this police killing another black man is dead at the hands of american police what exactly happened this time well as we can see in the report there this is a slightly different situation than the killing of george floyd but that doesn't mean it's necessarily a less tragic one basically as you can see there in the video mr brooks was stopped they tried to carry out some type of field sobriety tests figure out what his blood alcohol level was and then somehow a scuffle ensued as part of the scuffle you can see in the video it appears that mr brooks somehow managed to get a hold of one of the officers tasers he ran away and then it does appear he turned around and fired off some shots at the pursuing police officers who then engaged in that deadly police accident axin which i'm led to mix was mr brooks passing away and being killed actually now put we need to put this in a larger context you really have to look at how police officers in the united states are allowed to use force it's kind of determined by a supreme court case called the graham case which basically said that if police

officers feel they are threatened if they think in the moment before they engage in violence that they could be attacked or somehow lose their own lives then often the use of violence on their part is justified right and it could be easily said in this case that the defense attorneys would most likely use a graham style defense say look this man mr brooks actually fired on our clients so they were justified in order to use that violence however you also heard from the lawyer from the family in that piece and he basically said yes he didn't debate the fact that mr brooks fired at the police officers however he said he used a non-lethal weapon so his argument was saying that the police officers weren't justified in using lethal force against somebody who wasn't armed with a lethal weapon which would actually be capable of killing them but at the end of the day it really boils down to when do you think police are allowed to use force in the united states i mean. the mayor of atlanta who said the clear distinction between what you can do and what you. should do in this situation and she was

arguing that the police were not justified in using lethal force against mr brooks so we're seeing protests again in atlanta and in many places but we have to ask every time how likely is it that these protests are going to bring out changes in the way policing is carried out the u.s. that really remains to be seen we have seen some action on the national level from the national government but it does seem at this point that a lot of those police reforms that some of the democratic parties were suggesting are stalled in congress on the local front we have seen more changes more city authorities are indicating that they will really address how they deal with policing their own communities but i think if you want to take the bird's eye perspective of this you have to look at the overall support numbers united states survey after survey has indicated that support for social justice measures and support for black lives matters in the united states states is really increasing dramatically some people are even arguing that the numbers indicate that the support for black lives matters as increased more in the last 2 weeks than it has
