sometimes i. think you can trick german culture. stereotype if you think the country. is granma. it's all that. i make you join me. this. coming up. after. the us started an agreement to form the basis for peace talks in afghanistan but already fighting with the taliban. for peace in afghanistan. the victims of the riots are struggling to rebuild and restart and to find muslims
3:31 pm
and hindus take to the streets. possible. well. it's good to have you with us less than a week after signing a troop withdrawal deal with the taliban the u.s. has conducted an airstrike against taliban militants in afghanistan the air strike in helmand province was in support of afghan troops being attacked by the taliban that attack one of many get involved across the country by the taliban in just 24 hours the violence on the ground coming just hours after taliban leaders assured us president in a phone call that they wanted a secession of violence a situation meant to enable talks about peace in afghanistan to begin.
3:32 pm
the taliban celebrating after their historic deal with the us. the agreement in doha was heralded as a major step towards ending afghanistan's 18 new war 2 days later taliban fighters are back on the offensive carrying out dozens of attacks across the country afghan security forces came under deadly fire in kandahar and herat the worst violence in those with up to 20 killed came only hours after a phone call between u.s. president trump and the taliban's political chief i spoke to the leader of the taliban. we had a good conversation we've agreed there's no violence we don't want violence see what happens they're dealing with that but we'll see what happens. so far taliban leader mullah abdul ghani baradar has only negotiated with the u.s. and not afghanistan's elected government in kabul i see this interim afghan talks with president ashraf ghani administration words are to get underway next week but
3:33 pm
they already appear in doubt the taliban has made the talks conditional on the release of 5000 taliban prisoners a demand the afghan government refuses to meet meanwhile the pentagon is pushing ahead with its troop withdrawal in afghanistan and taking the long view on the latest taliban attacks you know this is going to be a long windy bumpy road there will be ups and downs and will stop and start that's going to be the nature of this over the next days weeks and months and so i'm not going to get too excited about what happens at the moment. an uncertain time for peace in afghanistan where no one appears ready to put away their guns just yet. 4 more journalists i do know if you drive from i only know u.s. forces have carried out an air strike against the taliban would you say this is the beginnings of the under of the door how do you. i think we're in
3:34 pm
a really odd state with the doha deal because what we've seen is that president trump is saying that he had a really good talk with the taliban and he really built them up and said they're in a good relationship and that he wants to see the violence come down right and that he feels like it's been assured but what we're seeing is that this is the 1st instance in 11 days where the taliban are really paying the price for attacking u.s. soldiers and what's even more interesting is that you know this is very was in response to an attack on u.s. military but since the. signing of the peace deal and since the breakdown of the 7 days of. for adoption and violence the taliban have been carrying out attacks on avalon civilians and have on military with nowhere professions from the united states so it really seems as if this deal is entirely between the taliban and the united states with no real interest for what's going on with the of our national security forces and the avalon people themselves. the question that ours is is how
3:35 pm
committed really is the. peace in the run a song. this is a question that everybody has you know is that what it seems is that they're committed to peace with the united states with the exception of you know what happened recently. over all these the much more committed to peace with the united states but no real commitment to peace with. people because we have seen multitudes of attacks in the last 4 days against our national security forces that have also killed civilians so again this is coming back to this point where this entire deal is especially between washington and the taleban with neither side really showing any interest for the state of the on people. of the future of the. of the door. to enter of on dialogue is also under threat right now because as part of that agreement that was signed on
3:36 pm
the 29th of february government was supposed to commit to releasing $5000.00 taliban prisoners now the day after the signing on march 1st the president of afghanistan are shocked when he said that he is not going to go through with. it release of the prisoners before the end of on talks and now the taliban are saying if the prisoners are released then the talks are all so everything at this moment is in flux yes there was a massive media spectacle in doha on the 29th of february but in the 5 days since everything else seems to be coming under question because it seems a what has ended up happening is that the taliban and the united agreed with each other and never took the afghan government into account and now the afghan government is trying to assert itself which is of course leading to trouble with the taliban. in kabul thank you very much for that.

