and earlier i spoke with historian rebecca brochmann a specialist in race ethnicity and gender in the united states i asked her to compare the situation in the us right now with that of other liberal democracies for example like germany where she is based in terms of systemic racism. well most important thing is to remember that racism doesn't stop at national borders so racism is not an individual character it is a political system we're talking about discrimination on the labor market on the housing market in education in the justice system so those are things that are also part of racism in germany however there are quantitative and qualitative differences. if you look at the police violence in the united states that's very much entrenched in the history of the slave patrols for example that is different in germany however germany is very adept at forgetting about its colonial history me it wasn't a major player in the transatlantic slave trade but germany also invested through
