words no goodbyes only pictures of their loved ones from those on the front lines meanwhile u.s. officials have done a u. turn on their face mask guidelines after initially stating they aren't necessary for the general public the center for disease control is now recommending face coverings that just bend down a scanned homemade masks bill the president has stressed they are not mandatory. well i just never were myself it's a recommendation they recommend. i'm feeling good i just don't want to be doing i don't know somehow sitting in the oval office behind that beautiful resolute desk the great resolute desk i think wearing a face mask as a great presidents prime ministers dictator kings queens. i don't see it for myself the mixed messages have left many in the u.s. confused and frustrated. and staying in the us

a navy captain has received a hero's farewell after he was dismissed from his post for criticizing the navy's handling of the pandemic captain brett crozier was chaired by his crew as can be same here in these cell phone videos that come out and have been battling an outbreak of the virus on his ship and demanded that he be allowed to evacuate his soldiers from the u.s.s. theodore roosevelt so far more than 150 people on the ship have tested positive for the virus and they dismissed him fanaa following proper protocol and allegedly causing panic by letting his complaint to leak to the media. report i'm in s.f. has been following the story and is here to talk it through with us i mean what's been the reaction to captain crotchets dismissal frankly his crew seems heartbroken he's been dismissed he had become something of a legend among his crew members for standing up for them now there are currently

over 150 confirmed cases of covert 1000 on that ship so people are getting worried and you can see that in the way that they support him here's a tweet from somebody on the ships that i would cherish the moment for the rest of my life he was a great commanding officer here's a person who she is a wife of somebody who's on the ship and said that she wants to thank him for saving her husband's life so these are life and death turns there and he was seen as somewhat. hero you also have politicians coming out in support of him like bernie sanders and joe biden and the navy has actually started to evacuate the ship which is what he had called for so they vaccinated 1500 people so it seems like they've also taken him seriously wow so is this a done deal or if they're going to likely to be political fallout from this well the navy seems to be sticking by its position even though it's complying with what he asked for they're standing by the position of dismissing him because they said that he broke protocol in copping people into an unsecured which allowed you know

to be leached to the media not because he had complained would be the way he had complained and several u.s. senators all of them democrats have called for an investigation into his firing so i think we're going to see this story for a little while longer. and there's also another ship actually a navy ship that's part of the controversy over the corona virus in the travel mr ations handling of that there's a ship docked in the new york harbor right now called the u.s. and comfort it's a navy hospital ship and it's designed to take 1000 patients but it only has a few dozen and that's because the military protocol again because they are not allowing coronavirus patients on to the ship which might sound kind of absurd but they said that they want to help hospitals relieve hospitals of other patients but they also sent hospitals a list of 49 other medical conditions that would disallow them from coming on the ship ambulances aren't allowed to take people directly to the ship they have to go to hospital 1st and get try and get a test for the current virus before they come on the ship so currently sitting

there with only about 20 to 30 patients on board so people are seeing this as another failure of the military to adapt to the current crisis now trump as commander in chief could step in and do something about that but people are saying that he hasn't you certainly wouldn't want to be a patient on a ship that was getting about of corunna. an absolute disaster i mean he said thanks so much for looking into this story for us. now let's take a look at some of the other covert 19 related stories italy has reported its 1st drop in intensive care patients since the outbreak of the corona virus pandemic currently there are around 4000 people in intensive care however officials warn the country will continue its lockdown for at least another month. israeli police are widening a crackdown on ultra orthodox jewish communities for continuing to ignore social distancing rules or thorazine have been carrying out raids in orthodox neighborhoods around the country after many emerged as coronavirus hotspots they've

also locked down the city of may break outside tel aviv. china has held a nationwide 3 minute reflection to honor the victims of the corona virus outbreak chinese president xi jinping was among the mourners air raid sirens wailed and flags were at half mast the virus has killed over 3000 people in china. more than a 1000000 people globally have now tested positive for the corona virus but the actual number of cases is thought to be much higher with many of those afflicted not even aware they're infected now researchers here in germany are joining the international effort to understand the full extent of the corona virus and demick they're carrying out a new test that aims to find those who may have already had the infection and could now be immune. this machine could bring relief from isolation for some here at the

