where we're sure to go. ok thank you officer writes that while that does appear to be a rather tense situation but overall how would you characterize police conduct in minneapolis. well i would say they did their job today at least as outlined by their superiors less politicians governor of the state as well as the municipal government here remember they didn't show up to the last 3 days before today or nights. just yesterday we had a curfew installed here too but there was no police no national guard actually even close to be able or willing to enforce this in this has changed today conduct as you can see in this scene where my camera man morgan i had this encounter just a little bit of context 3 police cars had actually encircled another t.v.

production team we don't know from what network and as we do in the field here we then rushed there and tried to document this not to interfere about document this and as you saw nerves were. a little bit frazzled there. can somewhat understand this because those those policemen are under a lot of stress doing their job but of course they should have let us work and do our job but you know what do you do you not. i was a we were not about to pick a fight tonight. stefan seaman's reporting from minneapolis we appreciate it. well george floyd's death has also sparked demonstrations internationally including here in the german capital hundreds rallied in front of the u.s. embassy in berlin in solidarity several groups had called for the rally and social

media under the motto justice for george floyd against racism police violence and just a few miles away graffiti of floyd was painted onto a section of the berlin wall together with a caption i can't grieve. for more let's talk to diana r.c. she's a berlin based artist and activist and also the founder of the anti racism empowerment project white guilt clean up diana thank you so much for joining us so what relevance does the death of george floyd have to people outside the united states and especially here in germany. good morning. yeah i think who are black germans particularly or any black people any black people who are living in germany it's just a sign of what is happening it's a sign of what's to come in germany if germany consider continues on the course
10:06 am
that they're currently on the united nations. to report what i think 2 years ago and stated made some very very clear statements about how german laws do not do enough to protect people within the within the borders of germany. all right well what can you tell us about how people currently are organizing in berlin to support people of color. well i can't speak too much to how people are organizing to support people of color i work primarily in grassroots organizing for. supporting black people and there's a lot of different things going on there's several collaboration's and coalitions that i've been putting to being put together one of the biggest issues that we have here in germany is that of aggregated statistics racial statistics for police violence aggregated races to test it for incarceration for death in custody none of
10:07 am
this stuff is actually available so some different groups have been putting this to get together and working on this like reach out and talk and there are several big campaigns that have been being supported for a very long time. that have start in the last 2 years including a ban racial profiling because now racial profiling is legal and what is legal in berlin and each one teach one has actually started this year an afro census where they're asking black tie a sport people in germany to fill out a census so we can have a better overview of what is really the of black experience in germany. went with all of these demonstrations in the united states across that country outside the u.s. do you see this enormous response to george floyd's death in police custody somehow a kind of turning point. no not at all i think. one of the
10:08 am
issues in germany in particular is that white anti-racist activists feel that they need to come and speak every time there is a death or a murder in the united states but there have been plenty of murders in germany plenty of deaths in custody that have not been solved already giallo in 20082005 still has not been solved he died in police custody and. in the state in which that's occurred actually never. the state last year i believe it was last year of those year before last year the year before they actually on the last day of black history month decided not to continue investigating. this particular case of this black man who died in police custody in 2005 and so for us it's a thing of we see we see white activists we see german activists come out and speak about what is going on in the united states in a very u.s. centric way without really acknowledging the problems that are happening here in
10:09 am
germany and how dangerous that is for jerk for black black people including black germans to exist inside of germany are i diana r.c. berlin based artist activists we appreciate all your in science thank you. let's get a check now some of the other stories making news around the world if in israel and president nicolas maduro has announced an increase in gasoline prices for the 1st time in 20 years aims to choke off the black market in fuel as the country suffers supply shortages that's despite holding the world's largest crude reserves u.s. president donald trump is postponing of the g. 7 nations that was planned for next month until september or later the summit had already been delayed once due to the coronavirus pandemic trump said the list of it might tease should be expanded to include australia russia south korea and india.

for the 1st time in nearly a decade nasa astronauts have taken off from american soil and are on route to the international space station they were launched into orbit by the private company space x. the test mission is being heralded as a new era in space travel with the private sector propelling not only astronauts into space but anyone who can afford the ticket to write. that. or. you. hear of it is that. either. a lift off for the history books for the 1st time ever a privately developed spacecraft has entered days or space with us tonight some boards the falcon x. rocket blasted off from the kennedy space center with u.s.

president donald trump watching from the grimed. this is the 1st big space message in 50 years think of the. and it is an honor to be delivering it. today as we gather in this special place to celebrate not only the large of a new state square but also our nation's gold and dry off and return to the stars the beginning of a new era for us space exploration understanding achievement for us company space x. it comes after 18 years of experimentation and setbacks. space x. founder musk became emotional speaking of the challenges that still lie ahead i think it was knowing that that the return is. more dangerous in some ways than the ascent so would order declare victory. we need for your home safely.
10:12 am
but. there are going to get talked up here so. it's really even. though i don't i'm going to treasure and astronauts bob behnken and doug hurley are due to spend 2 months at the international space station before returning to earth. let's bring in mark and cochrane from east south which is the european space agency in the netherlands mark thanks for joining us so this is being called a new era in space travel do you also see it that way. well 1st things 1st you know it was a very nervous occasion yesterday and very very happy to see both doug and bald safely on orbit it's a new vehicle so it's great that everything went well we have to remember though it's the 1st of a series of new vehicles which will be taking astronauts including european

nationals into space in the next few years boeing starliner comes next and then the big one in particular for europe is the iranian vehicle sitting on top of what's called s.l.s. because europe is a major player as a major component of that capsule so yes in many ways it is the beginning of a new era but often you know 10 years on 9 years of not being able to launch actionless into space is kind of back way we but it's yeah it's it's a good time for a human exploration well space exploration of course is a source of enormous national pride we saw president president trump there and now especially for the u.s. is it a major triumph for the country. well you know i think it's perfectly fair for them to look at that way look at that event yesterday for us of course space is inherently an international cooperation we have $22.00 member states the european space agency we collaborate with the u.s.
10:14 am
with japan with canada with russia and the international space station the destination is the result of a joint effort over many a couple of decades in many nations so i think you know the nationalist nationalist aspect is possibly for internal consumption but we see this is something where we are inherently part of it and that space is at its most inspirational and its most inclusive when it looks across the entire world and is not used let's say to divide people and we live in difficult times i would like to use the phrase that space may be a vacuum but it doesn't occur in a vacuum and we have to think about the political dimensions in the modern world as well but if we focus on where we're going now with space exploration for us it's always about the international collaboration. and just quickly what about iran mosque the founder of space x. what does this launch mean for him. well clearly i mean you heard him there on that
10:15 am
piece it's an emotional moment for him. for let's remember also this is a very large company space x. started 18 years ago the president going shotwell has run this company extremely well over the years they've developed some fantastic technologies with government money and of course a lot of it coming in tom miller who's tom miller who's in charge of. the propulsion systems has done fantastic work on some of the engines so i think you know i could. go beyond. that. we're all about the stories that matter to. us. whatever it takes. to running. now.
