against terror and violence. and that is the measure by which we will be judged. president there earlier this evening i'm joined now in the studio by my colleague and our political correspondent. key you've heard the speech the president talking about responsibility there what did you make of what he had to say there are a lot of interesting elements in that speech one thing that stood out to me as well was when he said that this crime didn't happen by chance that there was actually a back story that to this a back story of of hate speech and exclusion and discrimination against minority groups here in germany and that was very carefully criticism of this normalization of far right rhetoric in germany in recent years a swipe if you will even at the far right. party but also it was interesting that he stepped back from some of the comments that he made initially after this attack
10:04 pm
as well saying by the symbolically that this was an attack that that was all and of course there was a lot of criticism for to the from the community in however this comments when they're older they understood symbolically what he meant it was fair enough that they also said to me while i was in had no no it doesn't affect everyone and you don't know what it's like every day to be ostracized and be constantly trying to prove your worth as a german and this was a very much at the center of his speech as well as i issue right now reigning in germany about identity and what it means to be you know the direct aftermath of the attack in the know it we've heard time and time again since then that this attack was a wake up call for germany i mean what did what have you heard i mean how bad is the far right extremists seen in this country well this was a wake up call germany has certainly missed many many alarms already this was the

the state jump of 28 people dying in just the last 24 hours the italian government announced today that it will close all schools and universities across the country until mid march so many people in corona's virus affected areas are concerned about being stuck at home if they have to sell foreign team and that is leading people are leading to people stockpiling food and other essential supermarket sherry's as you see here in many countries have been emptied out because of people panic buy in australia supermarket chains have had to start rationing toilet paper after shoppers started stockpiling. w.'s soccer is here now and you're not stockpiling toilet paper i understand but yet you have the what why are people doing this so this panic buying in australia started over the weekend after the 1st coronavirus death was confirmed then now it might sound a bit unnecessary just a part of part of toilet paper in australia 1st of all it's not
10:10 pm
a product that will stop the spread of the virus. it's there's no shortage of toilet paper and it's not strictly necessary for survival the apocalypse but panic buying of course is not a rational thing you might be worried yourself about the spread of this virus but you see other people start buying up this product you want to make sure that you are not left without toilet paper so it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy people think there might be a shortage and that creates. just saying that there is no shortage of toilet paper in australia yet the authorities are saying not but of course hash tag toilet paper gate is trending you know and people have been posting pictures like this you can see someone suggesting that maybe if you brush your kids in lieu role that that might protect them from the virus who knows but he's in australia have been of course a bit baffled by this but the prime minister is saying. i'll talk to supermarket chains that they can meet any spike in the bond as pike in the market ok there is
