media companies comes after twitter flagged his tweets for accuracy's trump says it was an effort to stifle free speech but his order is likely to face stiff legal hurdles. and condemnation of china after it approves a new security law in hong kong the decision is likely to further inflame tensions in the territory for protests have escalated this week. i'm loyal cruft good to have you with us the national guard has been deployed to the u.s. city of minneapolis on the 3rd straight night of unrest protests some of them violent are a response to an unarmed black man dying in police custody there earlier this week . further trouble is expected at the city's mayor has called for criminal charges to be filed against

the officer who arrested the man george floyd for allegedly using counterfeit money the u.s. department of justice has launched an investigation into his death and critics are calling the incident fueled by racism. let's go to dave you correspond to from siemens who's in minneapolis for us stephanie what's the latest where you are right now. ali my going to tell you this is not a protest anymore here in the 1st night now in minneapolis this is a riot right behind you right behind me actually i'm sorry that was a pawn shop and it was in the gulf in flames the smoke so thick and a few a few minutes ago i had to wear those last blocks your goggles to actually be able to see anything and not start crying because the smoke was so sick so people here are still of course very angry and they're angry against the police we hear a lot of people yelling explicit if the police the explicit of the police we hate
5:03 am
the police so this is not the. situation. by any means even if earlier in the day the governor as well as the local authorities here pleaded with protesters to calm things down and to abstain fun from violence but this has not happened as you can see maybe the left overs here there's nothing left of 2 buildings here and this is just the beginning of the night how have authorities been dividing the the people causing the violence and the looting versus the groups of people who are protesting peacefully and legitimately. i have to say that the police at least here and i can speak for down the street where there's also a protest still going on and we will make our way there of course but. for he i only can say that police here are really really restrained and they're able to dissect between troublemakers and at least they're trying to dissect it to troublemakers
5:04 am
and people who are really protesting for the cause here but as you can see clearly all the pleading doesn't really bear any fruit right now. fire department police protection for the fire trucks are here to take out fires along the streets here this is lake street pretty much every store is boarded up and the store owners are staying in front of their stores or in this course with baseball bats and what have you just to be prepared for the worst if the worst is happening stuff and so what is the plan right now to try to get this situation under control. the plan this is a very good question the governor said that the national guard will be deployed and . from how it looks like here local authorities are actually really in need and the community here is the need to have some added security patrolling the streets perhaps tomorrow i haven't seen any national guard personnel and so for now however
5:05 am
that's what authorities say well it's going to happen the government has as you know declared an emergency so a national guard will show up probably in a few hours if they break tomorrow who knows but i really need to say that you know this is a really hard blow for this community because of course you know we're in this mess for a coronavirus everybody knows this by now but and of course now because of the smoke but this is a devastating blow for them there are out of business for the last almost 2 months and now they have to deal with rioting and with the p.r. image loss for minneapolis because of what happened to george floyd now having said that most people here in minneapolis the people we talked to the store owners we talked to they are for protests they are seeing. sickened by the seeing the video and seeing the images of george. dying. of a police officer but it is tough for them to take what's going on here and

i think everybody is hoping for the best. definitely a city of contradictions right now stuff i'm seen as a minneapolis thanks for bringing us the latest from there. and staying in the u.s. we turn to the power of the president's pen versus the power of social media donald trump has signed an executive order of it aims to make social media companies liable for what users say on their platforms much like newspapers already have to trump signed the order after twitter fact checked his tweet earlier this week trump accuses twitter of trying to stifle free speech and influence the outcome of this year's presidential election twitter says the tweets violated its rules. i'm joined now by d. w's washington bureau chief alexandra fun naaman alexandra let's get into this what legal protections does trump want to remove with this executive order. well
5:07 am
president said today that he's just defending free speech in america and he accused the large social media platforms of having unchecked power to restrict to censor and to alter virtually any form of communication between part private citizens and large public audiences and his executive order its purpose is to curtail the power of the social media companies by calling on regulators agencies to take a hard look at the existing bill if you protections that shield those companies from lawsuits that basically shield them from being held responsible for the content that is posted on their platforms try to help me understand this because trump who has 80000000 twitter followers has benefited from these current internet internet speech laws that prevents companies from from lawsuits from content that people like president trump post so how could this move possibly backfire on him.
5:08 am
well william you're right the logic behind this executive order is intriguing and that's actually what's always a wanted and wants to publish his posts whatever he has to say without any limitations even though. they are wrong or false statements or derogatory comments and his executive order attacks the very legal provision that allows him to do so with impunity so it's sort of difficult to understand but we have to say that this move today the signing of this executive order placed he's space because by starting this battle this war with silicon valley he is doing something that will be very popular with his supporters and he can say look there is a conspiracy there are large media groups that don't want me to get reelected there is only one voice that you need to trust it is my voice so politically speaking may

be a short term win for him but long term legally speaking it could be a long path for any of these kind of laws to really be changed to take effect what happens next. well this executive order is on shaky legal grounds no doubt about that plenty of lawyers have already said that that it could be even unconstitutional that the president doesn't have the soroti to change the legislation that was passed by the u.s. congress so what we are going to see is that of this executive order is going to be challenge and for some of these truck down by the courts all right alexander phenomena in washington thank you very much. china is the target of international criticism for its plan to restrict public protests in hong kong pro-democracy advocates say the law violates hong kong's autonomy provided under the one country 2 systems agreement with the mainland and

beijing. i managed to shut that shoshanna in shenzhen quanto all beijing which would be really terrible and like that's no differences of hong kong and china china says the new law will benefit hong kong's long term prosperity and stability in the u.k. u.s. a strong and canada was swift to condemn the move we are deeply troubled about this step and we put out a joint statement and the decision now lies with china but if it follows through on this legislation and implements it it would clearly violate the autonomy of the people of hong kong. they have also been closed in germany to reprimand china over the incident obvious that we just cannot sit down and watch the national wall being brought by chinese government and it's obvious that the implementation of the national security legislation would do exactly this so it's obvious that the european countries have to come together as soon as possible to talk about the

easyjet is cutting $4500.00 jobs that's 30 percent of its workforce but it's far from the only airline suffering from the coronavirus pandemic the entire industry has lost significant altitude. easyjet is another inevitable victim of the virus which has infected every single european airline of course it's the workers who are suffering most as the businesses slash labor costs to stay afloat it's not just easy jet the rest of the industry is also slashing jobs ryanair and virgin ascent to cut $3000.00 each with british airways to let go of $12000.00. outside of europe the story is the same and not just airlines but plane makers too some have gone out of business others reducing staffing costs wherever they can the biggest figure to date emirates is reportedly preparing to cut up 230000 posts some airlines including easy jet are already taking careful steps to reopen their networks so why
