correspondent yulia han is monitoring the developments at the turkish border and she joins us now for the latest so you you've been speaking to people at the border today what have they been telling you. well it's been very tough for people here just imagine they came here after they heard the news that turkey would no longer stop refugees from trying to reach europe and then they arrived here and they realize the border is closed so they're basically stranded here and you can see it's many many people in this no man's land between the 2 border as there are many families here with small children it's a bitterly cold people are making far to keep a warm i can hear the children cry they are cold they are hungry some of them are

sick most people just took a few belongings basically coming here from other areas in turkey because they really have this hope that they could cross the border they could move on and go to graze i've been talking to one family of from stan a son for example and they told me they have been living here in turkey for quite some time but they don't see a future here they're hoping to go 1st to greece and then maybe on to germany but of cause the reality here is so much different from the dreams people have as i said it's very cold that's one of the the biggest problems here and of course the question also is what happens next with these people they don't know we don't know the uncertainty here is huge and many many people a very frustrated and desperate now yulia one of bounce on the other side of the border in greece how have authority has there been responding to this unfolding

human crisis. well the greek government said they would not tolerate any illegal crossings they have stepped up a border controls and here at this border crossing where i am greek border police has been firing up half a spray or tear gas it's not entirely clear what it is they are using but they have fired it repeatedly all morning and whenever they fire it you know it would cause kaos and people basically ran away i've seen that people coughing very badly some of them look to me as if they're about to faint of course they had tears in their eyes as well i've spoken to one young man from a found a stun earlier let's listen to what he had to say. i can get it into your barboza see the situation i'm not going so i don't think there's going to be a good fight on us for those of us who have children as the other one is that you

have disabled persons. or both of you have a job it's like ok. i don't know why they're doing this. so enormous amounts of frustration and desperation junia is there any indication that perhaps turkey or the e.u. could change their stance on the border situation here. well that remains very unclear as we speak but you have to understand where that's coming from i mean the interpretation here is that turkey is doing is turning a blind eye to all the refugees who are trying to pass to europe to increase pressure on its nato allies on the e.u. over the situation in syria as a province they want them to act turkey wants an international no fly zone for syria so the turkish government and i believe knows very well what kind of an

effect pictures like these ones have all of people trying to reach 0 in rubber boats a war violent land border crossings they know what kind of an effect they have they want to use these pictures to put pressure on europe so we have to see what happens next but some human rights organizations and the supernational for example has already criticised the situation and the political behavior here is saying that again people are being used as a bargaining chip in a political game w's yulia han at the turkish border we appreciate it thank you very much. now the united states and the taliban are set to sign an agreement aimed at ending nearly 2 decades of conflict in afghanistan a deal follows a year and a half of talks between the u.s. and the taliban in qatar both sides have committed to
1:07 pm
a reduction in violence the accord centers on the u.s. starting a phased withdrawal of his troops from afghanistan to number between 12 and 13000 in return the taliban has promised not to allow afghanistan to be used as a base for terrorist attacks against the west. for more let's go now to our correspondent shuttle shamas who's in doha covering the signing ceremony for us so shuttle today's deal follows nearly 2 years of pretty good negotiations is there now a sense of optimism in doha. yes we are here in doha and it is the place the city which where the u.s. and the taliban have had several rounds of talks so now they are about to seal in agreement which will likely and they have gone conflict obviously it will lead to
1:08 pm
an intro of gone dialogue so it is the 1st milestone it is not the last one that is much optimism here about it we have spoken to a number of people the delegates the experts and they're all pretty optimistic about it even. dollar bond burst and davis spoke with the media just recently and he said that the taliban are also committed to peace so it looks like . it is going through the deal will be inked shortly here in doha sheraton hotel. the national it is though important to remember that the afghan government was not involved in these negotiations this was only between the taliban and the united states so can we really expect today's agreement to lead to a real peace in afghanistan also for the afghan people. well
1:09 pm
enough gun delegation is here but they are not part of it but gone government has had serious reservations about these bilateral discussions between the u.s. and the taliban they wanted to be involved they still want to be involved but as i said this will lead to negotiations between all of gone the stakeholders and that is where president gunnies government will step in he has only formed a committee which involves many of gone players and they will also 'd take part in negotiations with the taliban the u.s. kind of forced the taliban to agree to talk to have gone representatives we must remember that the taliban have never recognized have gone government as a legitimate body but what we learned in munich couple of weeks ago.
1:10 pm
when the negotiations took place between. and president of lani the danny kind of is also now on board so we hope that the gone dialogue which could possibly happen in norway or in germany would pave the way for to the end of the conflict shortly it will take a while but like in months or weeks. and now the what will happen next then like once this agreement is signed what's next for afghanistan. well what is next is that you know here when we are not sure that secretary bill will sign the agreement or 'd. who is united states special envoy bought the dollar bond rep representative political representative so his shining will likely deal here once that is done obviously then it will lead to the
1:11 pm
dialogue between of gone players and under certain conditions we spoke to the people here you know the civil society experts from from afghanistan they are hopeful they say that the taliban have kind of agreed to commit to you know upholding human rights values vermund rights and everything it is hoped that you know they would be you know that they would really obey their commitments that they will agree here with the u.s. so it is just one part of the deal or the next step will be more crucially more complicated more complicated and it is going to be like you know will take several months but the 1st milestone will be achieved just now we have to leave it there for now. in doha thank you very much thanks for let's get a quick check now of some of the other stories making headlines around the world
