a bloody war busy to extinguish the evil of slavery within what a life. in minneapolis the city where george floyd was killed by police almost 3 weeks ago protesters assembled in chanted his name. they have not forgotten the man who's killing sparked this reckoning in the u.s. and the cross the world. and you said a little more light on this for joined by the reporter. tragically another black man shot dead by police you know in the united states what happened well using the videos to judge by it appears that police stopped mr brooks and attempted to administer a field sobriety test basically check his blood alcohol content and at some point it appears in the video that a scuffle ensued and that mr brooks was able to gain a hold of a taser one of the stun guns that the the police use now in the video it seems that

we can see him run away and it does appear that he turned at some point in discharge the taser fired the son got one of the police officers which. result in the police action where he was then killed afterwards now to put this in a little bit of a larger context police the use of force the united states is determined by what's called the graham case which was a supreme court case in the early eighty's which basically said that if a police officer felt threatened the moment before he engaged in some type of violent action then that police action could be justified it's been used in the last several years to justify them shootings like we've seen here and i think you know if we were living under 6 months ago or even 6 weeks ago we probably would not have heard about this case because the defense attorneys who would most likely represent a police officer could point to the grand decision and say look he felt threatened a weapon appears to have been discharged even though it was a non-lethal weapon so the use of force would bend in that interpretation be justified but we're not living in those times we're living in the times post killing of george floyd where the united states is really focused on the question
4:05 pm
not whether of what is legal but rather what is actually morally responsible and that's you know something that the the the attorneys representing the family of mr brooks have said they basically said look he used a non-lethal weapon yes he did use a weapon but it was non-lethal so killing him using a lethal response isn't justified based on how they're arguing with the policeman involved was fired the police chief resigned just think there will be a no you don't have a crystal ball that more protests and possibly violence in the quick reaction well you know anything is possible and as you said i mean local authorities took a very very quick action to kind and at that in the bud in this case but you know the united states is more racially divided than at any point than i have ever seen in the course of my life i mean to call it a powder keg i don't think would be going too far and you know we have seen some of these protests become less violent or moving forward they're becoming more politically focused but the federal government has really struggled with a cohesive response and you know

a lot of that actually kind of has to be laid at the door of president donald trump he has not really been able to find a good way to unite the american people which is the the job of the president traditionally and so i mean anything can happen ok doozer and children and what has happened in georgia thanks. and solidarity with the blackflies matter movement in the u.s. people in cities across germany are taking part in demonstrations against racism and social injustice here in berlin protesters formed a human chain around the city and tried to keep a distance of 3 meters apart by observing coronavirus restrictions on trade unions and religious groups also took part they were all there to observe the memory of george ford. you know your correspondent and then you had charles was at the protest at the brandenburg gate and organizers told her why they've linked together . the entire bob these is the general web indivisibility and that's why the organizers of today's oxidize want to show here in bali no sort of cross the
