are angry about government plans to build new facilities to replace the camps where thousands of asylum seekers are living in squalor despite the escalating crisis the greek government is insisting that it will proceed with the plans.
8:15 pm
they've had enough and they had to show it protests over the construction of new camps for migrants turned violent as locals clashed with police. and we will resist with all our strength for as long as needed so that no new structures are built on our island. people on the greek islands of less boesky dozens almost have called for general strike people they're furious because they don't want to have to shoulder but they see as the burden off europe's migration crisis on their own they also feel they've been abandoned by their government in essence they're not under you know how we feel. we want our islands back we want our lives back. the greek islands just off the coast of turkey are the 1st of many migrants entering the e.u. but new arrivals here find themselves stranded in overcrowded camps like the
8:16 pm
notorious mariah camp unless boss more than 900000 people are crammed in here it was designed for just 3000 conditions are unbearable not only for those in the camp but also for the island sprays attends. they live animals inside moria and the other camps. they want to leave to find a better place. that's what we want is well. so we're fighting for them as well as for us. but government should go drown themselves this is not an acceptable situation our islands are like a war zone. i'm not saying illegal migrants are not humans they are humans but we don't want prisons yet. the government plans to build new facilities which will tightly restrict migrants movements but it is migrants will be processed what's released book quickly because of recent changes to the no the island the say they
8:17 pm
want to see the new arrivals read okayed it quickly and fairly throughout greece and the rest of europe. well for more now i'm joined here at the big table by now i'll see one of the architects of the use migration pact with turkey he's also leader of the think tank european stability initiative it's good to see you again i want to ask you about what the islanders in that story say they want to see a well structured redistribution of the people in the camps is that the solution in your opinion to the problems we are seeing on the greek islands. well the solution is anything that reduces the number of people held on a humane conditions so we need to have quick forward movement of the people arrive i get back to turkey if. it is safe to return them following a procedure or on to the mainland if they cannot be returned to turkey so the key
8:18 pm
of the agreement was always that people will stay on the audience for a very short period but this requires the resources to process their applications and that's what's been missing oh when we get here news that new camps or new facilities are being constructed for refugees then we automatically think that it will relieve the pressure on the overcrowded camps that exist already is that the case of war is there some deception in that advertising but it all depends on how many people arrive and how quickly they can be moved on last month in january and this explains i think the suspicion of the item this you had 2000 people moved to the mainland but more than 3000 the right so the overall number which is already on unsustainably bake and causes huge tensions has grown further and i think the key for the greek government and for this it will need help from others in the european union is to demonstrate to the islands that the 42000 who are now on the island will not be processed to be returned the resources don't exist i'm moved to the main in this quickly as possible and those who arrive new from now on will be in
8:19 pm
the process quicker in the new and hopefully more humane reception centers and then everybody would benefit the situation on the greek islands what does it tell us about the viability of this migration pact with turkey is the agreement working i mean it's clearly working on the turkish side last year 99.5 percent of the syrians more than 3 and a half 1000000 into he remained in turkey because their children go to school there and this is money from the e.u. for healthcare and education but it's clearly never worked on the greek side. and that is between easy to blame the greeks this is a european border this is a european problem. but i'm till now in 4 years of criticism and this is been true for the previous greek government officer risa which is an ally of the link in germany and this new greek government which is a member of the european peoples party and the c.d.u.
8:20 pm
both governments have said they don't see any alternative to this agreement the challenge is not to abandon it without an alternative if the challenge is to actually implemented as it was foreseen it's the only way for humane control here because you can see the plans there just has to be followed through with when it has to be i basically if people arrive to european laws and how they have to be treated they need to be doctors the police to protect but i was in that camp one year ago people were suicidal there were no psychologists to look after the children were out in tents in winter we had cases of rape and no police this needs to be assured and then people should stay on the islands as short as possible it should be a matter of weeks not years to show the canals as always it's good to have you and your valuable insights thank you i think you. well it has been said that her oscar winning performance in the 2007 film the queen proves that helen mirren is acting
8:21 pm
royalty and she's no one film wonder of course with half a century of powerful portrayals on screen and on stage this year she's being presented with the berlin international film festivals on the riri golden bear ward for lifetime achievement. helen mirren has made a career out of playing strong women often standing up to men. but she's a lot more relaxed in real life so what's the secret behind her stellar career. i was very lucky. and that was the truth of me but. my advice honestly is beyond time and.
