they're churning from birth to death starts june 18th b.t.w. . this is you have a unique use live from berlin and donald trump demanding a tougher crackdown as on the rest grips the united states and sometimes violent protest over the killing of george floyd as a 7th day the u.s. president telling state leaders they need to our breasts and jail more people and with the coronavirus crisis forcing millions of young people to stay at home children tell us what they miss about life before the pandemic.
8:01 pm
going to school. as the world marks international children's day we will find out how young people are adjusting to life and it changed the world. i'm sara kelly well come to the program u.s. president donald trump is slamming state leaders as the country is gripped by some of the heaviest on rest and half a century in a conference call with governors trump reportedly called them quote weak for not taking a tougher line against people protesting the death of george floyd the unarmed african-american man who died last week in minneapolis in police custody his death setting off days of mass pro. test in scores of cities across the u.s.
8:02 pm
many of those demonstrations have turned violent after nightfall and resulted in several deaths across the country. america is burning for 6 night in a row anger flooded streets across the deeply divided country. this scale of civil unrest has not been seen here in decades. in georgia floyd's home state protesters marched against systemic racism and police brutality. all these voices are here because the same thing it's happening over and over again it's the new lynching you know and it's new coded language in a way that our president represents himself in and has a following of k.k.k. members you know all this stuff but people across the country a wave of anger has been leashed. i think we're at a tipping point to be honest with you i think. i think this is what happens when
8:03 pm
you have. hundreds of years of oppression. hundreds of years of peaceful protests seemingly accomplish nothing we have been disparate is my entire life so like i'm used to the trayvon martin when you sit on my arteries so i'm just tired of it i'm tired of the narrative i'm tired of the hash tag right here there were are still scenes of unity as officers showed their solidarity with the protesters as well so i am sure going to have a right. to help this is a target. but in washington tensions spike outside the white house as the president blamed left extremists and infiltrators for the on breast. radical left criminals and others. all throughout our country and throughout the world.
8:04 pm
will not be allowed to set communities ablaze we won't let it happen it harms those who have the least. but some experts say there is also evidence of far right extremists stoking the violence the president's response has drawn criticism from both sides of the political aisle with some calling for a measured response to the crisis. and we have dramatic scenes right now at a makeshift memorial at the site where george floyd was was taken by police our very own stefan zimmerman's is standing by for stefan we have been seeing the family speaking his brother in fact speaking right now the message very clear the family is calling for peace. yeah pointed out we're here at the intersection where actually the upper hand you know
8:05 pm
the arrest of mr floyd happened and brother of with the florida's right over there across the intersection speaking right now and i would say if you still speak and i can't make this out but i assume so let's just listen in for a little bit. so. you know if. you start a problem for. anybody with a gun. i don't. know i don't know i don't know. he would not want to be donors. and i'm not saying to people here who adams don't relax.
8:06 pm
now like. government costs right he's on the left. just right now have not already. done the right he's not only just on the right he's on the low this is on the right he's going to just sort of like he's on the low just. as i want to set up all the little. pieces on the well. right that's what i thought and i think he's going to have. done no. i don't know right. before a family. thank you thank you for the love thank you for the flowers thank you for
8:07 pm
the memorials thank you now before i go. sorry i just want to hurt us again. joe. says there's no slope. lopez says the. saddest. thing. i think. 1. 1. 1. 1. 1. 1. 1. 1 down here let us understand up. coming.
8:08 pm
down. from the found. comfort chart that for jack cafferty our. for our. brothers who will thank you thank you for job. thank you for blessing us what your presence what your strength but your courage make yourself vulnerable thank you thank you no one of our number forgiven coming up to this thing. and his knees but . and you have been watching there the brother of george floyd to speaking to crowds there at this makeshift memorial to his brother george floyd encouraging the crowd to say his name saying that one is down 3 more to go referring to those 3 officers who have not been charged yet in the death of his brother we know one officer charged after he kneeled on george floyd's neck for nearly 8 minutes
8:09 pm
the videotape is there stuff on zeman standing by for us stuff on just just describe this highly emotional scene that we are seeing there today. it's quite a sight before mr ford brother of george floyd showed up here people were conducting a prayer service and followed the call to take a knee even shortly before we came to you with this before we had the chance the viewers and all of us the chance to listen to the brother of george floyd and what he said. again people were asked to take a knee and even the press was forced politely and and. here and there with a little bit of a force to take in the so and i have never seen anything like it that camera and women reporters everybody really went down on the knee out of the show and this is
8:10 pm
why is this important because the. movement now because this is turning into a movement that's not just the protest anymore at least that's what people tell us who we talking to the protesters the african-american community influencers that this is a movement now. it is it is. it is pertinent for those people here to create situations or environments like this because curfew time every day in the last 3 days. this is all going to be not as happy and. family. as it seems. anymore because and i'm sorry we're getting a little bit screwy steer by the people who are excited. because then it is then you will see here at the intersection barricades going up out of fear that the police will enforce the curfew with your gas and rubber bullets. and stefan and yet
8:11 pm
the message that we have very clearly heard from the family they said the road to justice is long we also heard them chanting peace on the left justice on the right do you think i mean after these very clear statements that we have heard now from george floyd's brother do you think that that might be received by some of the protesters especially after nightfall i think. all i think it is received by the majority of the true protesters of of the crowd of the of the majority of the american are for american population and community here who is actually the core protester here who is not the looter who is not the arsonist. of course even those people the arsonist the looters the. those community members
8:12 pm
who are more. sorry sorry we're in the middle of us thank you so much people who are more prone to become a little bit more violent or a lot more violent even they say look this is all so that those right people here were peaceful and who don't condone violence spot the seed for want of this so that they can actually protest the way they do here but you have to write the message she is actually. peace for those people here can only come from now on with justice and justice means for them for example for starters the arrest of those 3 other policemen who are still on. or charged with anything compare and contrast this message that we have heard now from the family with the message that we are hearing from the very top in the united states from the u.s. president what is the state of leadership right now when it comes to healing these wounds healing these racial divides and achieving that justice for george floyd and
8:13 pm
his death in police custody. the gap in between leadership vision and what you put out into the public space what is communicated to. the people you actually want to the people you actually want to reach and who need to hear this couldn't be more stark couldn't be more no pun intended black and white is the president calling the government's on a conference call with the governors and telling them they are weak and they have to beef up security even more so and arrest or tear gas more people and here you have now and i'm not belittling still that in this entire country here and in minneapolis a lot of protests are still very very violent. but still you have hear the message now and the vision and the leadership saying like peace is actually the ultimate goal here with the vision of justice and that is key yes people here do not
8:14 pm
have the feeling or the confidence that actually justice is sorry so ok or not. that justice is actually served here and only if this is happening only then if they feel they get a just an equal treatment throughout society not just by the police not just here but in america this is going to be ending up peaceful only then the calls for justice so strong george phillips blather brother speaking just moments ago at that makeshift memorial there in minneapolis minnesota stefan's events thank you. you're watching news and just a quick check now of some football news before we have to go in spain clubs are training ahead of the restart of the nation's football season which is set for june 11th madrid one of
