richard brooks sparked a new wave of unrest in the city with protesters setting fire to the wendy's restaurant where he was killed and blocking a highway. the city's police chief resigned and atlanta's mayor called for a change. i firmly believe that there is a clear distinction between what you can do and what you should do i do not believe that this was a justified use of deadly force. demonstrations are continuing across the u.s. holding black lives matter signs and chanting no justice no peace protesters on saturday gathered in washington d.c. and march through the streets of new york city. they even took to the water protesting against president donald trump as he gave a graduation speech at the west point military academy.

it was this school that gave us the men and women. who fought and won a bloody busy war to extinguish the whole of slavery busy within one lifetime of our founding. in minneapolis the city where george floyd was killed by police almost 3 weeks ago protesters assembled in chanted his name. they have not forgotten the man whose killing sparked this reckoning in the u.s. and the cross the world. tragically another black man shot dead by police you know in the united states what happened well using the videos to judge by it appears that police stopped mr brooks and attempted to administer a field sobriety test basically check his blood alcohol content and at some point it appears in the video that a scuffle ensued and that mr brooks was able to gain a hold of a taser one of the stun guns that the the police use now in the video it seems that
5:04 pm
we can see him run away and it does appear that he turned at some point in discharge the taser fired the son got one of the police officers which then results in the police action where he was then killed afterwards now to put this in a little bit of a larger context police the use of force the united states is determined by what's called the graham case which was a supreme court case in the early eighty's which basically said that if a police officer felt threatened the moment before he engaged in some type of violent action then that police action could be justified it's been used in the last several years to justify them shootings like we've seen here and i think you know if we were living just 6 months ago or even 6 weeks ago we probably would not have heard about this case because the defense attorneys who would most likely represent this police officer could point to the graham decision and say look he felt threatened a weapon appears to have been discharged even though it was a non-lethal weapon so the use of force would bend in that interpretation be justified but we're not living in those times we're living in the times post
5:05 pm
killing of george floyd where the united states is really focused on the question not whether of what is legal but rather what is actually morally responsible and that's you know something that the the the attorneys representing the family of mr brooks have said they basically said look he used a non-lethal weapon yes he did use a weapon but it was non-lethal so killing him using a lethal response isn't justified based on how they're arguing with the policeman involved was fired the police chief resigned do you think there will be a no you don't have a crystal ball that more protests and possibly violence even the quick reaction well you know anything. is possible and as you said i mean local authorities took a very very quick action to kind in the in the bud in this case but you know the united states is more racially divided than at any point then i have ever seen in the course of my life i mean to call it a powder keg i don't think would be going too far and you know we have seen some of these protests becoming less violent or moving forward they're becoming more politically focused but the federal government has really struggled with
5:06 pm
a cohesive response and you know a lot of that actually has to be laid at the door of president donald trump he has not really been able to find a good way to unite the american people which is the the job of the president traditionally and so i mean anything can happen to user and children with insight on what is happening a lot of georgia thanks in solidarity with the black lives matter movement in the united states people in cities across germany are taking part in demonstrations against racism and social injustice here in berlin protesters formed a human chain around the city trying to keep a distance of 3 meters apart observing coronavirus restrictions huge trade unions and religious groups also took our time they were all there to observe the memory of george floyd. some of the demonstrators at berlin's landmark brandenburg gate told us why they were taking part. deficiency like this protest is very important even though i haven't personally witnessed what is happening in the us and

elsewhere i do hear about it and i am shocked the same goes for some cities around here was an official of the tech refugees it's unbearable for the few bad in this hemisphere to pardon me i am not exaggerating divisive the scene you know it's just . not human being sometimes evil for one just like you must be separated for a little sleep. in you know over there for me courtesy to rise it's an important topic i'm in favor of this movement and this protest has been very well organized. i'm just for one bill problems we're discussing here and doing more than an agent changes over the superstore. let's take a look now at some of the other stories making news around the world. fans of bullfighting in mass a doorstop to the streets of spain to demand support for a sector hard hit by the coronavirus the events have been canceled for months spain
