the former vice president has won mississippi missouri as well as the night's biggest prize michigan results are a big blow to biden's rival for the nomination senator bernie sanders he had been banking on a strong showing in michigan to help him close the gap with biden in the race for delegates here's what joe biden had to say to his supporters. this election is the one that has character on the ballot you character the candidates the character of the nation is on the ballot it's more than a comeback and mark you our campaign it's a comeback for the soul this nation. this campaign is taking off and i believe we're going to do well from this point on take nothing for granted i want to earn every single vote in every single state. and for insight on the results joined the studio on it with. a good night for biden a very good night for biden and

a very disappointing one for bernie sanders all of this enthusiasm we've seen with bernie sanders at his events especially among young people didn't really come out to vote which is something we already were seeing in super tuesday last week our current our current count is at least $820.00 delegates in total going to joe biden and just $662.00 is the current stand for bernie sanders that's the total number of delegates in this entire primary season so far of which $352.00 of those delegates are being allocated allocated tonight so the momentum that biden picked up last week in super tuesday putting him out front is just continuing now today again as you just saw 820 to 16 those numbers will continue to change as results come in throughout the rest of the evening and the next coming days because it might be a few days before states really can put out official voting tallies what kind of a road ahead is there for bernie sanders
6:09 am
a difficult one by no means an impossible one but we just heard from joe biden he seems to to make it seem that this nomination is wrapped up many people in the democratic party would like to see this just wrapped up in the remaining primaries to go be more just a formality of course there is a mathematical ability for bernie sanders to catch up but he would have to do so incredibly well in the states to come almost dominating the states because it's important to note it's not just that biden won and bernie sanders lost some of these states it's the margin by which biden has won i mean 30 points in michigan sorry in missouri alone by bernie sanders isn't even viable in mississippi falling below the 15 percent threshold that you need to get any delegates at all so biden has really not just won but won by a large percentage in many of these states and is a big concern for the biden camp outreach and alienating the. sandor supporters as they continue to that's what some people are saying i mean every election cycle we hear the youth is the future but the youth never seem to vote as we're seeing is
6:10 am
been bernie sanders problem older people vote more conservative people tend to vote . and we're seeing that in this primary season as well so if the democratic party loses its youth vote is that going to be so important terms of the sheer numbers in terms of victory that might not be so important come november it's about getting the voter turnout and the people who do vote to come out to vote. bernie sanders is clearish clearly showing that his can't his strategy of game young people out to vote for him just hasn't really worked and just for you know american elections seen from outside. seem quite long and complicated but briefly what is the shape of the democratic. nomination campaign in the weeks months to come i mean there is still a primary season to go there still some 25 odd states to about half of the country still left to vote but as biden as the democratic party continue to coalesce around
6:11 am
joe biden to really make it seem like create facts on the ground that joe biden is the presumptive nominee is going to get harder and harder for these primaries to have any real meaning but these primaries will take place and the magic number is 1991 delegates we just mentioned that biden is around $820.00 so about halfway to the number of total number of delegates he would need to become the nominee or of course bernie sanders as well if he somehow able to eke out a mathematical miracle and that's what we're going to be seeing in the weeks ahead until the national convention in july when the presumptive nominee will become the actual nominee and go on to face donald trump in november and i'm sure we'll be talking to you lots in the interim blue cross thanks for analysis. the russian parliament has backed president putin's plans to allow himself to stay in office until 2036 when he would be 83 he told the duma that the changes to the constitution were necessary to guarantee the country's future stability currently the russian president can only serve to consecutive terms if the changes are

passed and if the constitutional court here in russia proves them they mean they they mean a kind of reset button for presidential terms here in russia after all president putin is currently in his 2nd of 2 consecutive terms his term in office and in 2024 and according to the current constitution he can't run again after that now these measures could remove that hurdle and could mean that he can run again in 2024 now we just heard him saying that he doesn't want term limits to be gotten rid of overall but essentially since he started his term in office people have been discussing what will happen next and when he announced constitutional changes in january everyone has been here experts have been theorizing about what that could mean for putin himself what role he could take on and it seems that he does want to stay president in what observers here have been calling a kind of sting operation to keep him in power. that was due to be correspondent
