camp they are now bound for the mainland after spending months in squalor in the morgue account on lesbos and the formula electric racing series is on hold until at least july because of the coronavirus but there's an alternative to drivers are now competing on virtual circuits for germany's maximillian go into it's an ideal way for drivers to maintain their skill. i'm sorry kelly he walked into the program world leaders have pledged 7400000000 euros for efforts to develop a vaccine and treatments for co that 19 the amount pledged during a video conference of international donors fell short of the 7500000000 euro target set for the event now european commission president or so the funnel line chaired the fund raiser with contributions from heads of state. and government banks and

charitable organizations u.k. germany pledged 525000000 euros united states and russia were notably absent from this of that. series of underline said the fund raiser was an important 1st step but that much more would need to be done in order to sustain a global research effort today is a defining moment for the global community at a time when we are sitting further apart than usual the world has shown it is standing closer together than ever before but more much more will be needed in the months to come today sprint was a great start for our man from the marathon is the way i have now we need everyone on board. i thank you all and today we can truly say the world is united against the coronavirus and the world will win. the war on that and
7:03 pm
a whole lot more we are joined by w.'s chief international editor richard walker in brussels richard the huge chief funder i'm saying it there the world is united against the coronavirus is a true. i think it's pretty hard to to find agreement with was a love from the line on that point isn't it sarah i mean the most glaring thing about this meeting you just mentioned it earlier is the absences and russia was also one of the absent. chairs there of course but the united states is the most glaring one of all and in a way it's not surprising really reflects the fact that the united states has said that it's pulling funding from the world health organization which is the absolute lynchpin of if this effort to coordinate the global response on the medical level to the coronavirus and it really was striking watching this this video conference
7:04 pm
unfold leader after leader said how important it was for the world to work together to cooperate i'm going to merkel for her part for instance at the end she said that she thought that this meeting was an important signal in a world in which we don't always work as multi-laterally as i would like but there doesn't really seem to be much hope that that multilateral action is going to improve at the moment with the united states sitting this out and slipping seemingly deeper and deeper into a blame game with china about who's responsible for this outbreak and for its part china it was there but it only sent a very low level delegate and there was no new pledge of money from china so i think it's pretty difficult to show love on the lines optimism on that point and how much optimism is there richard when it comes to the amount of money $7400000000.00 euros raised today how much more is needed. yeah we're falling very
7:05 pm
very slightly short of the target that they had for this and this money specifically was identified as a shortfall within part of the world health organizations funding structure so this money is seen as important but it is really just the beginning as as from the line just said earlier now various numbers are bandied around it could be maybe up to 5 times this amount but we still have to put that in proportion the amounts of money the international. economy is pumping into their economies to stave off the economic and the social effects of the virus far far outweigh this amount of money that the european commission itself at the moment is working on a plan for recovery fund for the european economy for when the pandemic is beginning to end and numbers for that have been bandied around up to 1.5 trillion euros 1500000000000 so whatever some it costs in the end to get of the vaccine and
7:06 pm
to get that vaccine around the world that is going to be something of a bargain richard walker with a view from brussels thank you. 3 research from a virus hotspot here in germany is shedding new light on the spread of the virus in the country a study from the hard hit district of heinsberg estimates that only one in 10 coronavirus cases in the country has been diagnosed now it's highlighted the dangers presented by all identified carriers as germany takes further steps to open back up again. the priority for these germans was pretty obvious queuing at the hairdresser's 1st thing on monday one basis for the discussion on further easing of the rules might be found in a new li published study on covert 9000 cases in the western german district of heinsberg it suggests that 1800000 people may have been infected nationwide 10 times the number previously confirmed

as the threats of the chrono virus outbreak an estimated $18000.00 migrants live in or around the more you refugee camp which has been under lockdown for over a month this is the 1st large transfer since the lockdown to be counted. and porter i mean as it has reported from morea camp on last post for us he joins us now here in the studio so i mean we have aid organizations human rights watch doctors without borders they're calling on the greek government i mean to step up transfers and evacuate this camp why is it so urgent right now there's 2 reasons for this the 1st which gets a lot of play in the media is that people are worried what if so what if the virus gets to this camp we're talking about overcrowded conditions were 18000 people are living in a space plan for 3000 sometimes 1300 people using one tab so people are worried that if the virus ever gets there it will be too late before they discover the 1st

case it think even thousands could have it before anybody has any symptoms and this would put so much strain on the hospital situation in lesbos where they only have one high. little with equipment to treat monia that it would be an extreme disaster the 2nd thing though is not even what if what is happening now so the campus under lockdown which has caused conditions to be even worse than they ever were and that's why they're asking for this this camp to be evacuated immediately what does lockdown look like and moria it's pretty strict so from 7 pm to 7 am nobody is allowed to leave the camp and then during the day only about 100 people an hour are allowed to leave now 100 people are sounds like a lot maybe but we're talking about 18000 people and in the camp that means a very small percentage of people ever get to leave the camp during the day and what this does is put this massive strain on the resources when i was there i saw how people supplemented the resources they were getting by going out to grocery stores and getting food but what you see now is that people are having to make do
7:11 pm
with the official distribution of food in the camp which leads to situations like this we have a video that was sent by a german n.-g. o. that shows a massive lunch line and when i was there people said it was already 2 to 3 hours a day now it's upwards of 678 hours even sometimes people not getting any food at all they have to wake up before daylight to get into this line you can see this just goes on through the entire camp we're not even halfway to the end now and what this means is some people are just going hungry this is caused tensions unbelievable tensions people getting in more fights they're trying to escape coroutine and risk losing their asylum applications status. because they broke quarantine incredible the video just keeps going and is there now and even when you get to the end here the still they still have to get their food so as to get a lot of showers greek authorities we know have already transferred 400 asylum seekers now to the mainland is this now the beginning of an evacuation we don't know yet if this is going to continue and that's the problem because more people

are still coming to moria also 400 is just a drop in the bucket so it's a good sign that they're finally opening is up to transfer as 1st time since the lockdown began but we don't know if it's a real change in policy it or part i mean yes if what the view of the reinvention that you have reported from moria before. we thank you so much for bringing us up to date on what's going on there now thank you. the german soccer league the d.f.l. says that there have been 10 positive tests for coronavirus among the 36 clubs in the bundesliga and the 2nd division the league says that over 700 tests were carried out over 2 rounds among players and staff cologne previously reported 3 positive cases the tests are part of the d.f.l. hygiene concept as it is to restart the season this month is wednesday the german government is expected to decide whether to allow games to resume in empty stadiums . also motor sports now and with the formula electric racing series on hold until
