becomes the latest coronavirus victim. the most important piece of the puzzle is missing the fastest the borders have been the find their clubs ignoring warnings to stay away over coronavirus fears with buddhist leader games called off until the start of april there's now a big question mark over the rest of the season. i'm on me and use of it's good to have you with us large parts of western europe are going into lockdown in a bid to stop the spread of the coronavirus we begin in france which has taken the decision to shut down all non-essential businesses french prime minister and announced that bars at cafes stores and most restaurants will have to close he described the corona virus as the biggest health crisis in a century france's tourist sites have already been shuttered as part of a nationwide emergency. measure authorities say 91 people have now died from the

corona virus in the country and 4 and a half 1000 others have been infected. for the latest from the french capital i'm joined by do lisa louis and paris hi lisa thanks for joining us so what is the mood like in paris right now the city of bars and brasserie well people had until midnight to have a last drink at a bruskly and bar the restaurant and they really use that time not only here in paris but also across the country been reading up on social media visit all the different newspapers have sent up their reporters to see what it's like in the boss across the country and it seems to be the same story everywhere everywhere people have gone out for a last meal before the lockdown because they don't know how long that will take and when will be the next time they will be able to go to restaurant air france and why did the prime minister take the steps now while he said that that he

needed to take these stress ignatius' because the french were disciplined enough that they weren't actually taking this seriously enough because he could see that lots of people were actually still going to bars to restaurants i could see that in my neighborhood really it seemed like nothing had happened although the government had earlier announced that gatherings of more than 100 people were banned and that people should be careful only take public transport when needed and try to work from home but people here seem to think this isn't really concern me so i can still go out and have a drink and now the government really puts once to put a stop to that so it sounds like a bit of frustration in his part but french president seems to have taken a different tact and decided to go ahead with local elections despite the shutdown so has this been a controversial decision. it's becoming more and more controversial by the minute almost because there are more more people from his own party from the

opposition coming out saying you know this is really not logical at all you're telling people not to go to bars not to go to restaurants and at the same time you're going to hold local elections tomorrow where there will be you know millions of people turning out to vote normally and even there has been a public letter a letter by 15 health professionals saying that this is really that it's heat hopin to think that because there are some measures put in place that people will be safe while they're very t'ing that this is actually an occasion where people get contaminated especially as the french are really used to giving each other kisses when they meet and staying close together and local elections are kind of a little celebration hand france as you said there have been some measures put in place what is a look like what steps are they taking. well there are local polling stations saying well they they've been saying that they will clean the. polling

station every few hours there will be a mosque there there will be disinfectant you know the jail that people can use and they can bring their own pen so the government is saying this is enough to protect people other people don't really agree with that there's a loser in paris thank you. we turn to spain now where the government has gone further than france and imposed a near total lockdown to fight the virus people are banned from leaving home except to go to work or buy essential supplies spain's prime minister pedro sanchez declared a national emergency for the next 15 days effective immediately public transport will be reduced bars or restaurants and most shops will close this after 1500 new infections and 70 deaths were reported in spain just between friday and saturday. spain is also working on a package of economic measures to help companies and workers get through the lockdown madrid has turned into

a ghost town instead of the usual traffic jams motorists have an easy drive through the capital the regional government has ordered the closure of bars and retail establishment only pharmacies grocery stores and newsstands can remain open many residents have fled the city to go to the countryside or the coast those still in madrid are trying to get by as best as they can. but i'm not so worried but i'm still thinking about the situation now we have to be brave and stick together. in a much greater time to show that we are a civilized country and comply with health regulations. going see and this gradually everyone is realizing that this virus spreads extremely fast. here several regions have already introduced strict measures authorities in catalonia sealed off for communities on thursday after the number of infections suddenly surged now the entire country is set to follow suit. denmark has reported its

president donald trump says a krone virus travel ban placed on $26.00 european countries will now be expanded to include the u.k. and ireland american citizens and residents would still be allowed to return home to the u.s. but they will face screenings and other quarantine orders the president from said he was also considering traveling with travel restrictions within the country to areas hit worse by the virus the spread of. but the big question is about the availability of virus testing i'm joined by correspondent mark is sure to and san francisco hi marcus thanks for joining us so president trump has himself been tested and he was tested negative for the virus but what prompted him to take the test in the 1st place. you know the president met with 2 brazilian officials at his resort in mar a lago in florida last weekend who tested positive earlier he was in contact at least with 3 people who have gone into south florida teen after

a conference of conservative activists and on top of that. the actor tom hanks and his wife tested positive as well as the canadian prime minister trudeau's wife so this left to repeated questions by the press why the president hasn't been tested for exposure or talking about a lot of famous and powerful people here but most americans don't have that privilege to get the test at the moment is there a push to change that. to be honest it was a long journey for the americans to get there 1st the president told the public in the past 3 weeks everybody could be tested but it became clear that this was not true there were not enough tests kids in the u.s. to try ministration and the c.d.c. the version of the german institute they came under a lot of pressure in the last 48 hours and just

a number only 22000 people have been tested in the u.s. in the last 3 weeks last 3 weeks whereas 22000 people have been tested in south korea in one day testing is crucial if you want to know where the virus is where the hot spots are but that's not the only criticism that's been lobbed at the health care system in the u.s. could you tell us more about that. yeah i mean one problem is that there are probably not enough bats and the new york times published an article today said that if the corona virus is spread like with that temple with that speed that between 200000 people and 1500000 people could die within the next 12 months here in the us. the pandemic is also causing problems for the democrats presidential election campaign