produced 400. displaced. only last week left deep scars on the city and divided communities victims have been left to pick up the pieces with little support from the government and any hope for rebuilding shattered lives now rests heavily and i'm comfortably on people who are left with nothing to call their own girl sharon has given up hope of ever seeing her father again she's convinced he was killed in the riots which rocked delhi such was the carnage identifying his body has been difficult for a week she's been coming to the morgue looking for closure. i thought his whole body was burnt and only one leg was recovered so right now the doctors are saying how do we believe that it was your father you can't recognise anything through just one leg. but. the family must now wait for a d.n.a.

test to confirm their fears. last week's mob violence left many indians confused and afraid large parts of the capital were turned into battlefields homes and houses of worship torched in the washed religious riots and decades. after the common all riots in a communal clean up effort is under way this once a classroom no charred textbooks survived the fire outside the courtyard once failed with noisy children no pact with police the school bus barely recognizable. at this school we had half hindu children half muslim girls and boys study here together it's a co-educational school i can't understand why someone would do something like this . some of the victims ended up here a shelter for the muslim families made homeless by the wanton violence traumatised

by mauled their faith keeps them going but their future is uncertain. what i get when they attack us right after us we somehow managed to run away we didn't take anything with us only the clothes we were wearing we have barred clothes from people here we didn't bring anything with us now when i call the landlord he doesn't answer our phones he says he has broken our lock and asked us to never come back again i mean. that i'm there are voices of reason and hindu baseness owners from the riot areas marched together for peace. so much love between us we cannot live without each other heaven is a room you know to live with love and dignity and affection with each other you do that and for all times it is a powerful reminder that for all those who saw division many here remain united

did have a corresponding nimish address father has reported on the riots in delhi and joins me now from the indian capital mischa where you've been speaking to a number of people in these affected areas what have they been telling you. well british the sentiment among so why was continues to be that of shock and fear most of the survivors are still too afraid to go back to the neighborhoods where their homes were attacked they fled these neighborhoods close by neighborhoods that are protected and i living with friends and neighbors essentially the only people who have gone back to check if there's anything that they can salvage from the arson and loot that hit their homes now the delhi government the no kind of government has offered pieces of shelter medicine even one tree compensation but there's also been heavy criticism that this came late that this is not enough that it is not reaching enough people and that the majority often eat there 1st the brunt of it is being borne by really focus was civilians there have been civilian
3:41 pm
calls for aid and there are many who are gathering such relief mckiernan queuing santry bags medicines and all kinds of censures and shipping them over and finding the victims in these neighborhoods for not choosing to take shelter in many of the shelters the local government has provided in addition the national government has been relatively mute when it comes to the leaf work and this is also something which is inviting heavy criticism given that leaders often been shippey have been criticized and accused off actually inciting because it is also the police service coming for the 1st bit of criticism has it not been michel because people have been saying the lots of policemen were just standing by as mute spectators are voting continued is this being investigated. well definitely british that have been so serious allegations by eyewitnesses as well as by social media clips suctioned eating but no institutional investigation has been implemented that has
3:42 pm
been some criticism from the courts but again does not not going to do to call for an investigation civil society has failed to initiate investigations of its own the one ping that the courts have pointed out is that hate speech cases have not been there just stood by the daily police not these hate speech he says that has been a call for them against be chippy need those who made insane new deal provocative speeches but the delhi police has not actually fighting these cases and also that hasn't been any indications from the delhi police that they will investigate that into and the forces the people who were deployed on the ground and take any kind of action they have however filed multiple f.i.o.s. or basically for us information reports they have made many assists but not nothing so far about police complacency and at worst complicity from the that you can these numbers are there is fraud in delhi thank you very much for that. that's it for now you can head over to our website to double dot com forward slash through the show