8:22 pm
to anyone at any time. one of the early roles was in the london gangster flick the long good friday but she was no ordinary gangsters mall this was the early ninety's when strong female roles was still a rarity. for many fans a career high was had majestic performance in the queen she won an oscar for her portrayal of elizabeth the 2nd dealing with public anger at the royal family's response to the death of princess diana. despite the quintessential englishness of many of her roles mirin view says so if it's a european it's heart i love to europe and i it was the best thing to me absolutely the best thing that we are now a part of europe as opposed to sort of we had to sort of appendage to america you know which never felt comfortable with myself. and i will continue. to practice
8:23 pm
it you know it's a geographical thing it's a cultural thing it's interesting. and that's why she's especially happy to be receiving the golden bear at this year's barely know that it's a great. coming especially coming from berlin you know this is a very substantial film town mazing history of german film obviously but also the film audience is notorious so famous let's say for its critical eye all right there are some breaks a commentary there from bill yuki's queen of cinema let's take the story now to the home for you. on the red carpet for us tonight good evening to you too so we've got this honorary bearer for lifetime achievement for helen mirren what is it about her that makes are so special. yeah i'm sort of helen mirren she's such an iconic figure i mean i can't think of another actress
8:24 pm
with within range i mean she's the queen of england in the queen and then she makes a fast and furious movie i mean i don't know any other actors who could who could cross those boundaries so easily and so effortlessly i mean you saw him in the piece and in the short clips that we heard her for just acting for her. craft incredibly seriously but just seem to take herself that seriously plus it doesn't hurt that she's actually gorgeous i mean you know just just you know by the by i think she's royal and racy that's how i somehow or other when i was you know she played the queen so memorably in 2006 receiving it off oscar for that performance apparently queen elizabeth did watch that film as well and despite the fact it wasn't the most flattering depiction of elizabeth the 2nd she said she didn't mind it too much which is perhaps high praise from you know they have to be 5 i wouldn't mind if you paid me actually and of course if you wanted a credible c.v. going for a bad behavior they were going for the royal shakespeare company the youngest
8:25 pm
member you know to playing the queen which we'll see at the film which is being shown tonight i mean as a scot says she's just got this incredible range and she also holds that coveted 3 awards trinity of getting the tony as well for her work on broadway as one isn't anything work in t.v. series and the oscar as we just mentioned you know now tonight a golden bear and now the golden bear let's talk about the films in competition you saw the latest one today and i understand that that one was met with silence during the screening. but has to be said it was a fairly silent affair to begin with anyway i mean it's not a side of film there's an incredible soundtrack which mostly features condition isn't refrigerators but i mean this is of no dialogue no dialogue it's a film about 2 men who have an encounter one night in bangkok and then drift back into the every day fairly mundane lives it's a taiwanese story time in his film set in thailand and i think it's fair to say that we just reached a peak on how to show us that we don't take that as
8:26 pm
a criticism at least not for by sides some milling you see the director he create he's created this almost this new genre of cinema slow cinema these been doing for decades now and it goes against all the conventions of hollywood to get through the narrative to get through dialogue and this this film long slow shots but really invite you to do to slowly ease yourself into into a film i think it's an amazing achievement and i recommend it but it's a long long slow look ok we've got 20 seconds max interview which do you think is going to win the golden bear the top award. ok american film is going to be never really sometimes always allies and it meant phenomenal movie about abortion on going for t.v. history it's a french movie and i think it's great because it's a comedy for once that's what about it not any opiate that's right it's a reason to laugh when i'm free as got roxboro on the red carpet for us to you both thank you. and we could always use a good reason to laugh that's for sure all right you're watching the w.
