2:07 am
ballots and exit polls have indicated some good news for former vice president joe biden early results indicate that biden will win the states of mississippi and missouri he's also leading in the race for the night's biggest prize michigan biden's rival vermont senator bernie sanders had been hoping a strong showing in michigan would help him close the gap between him and biden in the race for delegates. and for more here on the votes and the evolving political situation joined by william glu crotch so the numbers are good news mainly for biden good news for bite in bernie sanders keeps having more and more and more that it seems like he's to catch up. it's being called so far the 1st 3 states for joe biden michigan mississippi missouri let's let's be very clear these are projected wins not all the votes been counted
2:08 am
affected could easily be many hours or even if sometimes days for really we have a full vote count but it does look like that biden that i'm sorry michigan mississippi missouri is going to joe biden but let's clarify that it doesn't this is not a winner takes all system delegates get a lot of proportionally so right now we're looking at $690.00 delegates for joe biden 5 or $74.00 delegates for bernie sanders that's the current figure these numbers are going to continually change that maybe change right now based on how quickly these numbers are going up there are 352 delegates at stake tonight alone and the magic number is 1991 that's the just over the 50 percent mark of total delegates that you need to become the democratic nominee for president ok we're getting in kling's of good news for biden what is bernie sanders need to do at this point in the race i mean there's not much he can do he needs the voters that he that the people the especially young people who say they really love bernie sanders and are filling his advance filling his campaign stops they need to go out
2:09 am
and vote for him all this and susie has and that's fine bernie sanders has a lot of enthusiasm especially among younger people across race religion ethnicity all kind of cuts across all kinds demographics young people really are attracted to bernie sanders but also young people are historically the ones that vote the least so bernie sanders is a very uphill battle if he really wants to win and right now it's not looking so remember he won michigan in 2016 white handily over hillary clinton now is looking for the other way towards joe biden voters want. voters want someone who they think can beat donald trump and right now that's coalescing that ideas coalescing around joe biden not bernie sanders and you know american presidential elections are relatively speaking quite long drawn out things when you compare them with other countries what is the shape of the race going to be like on the democratic side in the weeks and months to come well now the question is if bernie sanders does not do well tonight he performed not great not terrible last week in super tuesday if he
2:10 am
doesn't perform well tonight there are fewer avenues for him to continue the question is would he drop out would democrats be able to push him out. in a way and will biden be able to become the nominee and sort of wrap this thing up before the primaries are really over if not of by then scuse me bernie sanders stays in keeps on fighting for states in the future primaries to come we could see ongoing contests all the way up until the national convention in the summer or they'll be the final delegate vote count and we'll have to see which candidate reaches that magic number 1991 or more to clinch the democratic nomination ok. thanks for that insight. russia's lower house of parliament has backed president vladimir putin's plans to allow himself to stay in office until 2036 he told the duma the changes to the constitution were necessary to guarantee the country's

future stability currently the russian president can only serve 2 consecutive terms if the changes are approved that limit would remain but mr putin would be allowed to run again by effectively pressing a reset button after his current term ends in 2024 and we just. but we are not passing amendments for a year or so or even for a decade i hope that they will be in power over a longer historic perspective. but at least 30 to 50 years time. and in such a long run people must have guaranteed was that regular changes of power are secured because of them we need to think of the future generations so i don't think it's worth removing the number of presidential terms from the constitution and we spoke to our correspondent emily sure one in moscow and i asked her for more information about what these constitutional changes will mean these measures
2:12 am
essentially if they are passed and if the constitutional court here in russia proves them they mean they they mean a kind of reset button for presidential terms here in russia after all president putin is currently in his 2nd of 2 consecutive terms his term in office and in 2024 and according to the current constitution he can't run again after that now these measures could remove that hurdle and could mean that he can run again in 2024 now we just heard him saying that he doesn't want term limits to be gotten rid of overall but essentially since he started his term in office people have been discussing what will happen next and when he announced constitutional changes in january everyone has been here experts have been theorizing about what that could mean for putin himself what role he could take on and it seems that he does want to stay president in what observers here have been calling