clinic in munich doctors who not only test for the corona virus they can also see if patients unknowingly contract to the virus in the past more than $100.00 samples can be processed in an hour this is how it works. the sample vials are coated with building blocks from the viruses surface if antibodies are detected in the patients of blood they will attach to the blocks the virus can then be the texted with a different antibody that carries a dye and changes the sample color if positive in addition to patients the new machine will also allow health care workers to be tested. one but not till it isn't test has will of course be offered to personnel working in infected areas which will allow us to know who has already have the virus and has built up immunity after how do i need one far it's thought the antibodies could provide immunity for years to come for those with antibodies that could mean a return to normal life it's hoped that people who work in other sectors could soon

be tested by the general practitioner. and he body tests have already been approved in the u.s. and to tell us more about it i'm now joined by dr andrea final from the health finance institute from harvard university and if thanks for joining me tell us why are these tests so important thanks so much for having me on this test very important because to provide conclusive information not only whether chris is infected but also whether this person has developed immunity eighteen's is infected so this can be used for 2 purposes really joel out those that have immunity to reenter society which has others have said could actually jump start the economy again but also for congress and has not only shion to those who are infected so the site. is going to ask you how extensive the new testing is likely to be
9:11 pm
who's going to be able to access it and who'll be tested. it really depends on how fast this test can be rolled out as i understand there is some testing going on for $100.00 are studies 400000 persons in germany right now and it's probably going to be a couple of months until we really know how well these tests so working in terms of how the big the positive predictive value is of these tests and also how long this immunity lasts is one thing to detect infinity it's another thing to have lasting immunity so it's still in there in an early study face so we will probably watch this very closely over the coming months how accurate is this test to go on these tests. i think are still too early to tell we will probably know after having studied as significant amount of persons i know as i mentioned 100000 people are involved in germany right now and a positive pretty good value i need i would need to in the coming weeks we can probably determine that. how how can these antibodies can i help patients who
9:12 pm
tested positive for the virus. it can actually be so it's called convalescent plasma so and that's been shown in some clinical settings to actually be effective as a treatment so basically in other nations to of those that have antibodies can be used to treat those who have the disease doctor and if i go from home to diversity thank you very much thank you so much. for weeks now health workers and activists have been warning of catastrophe if the corona virus spreads through great says overcrowded migrant crap camps that moment may now be drawing close the covert 9 tain has now arrived at one camp near athens feeling fears that a broader outbreak could sweep through some of the most vulnerable populations in europe. the threat experts have long feared has now arrived at the ritz sunnah
9:13 pm
refugee camp north of athens at least 23 people here have tested positive for coronavirus the camp is now under quarantine no one can leave for security reasons refugees who arrived in greece after march 1st are being housed separately they're at a greater risk of infection that people are coping without with a few exceptions of some youngsters that's right to believe that come and actually sneak out of the come as we say but still they were caught in the tent back to the can. the situation is far worse on the island of lesbos the maria migrant camp is designed to house 3000 people there are currently more than 20000 here people are living in squalid conditions without enough washing facilities or doctors and social distancing is impossible an outbreak of current virus here would be catastrophic. living increases other crowded camps are at high risk as well.
9:14 pm
so you must be since not enough testing is being done it could be that there are already cases of the infection in the camps that are and yet known we have. the greek government has pledged to bring at least a few 100 older refugees from the islands to the mainland the european countries including germany have agreed to take in $6600.00 unaccompanied children the 1st of them will be picked up on monday. and take a look now at some of the other stories making news this hour britain's. the main opposition labor party has named keir starmer as its new laeta the shadow brecht's it secretary was one of 3 candidates for the labor leadership and won with more than 50 percent of the vote he'll replace jeremy coleman who resigned after december's general election with prisoners. in southeastern france 2 people have been killed in a knife attack on residents venturing out to shop in a town under lockdown several others were also injured the alleged attacker was
