make of germany's germany reopening schools at this point is that the right decision it's a difficult thing because of course on one hand we have the numbers of cases that are no going back up so it does seem like on the one hand we have the kids who are stuck at home with parents and need this social interaction you need to schooling and on the other hand we do want to really watch out for the safety of our children well speaking of the safety of the children are you worried about the risk that this poses not only to the children's health but to the health of their families. i think there is concern there because of course not every family deals with the shutdown in the same exact way and have different ways of dealing with the social interactions and who they're interacting with and of course when you're sending your children to a school with other children you can no longer keep track of who they're meeting

with and how why does that not in that circle is so of course there is the risk that they could be bringing it back home do you have the impression that berlin schools are prepared for this step. it's a it's a it's a difficult thing i know that in our school we've had parents that have stepped up to make masts for instance and the schools are taking measures to really make sure that the hygiene. regulations are are kept. up to date and also to really make sure that the teachers stay as safe as they can of the staff it's a it's a challenge. i think they are doing the best they can and we're all in new territory so it does make it a challenge for sure. homeschooling talking about new territory that was a big issue in recent weeks with parents having their kids at home what was your

experience with. my own personal experience it was like being thrown off the deep end i don't feel like i was equipped to be an art teacher physical education teacher or a math teacher or a german and an english teacher and it was definitely a challenge i think the teachers certainly in the staff in our school have done a fabulous job trying to digitalize and a very very short period of time and we as parents you know are coping as best we can with our own careers and time constraints that we have on our time as well as trying to make sure that the children do learn something during the day it is an incredible challenge but i think over the last 4 weeks we've all learned so much that it's almost as if we're trying we're starting to get into a groove of things so it's expend i think now a good experience we're finally now getting into it and and now there's the consideration of them going back. sara blakeslee chair of berlin kids international
