shutdown of russians hospitality industry. shift spurious design bought 10 beside a concert by barry gold in a desperate plea for. a math and held welcome we begin in the u.s. city of minneapolis where a not time curfew has just come into force following days of unrest of the death of a black man in police custody earlier there was turmoil as a truck appeared to plow into a crowd of protesters they would feel is a mass casualties and onlookers reacted with anger police told the driver of the tanker was apprehended for his and safety it's not clear whether he deliberately drove into the crowd and eyewitness said a woman was the only person injured. more in that
3:02 am
situation now in minneapolis we live with stephanie. stiffen take us back to 2 hours ago and tell us what you saw. horrible scene 1st to say what actually hurts and that was a ongoing honking of the horrendous truck honk his horn and didn't let up on this then we realize that this truck is not slowing down and it seemed to us at least that he was actually literally speeding up the closer he came to the crowd which worse gathered right there behind me where you now see a massive. state trooper. police. and maybe also national guard and the truck rammed into the. we could see that we rushed to the scene right away we were clearly under the impression i was on of the impression that there is no way that
3:03 am
this is not resulting in a mash mass casualty event but we talked to a eyewitness. who was right there at the scene and he said only one person as you already pointed god one female voice injured transported by the protesters themselves and there were 10000 people at least on this highway stretch there to a hospital and minutes later the police rushed in with. cars. over the last 2 hours this was build up of course here in tremendous force and that is because there is a curfew in place and in effect right now however police rushed in when the truck had hit the. crowds we were told in a witness in the witness and now i think now we should switch here you see there in the back. and there comes the 1st tear gas rounds.
3:04 am
to disperse the crowd. at this point so let me quickly finish. yeah go ahead go ahead stephanie ivey a shelter if you get to 60 so i say now. as i said 15 minutes ago we all everybody who has a cell phone a mobile phone gets an emergency alert system warning that the. curfew is in the fake now that everybody has to disperse to go home or take safe shelter somewhere else. and now you see police moving to enforce this curfew to disperse the not massive crowd of protesters there will be shortly. they will arrive where we are so we're going to get move into a little bit as we had last night experienced the anger and and grass
3:05 am
off the one of the other police officer and we may not want to go through this again however so what you see is you know police moving in trying to disperse anybody who is in their eyes not. following the curfew orders and disperse and we'll move a little bit. whenever you hear this pop this is this is the. tear gas and we're going to take a little bit culverts ok i think. we're going to take a little bit cover behind our car you're standing next to my room and there goes a water bottle in response to the ground so there you go you see this they're firing actually on us. and we're going to hide behind the cob is a safe this is good and now it. just anywhere you see right in front of your scene it seems like from the from the moment the truck plowed into the crowd this
3:06 am
morning and you were on that saying that you have been caught in the middle i don't want to talk about you being in the middle of the story but i want to talk about the tension between protesters and police placing it right now that there is no if i s'posed potties feel on the fire it would seem what you call the police feel on the fire and the protesters no no no no no no no no no no no that's not that's not the police on the song story and don't take this the wrong way i'm not going to disrespect you and your impression here about the police enforcement or curfew when they know there was one water bottle. brought against them and that was it but they're going with. what have you against anybody who was there on the street or not and as i said taking cover behind our car with some of the colleagues. that's a stun grenade sounds bad is not that really this is only this is only for psychological effect. but we are also
3:07 am
a media this is not that we are spared just because we have a press accreditation and wear a jacket with a press ticker. so. it's not the situation that you've painted is where we are here that when you wear that press accreditation do you feel like you a spade from the stun grenades and all the last tactics that the police use. do you feel safe at the moment we might have lost. i'll try one more time. and then say what we might say is trying very establish contact with stephens he was on the streets of minneapolis in the main topic i had was an interview that we did. with a whip well. you know. we were doing a peaceful protest on the. go and i. 50 miles an hour trying to run us all to caucasian me alone we're going to hit a girl stop because all of our people jumped on it trying to rip them out trying to
3:08 am
get out he kept going out yes so i reversed it almost hit somebody there are people jumped on him anyways so he got to start leaking over there so we gotta push all the people everybody's friends are running the police came down so we spoke over here i said i came up handsome slow. people up the breach i go to leave my people they got squad car swimming down. in mason now and not just coming over but mason so i think what is this what is this you trying to go to straight he said oh miscommunication and went back live in minneapolis stephens he months if you can hear me we've just heard from the eyewitness that you interviewed at the top of the last hour in the very minutes after the truck plowed into a crowd of protesters on the highway here in minneapolis. can you take us back on to the say now and just tell me what's the situation with just hit the curfew where
3:09 am
minutes into the curfew what is happening there now there were press guys yeah it's all right now we're going to try to convince police were press guy from to see. all press to ok so i'm trying to and as you see you know and. there you go see there is a lot of moderates we have permission to be out here we have permission to be out here stop. we have prayer ok our vehicles are back there we got to go up to your vehicles we serve sure your governor the governor of minute minnesota. how do you get over the lovato when we get the permission from yourself spirit to be here. so we're going to go in our car we're going to go in the car move ok. i want to
3:10 am
stop it we're stopping getting in our car we move again thank you tonight where we choose not to take you live. yeah that's ames perfectly reasonable stuff and we're going to stay with you if you can as you get into the coming ok. that's fine. just stick with us. if you just joined the protest we're on the streets live with stefan simmons out there deadly correspondent in minneapolis with. 70 minutes almost not a minute ago now perhaps a truck plowed into a crowd of protesters protesting the death of george floyd. stephens a month is now minutes past the curfew and being told to move on by police on the same stefan can you still hear me. one second i'm grabbing my mike as i drive away here you see my camera man is
3:11 am
filming the police to decide by the way our car is also marked as press vehicle we are wearing that's where we identify ourselves as press about this is in fair we all good that we can report and we should be reporting what what we're seeing what we have been in when there is a curfew enforcement we are exempt by law. from this curfew so it's not for us that is maybe understood as a privilege but i mean we couldn't do couldn't be able to do our job if. we couldn't report. so now you see in front of me here there will be on the other side of this bridge. police running up the ramp pushing. pushing protesters back stephanie let me think he's someone there are a nice things with the police officer can you tell us what was his plan where did
3:12 am
he want you to go at this stage what was the advice other than you're not welcome here. well the message is sirleaf i don't care what the rules are what the law says what the company or is this a period after all. you can do or cannot do he wants out of his perimeter his. responsibility is to move everybody out of his security zone and that's what he's doing it's very shortsighted of course from our perspective but that's how they operate you know this is and this is what they're trying to do make no mistake it's not that this is one rogue police officer who doesn't understand the rules they all understand the rule they just don't care and they don't care because they're told by their superiors direct superiors not to care and the press doesn't have a really an exception to report and do their our job because just because the governor says so in in a coat or because it is the law. so we moved our car for that reason and as you see
3:13 am
now there's still a bunch of stragglers or. very small crowd of. protesters there and press were still here and stephan example i'm saying i asked the crowd is right there is you see under the car on the move again what we might do is keep moving and allow you to keep moving we thank you again for your reporting on the streets there and max behind the camera keeping all calm in the situation small think there and we will come back to you live as the situation no doubt progresses through the evening many thanks again all right thank you very much. now to news miking headlines in other parts of the world. we're not going. to where we get. and
