highway about 20 minutes ago. we were just talking on getting ready for this live shot we heard a truck honking continuously honking and i looked. down from a bridge and over a bridge of the highway and a tanker truck this one there exactly. drove with tremendous speech on this left lane here to watch the crowd did not make any attempt to stop or to slow down to the country i think actually spent up. furthermore as a close he came to the crowd. there were thousands of people here on the highway on both sides of the highway about. where the truck was of course also and there was no chance for those people to adequately react. and get out the way i'm sure that many many many managed to do this but i'm also sure that many many didn't manage to
1:16 am
do that and right after. the truth is that we both started running macs park and my cameraman. to it's the scene and what we encountered coming towards us were people absolutely desolate absolutely wiped out with breakdowns and in tears. truly shocked and traumatized. and this is where we are right now and now the police you see here cordoning this all of. i would say 5 to 7 minutes past the incident in force and what happened then is that the protesters here let's not forget why they were here they're protesting systemic racism in the in this country in this city and with the police force police brutality they paddled the cars driving india with anything they could grab their posters and water bottles the police reacted not just by driving by securing these areas we
1:17 am
have seen at least one car and policemen taking out his lowing his windows his windshield and spraying people trying to spray people with mazer or tear gas on his way to what you now see there in the bag quite a scene and not the least tragic this changed the game here not just for today but for days to come certainly steffen no doubt about that it seemed like yesterday when we were talking to you that in minneapolis that the police and national guard had crossed some sort of boundary and then they had brought the situation somewhat under control can you talk about what the atmosphere was lock and you talk about the crowds what was the energy what was the mood of this crowd moving along on mass you say maybe 10000 maybe 20000 people can you talk about how tightly in the past and what was the atmosphere like. you know.
1:18 am
it is a sunday here it's funny it's warm people came out to peacefully protest march the day started with small protests relatively small protests at the capital. a few maybe 2 or 3000 people gathered their speeches chants i can't breathe is that more like a family and parents want their children people from all walks of life diverse african-americans asian americans latinos. people everybody and this module is a big event and was was also advertised as a big event the take a knee event so the idea originally idea and everybody was in good spirit i can tell you that was to march and then taken me. for george floyd and while they never got to do that now. so the there was no

violent protest today it's we're still having i think we're now i want to hour and a half or something away from the curfew in effect at 8 pm local have a curfew starts again until 6 am tomorrow local time. so people we're not in danger to get harassed or into trouble with police anyway and police is really a fantastic job to really stay behind and monitor all this but not to interfere in any aggressive 4 or any other way which could tantalize any party involved. and so there's really no no reason or preset to have. this happen here this has nothing to do with the protest and this has nothing to do with police in the hall they were not there or there but there was no police here because they stayed in the background. and now this is of course changed but now
1:20 am
the protest is over. anyway stefan we talked before about the lack of what we can say that what we can't see there ambulances is it possible and i know it's very hard to judge that you are a long way down the road is it possible that there was no one seriously injured as we say police coming down the road now. if that is the case i do galat least they correct that and i would call this a miracle because from my vantage point from my view there was there was almost no way that everybody escaped this on haunt. if that's the case then that's great that's wonderful and i gladly stay corrected i could be absolutely wrong it from my vantage point when it actually happened it everybody thought. people will not survive this completely and and the people who rushed against us were in shock and said oh he ran into people the truck the semi went into people.
1:21 am
so i and again you're absolutely right as an assumption i have not seen or heard any numbers death toll casualties injured. so that's. that's an assumption still of course not what. everything now here is. ok all right we're going to ok we're going. right you don't have to. i'm going ok. so anyway here we go again and that's perfectly fine with moving by orders of minneapolis police going backwards time to go and leave the bridge and i would assume that they are so insistent because they want to do their job here and maybe let him be lenses in so you know there's any ambulances any casualties do we know anything. about that about the truck.
1:22 am
so you a friend of the driver and he's going and he's in his way keep what we can walk and ok we could go. through that again yeah walk and talk a lot of that so you have friend of the driver and he is injured but he's transported to a hospital. ok is there any of the casualties protesters who are you on the street. sir. oh. i'm happy oh that's fine. ok well. we have a quick not to carry 3rd story. ok we're done with them ok all right thank you. turn the camera around and show what's going on and please thank you all we are you guys still with me we're still with you stefan so if it's possible to keep walking and talking they go to so long as they are comfortable yeah we'll keep walking and
1:23 am
talking not till we until we have to actually really move off this. this meridian here stefano you know i'm going to do most of my security in talking about the atmosphere of the place you have just arrived on the same when we joined you lot at the top of the f. very well. yes i'm going to tell you about the atmosphere right now here because it's getting very tense. let me get out of here. and i will take the camera for a 2nd. because the. police keeping us off the highway and they're not really. course and nice about it. and there's a lot of yelling and posturing involved and that's all. ok. you see max you follow me right. and.
