unarmed black man dying in police custody there earlier this week further trouble is expected the city's mayor has called for criminal charges to be filed against the officer who arrested the man george floyd for allegedly using counterfeit money the u.s. department of justice has launched an investigation into the death critics say the incident was fueled by racism. just days after the death of an unarmed man the anger remains on the streets of minneapolis. yet he's 9 shouted by peaceful protesters who echo his final words like yeah. yeah. the tension hangs thick in the year even as the smoke clears from the night before in which anger ignited parts of the city local stores were set ablaze others looted . it was a reaction to the graphic video that captured the final minutes of george floyd's

life you know. the black community left fuming and looking for the law to now to shoot the offices in question with the same for all city as it did the handcuffed george floyd then you know now. we want justice we want you know the officer to be held accountable for his actions that is. all fine. local and federal authorities tried to lower the temperature at a joint press conference but instead raised eyebrows by asking the community to bring forth more evidence. we need the community's help there were people there on the scene not both that we couldn't buy necessarily at the time we need to know who they are come forward if you have a video please share it we want to do it quickly as we can a thorough investigation to get answers to those questions in the hours that followed those words it soon became abundantly clear that for the black community

of minneapolis justice is not being served fast enough. i'm joined now by g.w. correspondent stefan seaman's in minneapolis stuff and what's the latest where you are. where there are right say that minneapolis at least there where we are here is a. on fire if the camera can pan to the side here you see a building on fire but that's not the only one of course there's about 5 or 6 buildings c.-a including the police precinct building precinct 3 building on fire behind me as well as a tobacco store and a liquor store people here are still angry very angry and they're saying all most of them at least saying that whatever happens right now here rioting not protesting is actually justified because authorities and the elites need to understand in their words that this is the end they are sick and tired of things
7:05 am
happening as they did to george floyd's and this is the result however i have to say we also have talked to protesters who say and i call them protesters who say that this is nothing to do with the protest anymore this is rioting and looting and we have witnessed this year and it's midnight so there's still a few hours to go here. and that precinct that you mentioned if i understand correctly is where the officers in question that caused this death or allegedly caused this death that that was their precinct so a lot of anger is you're expressing as you're showing here what explains this apparent escalation night 3 of these protests. well really have no better explanation is what people are telling me here and this is really that they are fed up fed up with with what happened to george lloyd's to gardner to trevor martin is that for i mean. there is a lot of anger here there's
7:06 am
a lot of frustration people are not really really buying into mayor governor and others saying that they're trying to ease everything here and do a solid investigation of course they will do that but there is at the moment here not a lot of patients to listen to this and actually to believe this right so as you point out there's the protesters on one side there's looters on the other side how are authorities are addressing the legitimate concerns while looking or trying to restore order to the city well that's a very good question for restoring order is not happening here police absolute no show all evening long the fires are burning the fire department is no way to be seen and the national god i haven't seen anybody from the national guard either
7:07 am
anyway however that is maybe understandable because this is a very dangerous situation after say the people here also have guns and they're shooting in the air so there's fireworks going off and all those buildings you see in the background or what you can see around me here on fire they all. not only are in flames but they're in danger to go in to blow. so that's not a good situation for any police officer here or firefighter or maybe even national guards personnel all right stuff and siemens in minneapolis thank you for your reporting. staying in the us the us president donald trump has signed an executive order that aims to make social media companies liable for the content on their platforms much like newspapers already are trump's move follows twitter fact checking his tweets for the 1st time for an accuracies. he calls it protecting freeze while the social

business and technology sector is the order could cook freedom of speech across the internet while legal experts are warning that it conflicts with the existing law which only the congress and not the president can change it really is a complete misreading of section $230.00 it takes. a law that has been interpreted time and time again very very broadly by multiple federal circuit courts and just says i'm replacing all of this with my own interpretation that i have no right to give about how to interpret this law and so no it's really not going to any staying power in a court i may really use kind of a piece of bread or a ball or that means the order will likely be challenge in court ahead of the november presidential election. earlier i spoke to the abuse washington bureau chief alexander phenomenon and i asked her what could be done in terms of motivation i'm signing this controversial executive order logic behind this

executive order it's intriguing and that's actually what's trump always a wanted and wants to publish his posts whatever he has to say without any limitations even though. they are wrong or false statements or derogatory comments and he's executive order a text the very legal provision that allows him to do so with impunity so it's sort of difficult to understand but we have to say that the signing of this executive order placed to his space because by starting this battle this war with silicon valley he is doing something that will be very popular with his supporters and he can say look there is a conspiracy there are a lot of media groups that don't want me to get reelected there is only one voice that you need to trust it is my voice. now let's turn to some