1:24 am
steph and while you're while you're booking i just want to tell your conversation with the policeman well seattle to tell you whether they were casualties or not. no he did not tell me if there were any casualties he did tell me though that they apprehended the driver that the driver was in his words rescue you can film what's going on here max if you can. that the driver was after handed in his words rescued out of a lot of the truck and brought to a medical facility. and. gentlemen thank you i think you. know we're going to turn around a little bit they go they go so new perimeter safety security perimeter established by the police right now as you see in full force. the ramp we're walking now which was the escape route for many many many protesters who were on the highway here
1:25 am
there's a. police squad coming again to us and i think that is all in the presumption by law enforcement that people are now so upset. that this is not going to and in any peaceful way here despite that major event stephanus i tell you something because you know as well 3 chris witnessed yes yes this was our state troopers or right police in this with here right police here on but those are state troopers. gentleman can we go through there. very quickly go through. there. all this way you go. on that. stephanie if you can still or. stephanie you can still have a i know there's a lot of always around just once again to try and break have let me exactly get
1:26 am
sane and what exactly you've been in the midst of all in the past half hour and even though i would have. if i would if you could do me a favor and. curt. and repeat your question please very loudly i can't hear your question i'm just looking for one and one also want to bring we have now been seen here in the last 40 plus violent movie oh ok. so you know bodies are still with me but if you're still with me here. ok it's a little well the streets opening up let's just really how do you spend 40 minutes now since a truck plowed into a crowd with stephens a month is on a highway in minneapolis stephanie if you can hear me now if you can recap what the situation is what you see what you find in the middle of. ok so i'm in the middle
1:27 am
of i'm standing at a highway random in the middle of i'm actually caught between protesters and riot police state troopers down there sheriff's department they're also. what happened about 40 minutes ago it's down this way a mask. this tank truck rick. spent along the highway this way. the highway was blocked over there where you see the blinking lights the police now in massive numbers of protesters occupied the highway this truck came running to it's the protesters speeding up honking his horn continuously and running into the crowd now when i say running into the crowd my vantage point and that of my camera man was actually what you don't see right now it was behind my cameraman so this way on a bridge to us it was. impossible to imagine that there were no cause a casualty so that there are no cars injured possibly that. i cannot verify
1:28 am
this as of now i have no numbers and i formation i asked police if they know anything the only information we have so far and we have pictures of the truck is down there parked on the highway the driver apparently had to be rescued according to police out of the truck. and had to be brought to a medical facility i don't know of the name of the medical facility even i asked the officer expresses her this if there were any casualties he could report on or no off in terms of protesters he didn't answer the question and interesting enough as soon. as soon as the sheriff the publicly state troopers the life that the metropolitan police men changed his tone towards us immediately very unfriendly very robust and confronted
1:29 am
. and more or less yank 7 us off the of the highway where we were 1st reporting so and that brings us to here to this ramp protesters here i can tell you those people are mixed completely. show this. because people are frustrated so you went to the brink and traumatized. and they have. gone through a lot the last 3 get anyway and now this this is definitely left a mark on them we when we were running basically running from momentous point to what the highway down this ramp here and to what's the scene what we saw an accident scene or a scene off mass casualty at the time we were greeted by a rush of protesters massive to what's most of them breaking down crying cowering on the floor shaking and really rattled of course they must have there must be
1:30 am
people who have seen or at least felt they have seen horrible things or have felt absolutely unprotected and and in a situation absolutely out of control and i think what's happening now is that all the protests are still remain here and who not who didn't leave the protest entirely will now go back through the through the. to the starting point of the protest which is the u.s. bank stadium. police has manned up significantly here. and interestingly enough i really cannot tell if there are any ambulances still i have not seen an ambulance as i see a lot of and you can see this through here max is showing you this right there straight ahead about if he's going to pan to his to his right you see there's
1:31 am
a massive police presence now here with the battens and in riot gear and. they're not.
